The reign of techniqueSo I'm gonna jump on this whole "technique & style" bandwagon. The reign of technique3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The newfound notion is that art is about "expressing ideas, emotions, fun, story - insert whatever", not technical skill. Lots of shitty artists with their crappy internet popularity and webcomics engines suddenly decided that they're awesome and epic ideas are so AWESOME, so EPIC, so LOVED by people, that giving them a decent technical framing is not important at all, and they can be lazy cuntfaces.
I have to say one thing about this: technical skill IS expression. The better your skill, the more instruments for you to convey whatever you want to convey with your art. Or nothing at all, if like me, you're mostly focusing on plain aesthetics.
Technical skill is the language of art. Not emotion - emotion doesn't draw. Your hand does. Your eye. The nerves and muscular tissue connecting the brain, eye and your hand. Art is about control over physiology - imagination comes second.
Let's see. Can a man with a vocabulary of 300 w
One last word on the Jeff thing. As I pointed out in my last journal, Sesseur (and in fact, nobody else) owns Jeff the Killer; he's a public-domain character. Sesseur merely created the image Jeff's creepypasta was based on, he didn't write the creepypasta itself. One last word on the Jeff thing.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
And you know what?
SESSEUR'S ACTUALLY OUTRIGHT STATED THAT HE DIDN'T WRITE THE PASTA ON THE COMMENTS ON HIS ORIGINAL "JEFF" VIDEO. SEVERAL TIMES. AND HE DOESN'T KNOW WHO WROTE IT, EITHER.
And another thing: just like Slenderman, Jeff doesn't really much of have a "canon" to speak of. All that's really there is the basic info about him, you can interpret the facts any way you want from there, within reason. CJ is no less valid than any headcanon you may come up with, because in the end whatever you imagine Jeff to be like post-origin story is just that; headcanon. Since no official sequel exists (and it's likely none ever will) nobody can really de
My Most ''Controversial'' Comics?I don't genuinely believe I'm all that controversial. Most of the "controversy" that surrounds my work stem from geek related things, like the color of Link's hair or the incredibly stupid Mac vs Pc debate. More often than not whenever I poke fun at something there's usually an outcry from people who think that somehow translates into THEM getting made fun of by me. Which just isn't the case.My Most ''Controversial'' Comics?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But anyway, the point is that I've produced a lot of comics over the years and I have gotten quite a bit of flak for a select few of them. I do not wish to rekindle any old arguments or defend my actions from almost a decade ago, but I am curious...
"Which of my comics do you think is the most controversial that I've ever done?"
This can be from any of my work, from SYAC, to brentalfloss, to Alex Ze Pirate, to whatever. I'm curious to know which comics or pieces of art that I've made do you think have gotten the most "heat" simply for existing. I don't care if you agree or disagree with the comic
Artist Goals and RacismIntrospectionArtist Goals and Racism2 months ago in Personal More Like This
I think it’s important for artists to be introspective. I think it should be the goal of any cartoonist or artist to take a step back, look at the world, and question and challenge all assumptions and normalities. So often little social stigmas and issues go completely unnoticed by a vast majority of the population, that I think it’s important to be reminded of where we are, how things work, and challenge the status-quo.
I believe that’s one of the most fundamentally important things about being an artist. It’s not the artistic skill level, it’s your ability to poke fun at stuff and make average people question their routines. While artistic skill is important, the average consumer doesn’t really care about artistic merits if the overall message is conveyed well. I’ve seen many stick-figure comics and supposedly “low-skill” artists resonate with people because of the message they’re sending.
RUINED FOREVAR!1Remember my satire "EVERYTHING IS DESTROYING CREEPYPASTA!", where I used the very worst and most inane (real) arguments/talking points from creepypasta "elitists" I could find (from DA, Tumblr, and elsewhere) and exaggerated them for humorous effect?RUINED FOREVAR!11 year ago in Personal More Like This
Well, there's a reason I made it. The creepypasta/Marble Hornets Slenderman fandom...well...has a lot of closed-minded people. These people I'm talking about are the sort who think their headcanon/way of interpreting certain pasta monsters is the high holy gospel, and that everyone who thinks/acts even slightly differently than them is a pestilence upon the fandom. "MY version of Slenderman is the ONLY version of Slenderman and everyone ELSE'S version of Slenderman can go to hell!" "Jeff simply CANNOT be older than 13! You're a stupid fangirl if you think otherwise!" "My headcanon of The Rake is the CORRECT headcanon and everyone el

So, like many, I think the Nintendo 2DS is pretty stupid. But where others go on to criticize Nintendo and screaming bloody murder, I chose to just let it slide because the Nintendo 2DS isn't meant for me so I don't really care one way or the other.
See this is the problem I see with people who bitch and moan about Nintendo. They treat every single announcement like it somehow personally affects them, when usually it's an OPTIONAL thing they don't have to even deal with. Remember during the casual vs hardcore wars of the Wii era and people decrying Nintendo for adding the option to let Luigi play a level of NSMBWii if you failed too many times? Brilliant idea that ensures that players that work at it succeed and never see the option, and players that are duly frustrated after dying X number of times are allowed to still proceed but at a cost. But nope, that announcement was treated a

No Death Star for you.I didn't know this until now, but the White House is obliged to respond to to a petition with over 25,000 signatures. This meant they HAD to dignify the request of 30,000+ US citizens that the US construct a full sized, functional Death Star with an answer. No Death Star for you.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm not quite sure what percentage of those 30,000+ citizens realise that using a planet-destroying laser to take out people on the planet on which you live is an ever-so-slightly flawed agenda.....

I call it the Dynamic Pose Contest.
Yes, you probably know where this is going just judging from the title. The point of this contest is for you to draw one (or more) of your characters in a particularly dynamic pose. I'll be looking for usage of foreshortening, perspective, and squash-and-stretch techniques. (And if you don't know what any of these terms mean, then you can easily Google them. I checked. Google gives you good results if you just plug in the words.)
I'll be judging this competition based on how much effort you put in to breaking your character out of their usual poses. Some of us already know how to draw dynamic poses, while some of us have yet
Turn Based Combat.I picked up XCom: Enemy Unknown yesterday, and it suddenly struck me that this is the first turn-based strategy (computer/video) game I've played in years.Turn Based Combat.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
They seemed to go out of style about a decade ago, which is a real shame, especially on the RPG front.
Two of my all time favourite games are Shining Force 2 and Skies of Arcadia, both of which featured turn-based combat and felt epic as a result.
But with action games taking a fore of late, everything just felt like it had started to become a rush. You never have time to savour anything anymore. The character designs, the music, the monsters, the setting. With a turn based combat you can take your time and enjoy it all, and, most importantly, when you fail you KNOW it was your fault, not a shoddy camera angle or sluggish controls.
I think that's why the last squad-based RPG I played was Final Fantasy XII, which introduced Real Time Battles. Don't get me wrong, it worked really well, but I just felt it wasn't as

In other parts of the world, however, it's a continuing threat. Such as in Norway, where a man recently swerved to avoid a moose.....and hit a bear.

Paranoia and a sense of impending doom.
The "party game" I just picked up should do the trick.
Each player gets a Nerf gun, the name of a target and the location in the house where they have to shoot them at some point over the course of the evening.
Nothing says "Christmas" like an assassination contract.
.....yes. I have been playing Hitman too long.

Ever since "Lorcraft" cropped up in Sequential Art, I've been working on an RPG system for an actual, pen-and-paper Lorcraft game and have a few really good ideas that should (in theory) work.
It's a ways off yet, though. It's the kind of thing that'll need some serious playtesting, and I have a zillion other projects to conclude first (LITTLEVICTORYLITTLEVICTORYLITTLEVICTORY!)

Or you were, but couldn't do much more than drool on the keyboard and gnaw the mouse like a rusk.
Luckily for you, some die-hard fans have spent the past 8 years using Valve's own tools to lovingly rebuild the legendary locale that Gordon Freeman escaped over a decade ago .
.well, most of it. Xen is missing for now, but that bit was sh*t, so who cares?
Black Mesa will be free to download on the 14th September .which really did surprise me.
When I first heard about the project (a good few years back) I thought Valve themselves would snap up the concept and bundle it in with an "Orange Box 2".
I'm usually opposed to remakes, but the prospect of seeing Half Life 1 rendered in glorious Half Life 2 detail does make the geeky nerves tingle.

The reason these issues with women in comics and gaming and nerd culture in general is because of inclusivity and broadening demographics. Over a decade ago, nerd culture was still very much male dominated and exclusive. But over the years women have been getting into comics and gaming and everything else geek related much more so. I mean... don't get me wrong, they were ALWAYS there to being with... but for whatever reason it just started to become more socially acceptable to admit that you were a woman and a geek/gamer.
But the problem is that most of nerd culture and gaming are doing things same-old-same-old like they've always been doing things. They produce content exclusively for male audiences and don't understand why women are takin

Bruce trained for 7 years (Alfred mentions his absence in Batman Begins) and he sulked for 8 years between Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises. Between that, and including the short time in Dark Knight Rises in which he wore the cowl, Nolanverse Bruce was only Batman for about a year, tops (Joker's line "Let's rewind a year" tells us this).
One. F**king. Year.
"Caped Crusader" the Nolanverse Batman is not.
He is "Bat Temp".
