Better Post-ProductionQuestion:Better Post-Production1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Hello Mickle.. i am very impressed with your work and love how your photos look like. If you find the time i would be so happy if you could take a look at my last few pics .. but mostly my studio work and tell me how to make them better in postproduction (PS). I use 2 lights in the studio, one softbox( for face) and one umbrella (for body) and on my camera a flash (Speedlight YN560) to activate the studio lights, or do you think i am on the right way ... i am using Canon EOS 600D. And again thanks so much for posting your work here !!!
Your best post-production actually begins in pre-production. You should know what a shot can look like in your head and have an understanding of how to get there before committing to taking the shot. Everything you do should be done with intent. It's there in the image because you wanted it there. Techniques were used because you wanted to use them. A happy accident is just that, an accident, they are unplanned and rare.
FINALLY VACAAAAAAAAAAAATION!! <3I guess that finally really, really deserves a sparkle!! xD Sorry that I was away for so long from deviantART but I was working for 4 weeks and meanwhile my mom went on a three weeks cure so I had loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooads of work in the household and because my grandma and my dad fell ill this much again that I even had to take them to the hospital since I could no longer help them because they were just too ill to be cared about at home. Luckily they immediately found out what they had and dad neither had to be operated nor did the whole thing (luckily!) kill him (since I put him into the hospital soon enough) but nevertheless I spent really much time taking care of both of them since my mom wasn't here. Now she is finally back and I am finally freed from my part-time job so I finally REALLY have holidays just like everybody else. Just my degree dissertation is left.FINALLY VACAAAAAAAAAAAATION!! <31 year ago in Personal More Like This

I'm leavingDon't worry, Im not leaving Deviant Art totally but I have decided to leave nearly all groups, and no longer submit my work to any of them.I'm leaving2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have been thinking long and hard about this and I truly believe the lack of activity on here is due to groups.
Even I get annoyed at seeing the same image appear in my watch list many times - many groups feature the same image.
My thought process is this, if I want to watch an artist or models work then I will add a watch to their profile.
I do not see why "Groups" should get the credit (and watches) for featuring other peoples work.
OK, I know that by adding my work to groups then my work is more likely to be seen by a wider audience, but I already have 13,000 watchers of my work. Of them, only a handful every comment or fave my work.
I really do appreciate every comment that my watchers make on my work and make every effort to reply to every one.
Here are just a few of my latest fave photos: Comments would be very much appreciated.

10 Years on deviantART!So like, woahhhh. 10 years. Crazy. How did time pass by so fast?10 Years on deviantART!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It doesn't really exactly feel like that long ago when I first started visiting dA and now it's already been a decade.
So kinda for myself (and also anyone possibly interested) here's a journal post recapping my last 10 years~ (Also sort of my journal in photography too, I guess.)
May 17 2002
I signed up on dA when someone in the drawing group I hung out with told me to check out his works here. I was only 14 then. I didn't use dA a lot at the time because it looked like this: http://web.archive.org/web/20030426063919/http://www.deviantart.com/
I was on a 15" 1024x768 display and the ad banner + dA header took up half my screen on every page load. Did not like. >_>
I dropped by dA every now and then, in Sept I suddenly found it a lot more user-friendly, the new version: http://web.archive.org/web/20030922013355/http://www.deviantart.com/
I added dA to my daily visit and I started mak
The Adventures of Squicken... Week OneMy name is Cameron Michael but all my friends call me "Squicken". It's a mixture of "Squid" (what Mommy calls my Dad) and "Chicken" (what Daddy calls my Mommy). I was born last Tuesday the 18th, and have learned SO MUCH that I asked Dad if I could write about it here in his journal. The Adventures of Squicken... Week One1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Dad gave me permission so here goes my first attempt at writing. Don't judge me too harshly because I'm only a week old and I've got my hands full trying to learn stuff. For instance, eyes!!! Wow, eyes are tough to control! It's hard to focus them and move them all around. I can't really see all that well yet but I think I recognize Mom and Dad and I CERTAINLY recognize a fine nipple, which makes Dad proud. Of course, I don't have much experience with other nipples but, I have time to fix that.
I spent a few days in ICU (Mom, Dad, and I called it "jail") at the hospital because Mom ran a fever during birth and the docs said they found some indication of infection in the blood samples they took from me

SOPA, Hypocrisy, Scandal, DMCA, and CensorshipMissing The PointSOPA, Hypocrisy, Scandal, DMCA, and Censorship2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been disappointed to see the various responses to SOPA, especially the "DEVIATION CENSORED" images. They so completely miss the point that I can only assume the people posting them have absolutely no comprehension of what SOPA means, why it's a problem, and what they're actually protesting against.
First off, SOPA is not about censorship. Unfortunately, many of the opponents of SOPA decided to cast it as being about censorship in order to mobilize public opinion. Why did they do that? Unfortunately, they did that for two reasons: 1) they knew that without mobilizing mass support, the bill would go through and 2) they knew that the masses they wanted to get support from simply don't care/understand the real problem enough to do anything - because the truth is much to complicated for the typical internet user. I have some sympathy for that view, because I've discovered over and over again that copyright is, in fact, too complicated for the typi
Women ArtistsThe other day, I attempted to put together a huge list of some professional and semi-pro women artists over on my tumblr, because it seems like too often women get overlooked when it comes to being honored and recognized. This year, I was incredibly honored to be nominated for a Hugo award in the Best Professional Artist category, but I was a little shocked to find out there hadn’t been another woman nominated in that category since Rowena Morrill in 1986. That’s more than a little ridiculous, considering there are so many women artists out there who are all amazing, who offer unique points of view and design solutions, and who need more visibility and recognition. While putting this list together, I was really excited to find tons of new artists I'd never heard of before.Women Artists1 month ago in Personal More Like This
Salvador Allende 1908-1973DISCLAIMER: last year when I decided to commemorate this, I received quite some flame because I wasn't commemorating the two towers, and instead something else. I'm not american, so although I feel sorrow for the death and loss that marked that day for the USA, I don't feel the urge to commemorate it. There are many September 11. I choose to commemorate the death of whom I see as a personal hero. Please be a civilized person and respect that.Salvador Allende 1908-19733 months ago in Personal More Like This
Exactly fourty years ago today Salvador Allende died in mysterious circumstances after the military coup sponsored by the United States of America had put an end to democracy and freedom in Chile, thus starting a dark age of dictatorship, repression, and the well known phenomenon of the desaparecidos, the people who were made disappear by the dictatorship. An approximate estimation suggests that some 40'000 people were made disappear by the military dictatorial government, and over 600'000 were imprisoned and tortured.
Misapplied philosophy can be poisonousThe biggest difference between venom and poison is its method of delivery. Venom is a toxin that is forcibly inserted into the body (usually through stabbing or piercing) while poison is a toxin that is ingested (whether by eating/drinking or breathing). It could be said that the method of delivery is the only real difference, hence the literary idea that a poisoned dagger has been envenomed…Misapplied philosophy can be poisonous7 months ago in Personal More Like This
I'm quite certain that anybody reading this has heard and understand the term "the pathway to hell is paved with good intentions".
In his novella Candide, Voltaire wrote: "Optimism is the madness of insisting that all is well when we are miserable."
. . . .
So, what do these three mostly unrelated concepts have to do with each other? Well… me. I guess.
In my efforts to try to improve myself and try to take the words of wisdom I often give to others to help them out when they are stumbling or struggling through hardship, I have inadvertently poisoned myself.
I am a firm believer in the idea
Ten Facts and Ten QuestionsThis is an old TAG that has been around Deviant Art for years.Ten Facts and Ten Questions10 months ago in Personal More Like This
I will NOT tag anyone, BUT I will post ten ARTIST questions for my friends and watchers to consider for their journal. That would be YOUR choice (even IF you are a visitor).
*AmongTheFirst http://amongthefirst.deviantart.com/ sent me this tag, and I thought it would be a good way to introduce myself to some of my new watchers and friends. IF you ever wondered who Zage56 is.
Here are ten things about Zage56
1. I work seven days a week, ten to twelve hour days.
2. I would love to go to artist convention, or an anime convention.
3. I'm usually online when I get home or getting ready to go to work.
4. In real life, I rarely see more than dozen people a week (unless I go to the market or restaurant).
5. I keep in contact with most of my old friends by phone.
6. I have encountered a mountain lion in the wilderness, and it ran away scared. I'm not a hunter, but I have seen many wild animals, and treasure those memory's.
Greed. Power. People comparing selves to others. How come the vast majority of human beings are not happy unless they can look down upon someone else? Are their lives really so worthless that this is the only real pleasure they can find?Greed. Power. People comparing selves to others.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Why are sooooo many people seemingly only happy unless they have "power" over someone else?
If I died tommorow, and someone in "the next" asked me what I thought of the people of Earth, the first words out of my mouth would very likely be: "I hated it there. Everyone there has to constantly compare themselves to someone else"
But it's worse than that. It's not just "comparison" but the guys on Speedracer's or Ben Hur's racestrack with spikes on the end of their chariot wheels ready to rip up your tires _just incase_ you might have otherwise won fair-and-square. I'm talking about the people who not only have to compare themselves to others, but who _take action_ to make sure others around them perform "less well" than they otherwise would have. It's more common than you t

I don't know what to believe, really.
You can call me whatever you like, and you can say what you please to me, but you cannot deny that Invisible Children has risen to the surface of very murky waters. I don't care how many times my family tells me I waste my time with inflicting my opinions upon the world, I honestly don't. I just seriously doubt the legitimacy of Invisible Children; it is a charity of dubious origin. They did not even start the attack upon Kony, there is a far longer history.
The Invisible Children have also obtained exceptionally low ratings on websites such as Charity Navigator, due to the fact that it is never stated where your donations go to. Also, a recent report by The Council on Foreign Relations states 'In their campaigns,

Tip of the Day: the StruggleLearn to enjoy the struggle. Our most memorable goals we achieve in our lives are always extra special because of the many hardships we had to endure before succeeding. Those memories will be some of your fondest when you're successful. So take sometime to live in the moment and enjoy the struggle before achieving bigger and better things.Tip of the Day: the Struggle2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Tip of the day: The darkest momentsThe moment to shine the brightest is in darkness. Darkness can bring chaos but with it comes opportunity. Many times throughout my career when I pushed past the point when I'd usually give up, this is when I end up achieving my biggest successes. Fate seems to have a way to test us and only the ones that want it the most shall receive the fruits of their labor.Tip of the day: The darkest moments1 year ago in Personal More Like This

The 10 CommandmentsHello esteemed colleagues! This blog is particularly targeted to those of you who are considering pursuing a career in an art/creative field and those of you who are in art school as well. If you're not doing either of those things, the concepts here are good general advice for anything you're striving for, so definitely hang around and read on!The 10 Commandments6 months ago in Art Features More Like This
These '10 Commandments' were formulated by curator/artist/designer/entrepreneur/amazinginlyawesomehumanbeing Sergio Gomez. I had the opportunity of going to a lecture of his a few months back and it was very inspiring. So without any further ado, here they are!
10. You shall be PATIENT and CONSISTENT
One of the biggest lies you can tell yourself is that you will be an overnight success. Like any skill set, developing your artwork will take time. This is the same when looking for ways to advance your career, it won't fall into your lap. You must be earnest in looking for opportunities to show and sell your work, you

Stockers you should knowHey people! So, one of the many questions I get asked about how to improve figure drawing is where to find a suitable model. In a perfect world, friends and family members would sit for us artists for hours on end, however that's highly unlikely especially if you're looking for an "actiony" pose! Also, those of you who are just beginning to draw the figure need to do so from a human model. Drawing from life is, once again, ideal, but stock photos are the next best thing. Plus I'm always harping about dA's great stock so this is the list of some of the absolute best figurative/pose based human stockers on dA:Stockers you should know5 months ago in Art Features More Like This
