10 Things a Photomanip Newbie Should KnowHi all,10 Things a Photomanip Newbie Should Know3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I wanted to talk for a moment to our newbie photomanipulators or even older photomanipulators who are out of the fray. How are you? Welcome to the inner circle.
Here are some things that you (and all photomanipulators) need to know about dA and the photomanipulation community.
1. Stay in touch with the Photomanipulation CV (currently me, Aeirmid).
Watch me. No, that's not an ill-formed plea for pageviews, favorites, or watchers. Actually, I rarely even post art anymore. I am the Community Volunteer (CV) for photomanipulation, which means I regularly run contests, feature art, share news, post Daily Deviations (DDs), and do other things to support the community. It is in your best interest to watch my journal because I post every photomanipulation-related update there. This information is important to you so you can learn about upcoming events, changes in rules, new groups, and other news.

Contest is over! Thank you everyone! :)So, the contest is over and last night I got a handful of last entries that managed to hit the "30 entries" mark - which means all three price packs are unlocked (although I'd have given them out anyway, to be honest )Contest is over! Thank you everyone! :)4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm really impressed with the quality of your entries, naturally I had my favs along the way but now that all is said and done these favs have piled up and I have no clue how to pick only three out of all of them. I'll probably have a look at all of them again with a few friends and then announce the winning images tonight or tomorrow, so that I can give out the prices before I'm off to archery week in Hungary.
Thank you again everyone who has entered! In my opinion the contest was a great success and I'll probably host another one in summer - I hope you had as much fun painting and drawing and manipulating as I did receiving every single artwork

Mythology Contest - 3 WEEKS LEFT!EDIT: Just to remind you, this contest is NOT hosted by Realm-of-Fantasy - the group just allowed me to promote it in their blog. It is hosted by syccas-stock so for questions, comments and entry-notes please head over to :iconsyccas-stock:Mythology Contest - 3 WEEKS LEFT!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
The crowds have voted and the topic shall be:
But of course it’s not that easy. The twist is to find inspiration in the mythology of your native country or the country you live in now!
Even if you don’t find a personal connection I’d like you to see this as part of the challenge – find inspiration in what your country’s history has in store. And don't give me the "we have no mythology"-excuse, every country has mythology, legends, fairytales I'm sure you find lots of interesting stories if you do a little bit of research.
Now, that being said: If you know your family’s roots (I’m looking at you, US-folks) and would rather
3 Photomanipulators you really should be watchingHi everyone,3 Photomanipulators you really should be watching2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I have an Under 100 feature and a Composition feature coming up shortly, but I wanted to focus on really recognizing some people who have tremendous skills but who you may not yet watch. They deserve to be recognized as some of the best photomanipulators in our community because of the hard work they put into their gorgeous creations. Please take a moment to watch them if you don't already, and make sure you provide some nice comments on their work.
Jade / Aeirmid
Kim is probably the most humble person I've met while on deviantART, yet she is incredibly talented. Her work has evolved to focus on the dark side of fantasy, where creativity meets our darkest nightmares. You can't look away! A walk through one of her photomanipulations will leave you caught up on the scene, wondering what is coming next. With excellent use of dark, muted tones and spellbinding stock choices, Kim's gallery is definitely worth a look!

"Show Me" is a new photomanipulation series that will feature artists chosen by the community as well as their choosers! If you want to participate, please keep an eye on the polls in CRPhotomanipulation (which, by the way, is now open for submissions!) and/or on Aeirmid's page for weekly opportunities to expose other artists.

New Masters AcademyHeya folks!New Masters Academy2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you would like some awesome and affordable online art education, I highly recommend the recently started New Master Academy. I've been trying it out for a few months now, and while the quality varies a bit from lesson to lesson, overall it is an amazing value. I've spent hundreds on art DVD's in past. Generally, you can expect a 2 hour demonstration video from a professional artist to cost $30-$100. Compare that to the $19 monthly subscription for an ever growing list of video demonstrations and lectures. You really can't beat that.
The videos from Steve Huston alone make this a good value IMO.
Hopefully these guys are successful, so that we see more content like this in the future.

Haunted - contest #3This contest has ended. The winners announement can be found here.Haunted - contest #34 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
From Shakespeare, through Stocker, Poe, Lovecraft, Murnau, Wiene, Tolkien... et ceatera, et ceatera... You may find this motif in many great pieces. It doesn't actually have to mean ghosts around - somnambulism presented in Cabinet of Doctor Caligari looks haunted despite the lack of spirits. On the other hand, there are few places scarier than the Dead Marshes described in the Lord of The Rings. Or the Eel Marsh estate from the recent movie. You surely have heard some local legends and tales, talking about unhappy brides and maidens wandering around a long time after their death or about a highwayman as from one of Loreena McKennitt's ballads.
In this contest, you're supposed to refer to one of such haunted pieces. It should be inspired by or refering to a legend, a novel, a movie, an existing (or not existing any more) place, even a song lyrics. Illustrating!

As a final close-out to our Project Educate: Feedback Week, we have one more special treat!
You've critiqued like crazy, and you received some great critiques as well! Awesome job!! But what good are critiques if you don't ever use them?
The first ever Feedback Frenzy Contest is nearly to a close. Fellow deviants, it's time to put those critiques into action!
Welcome to the Before & After Competition, hosted by
[Bullet; Pink][Bullet; Yellow][Bullet; Pink]What is it?[Bullet; Pink][Bullet; Yellow][Bullet; Pink]
The Before & After competition is a chance for you to take the critiques you received on an OLD work and put them into action in a NEW work. You are not redoing an old deviation, but rather using what you have learned in a brand new
Hidden in the forest - contest #7This contest has ended. The winners announement can be found here.Hidden in the forest - contest #73 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
When a tree falls deep in a forest, does it make any sound?
Aokigahara, Mirkwood, the Forbidden Forest, forests North of the Wall... they all contain mysteries that you'd really not like to uncover by yourself. Tell us a story - what have you found in your imagination? A labyrinth, witch's hut on hen's pud, a pond inhabitated by kelpie, a troll, or something much more terrifying and sinister?
You know what your task is. Please remember that this is GrimGloomTale, and not ThrowAnyPileOfTreesIn.
If you feel like doing a research on any of the places mentioned above, please note that Aokigahara forest is a real one and photos found can be really not safe for work.
We've got a special folder for the entries. It can be accessed here. If your submission gets accepted, I will edit

Appreciation and some advice for beginnersI have had this journal in mind for quite a long time, thinking I will find a time to write it down after I find a job (so that I can give 'advice' as a professional ). I've been less active in the past weeks since I was on a probation in a game company and I thought I would make it this time, unfortunately today I was told I have to go back to job hunting again. Anyway I'm not gonna wait any longer since some of my fellow deviants have been asking for advice for a long time.Appreciation and some advice for beginners2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Before I start – my apologies if some points in this journal are not clear because of language, I am not a native English speaker.
I'm not giving these advice as a professional or an elite artist (I hope I was!), just sharing my learning experience and some personal understanding of conceptual design and arts. Please ignore or correct me if I got things wrong.
Ok. Some related information about myself – I studied computing at university, in my final year I found myself really lack of interests in programming or

Murder at the Castle! Let the investigation begin!Last night, Cinderella was to host the greatest ball in all the land in honour of her Husband, Prince Charming. It had been months of hard work; every servant and helper furiously putting together the finest of touches to ensure everything was perfect. Invitations had been sent out to exclusive friends and acquaintances alike, reaching the farthest parts of fairyland. It was to be the event of the century.Murder at the Castle! Let the investigation begin!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
There was no denying, Cinderella had become highly stressed of late. Organising such a fabulous ball had taken its toll, especially when perfection was her objective. Her inner control freak had taken over and she no longer cared who she upset or angered as long as the ball was exact. Friends were no longer happy with her, she wouldn't keep promises- let alone attend unnecessary events such as Alice's weekly tea party. In fact, even her own husband, who all this was for, had not been in her mind.
The Ball was lavish; champagne fountains, golden swans, shimmery streamers, a stylish d&

Open Letter to Daz3DIntroductionOpen Letter to Daz3D3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I would like to start this off by first giving a little background about myself. I first started using Poser back in version 1, when it came out at the end of my time in College. One of the labs had it, and I was immediately hooked. I followed Poser through the years, including the hard times when it kept changing hands, and the future seemed uncertain. I understand this time scared many at Daz, as they were only a model creation company at the time. This is perfectly reasonable, and the response, to create Daz Studio, was logical and not a problem. In many ways, having this competition gave those who had Poser incentive to actually improve. I also would like to say that I support all 3D artists, that is something I feel very strongly about. I may not be the best artists out there, but I want to help everyone I can, even if it is just by giving them a place to showcase their work.
But now, things have changed. And I hav
