Personal comment: This piece has undergone many various stages and I am somehow content with the result. It was very fun creating it. Hope you like it! Thanks to `taenaron for giving me constant advice.
I've always wanted to add a sun to my gallery! `taenaron's latest exclusive wip reminded me of that thought This is a wallpaper, the empty space at the top left corner was intended (my trash can icon is there ) p.s.: Most original title ever thanks a lot for visiting!
Original size: 4500x2813px@300dpi time spent: all in all about 5 hours Photoshop cs3, 3ds max & wacom
I ever wanted to do such a pic. And finally I'm pretty happy. I know there are still some things that seem to be kinda off but I don't care because the whole image is (in my opinion) in harmony. The most time I spent on the galaxy that is about to be destroyed by a giant black hole. Some last Star-Destroyer are on the run. Unfortunately this epic scene takes place behind the planet, so you won't see it I'm really sorry but I had to pay some attention to realism, and a planet isn't transparent.
My second entry for =theluminarium's latest exhibition called "Genesis". Project Genesis is inspired by an old Star Trek movie. The project turns dead and lifeless planets into green earth-like habitats. The population of the main-planet decided to colonize the two neighboring moons and startet a Genesis missile for each. In the process of transformation, everything gets killed. The evacuation is in full progress...
First of all: I know, this is almost the exact same image as the older version of Sapphire Blue, but there are some crucial changes to the piece. I've read all your comments and your suggestions (thanks, everyone!) and decided to edit it.
The reason why I am uploading this as a new deviation and not just edit my older one, is, that I'm not quite sure, whether to like this new edited version or not. So, I've removed the asteroids, the comet (which was way too random in my opinion) and enhanced the colours a bit. On the one hand, without the asteroids I'm missing the dynamic and depth in this piece, but on the other hand, the overall composition is much better. What do you think?
Furthermore, with this project I have realized that my monitor needs a colour calibration. This will be a pain in the a**!
So anyways, I hope you like it, I'm not sure if I do myself. Maybe I'll decide to scrap one of the two versions later.
Thanks again for all your feedback on the previous version you guys rock!

Now, you might think: "Hey wait a second.. I've seen this piece somewhere else before!" And this is where you are only half right!
This piece is a remake of one of my old pieces called: Starlit Night
I was quite sad about me not having a bigger size of Starlit Night for print purposes all these years. That is why I have decided to renew this piece. Also this piece has a personal meaning to me as an artist. This piece is painted and boosted with some textures from sxc.hu.
p.s.: Don't mind the cat (reference used for the cat)!
