I went to see my favourite Orangutan today.. Emma.. :)

and she came over to see me as she usually does and she has had a baby!! It was so lovely that she wanted to show it off :)

the keepers didn't even know she was pregnant.. and I haven't visited for a while because of work.. so it was the first I knew of it.. I don't think the baby has a name yet.

She wasn't staying long though as there were people beginning to flood in so she went and hid behind a bush for some peace and quiet..

I did what I could to share it with everyone.. I never use a flash because she is so close and I wouldn't do that to her..

Hope you like :)

One of the Orangutans at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul, Minnesota. This place was such a delight: great animal environments, lots of overview areas where there were no wire nor glass obstructions and friendly volunteer workers who were absolutely in love with the place. The Minnesota Zoo, about 20 miles away, also has great photographer friendly environments... the two zoos make for a great overnight zoo safari.

I'd met a couple of families who had told me that I just "had" to visit the gorilla exhibit. Truthfully, I was going to skip it because it was cold and it was far back in the Zoo. But, since they encouraged me and told me that I just couldn't miss it, I went. Boy, what an adventure THIS turned out to be....so stay tuned....

Right now, we see Mr. Big Silver-back Male Gorilla minding his own business far back in the exhibit, far away from the windows....only he doesn't stay there....

In this photo, he looks really nice.....

Got a chance to go behind the scenes and get up close to some western lowlands gorillas. It was pretty cool being just a couple feet away from this big Silver-back named Mrithi. He is the leader of the Western Lowland Gorillas the Pittsburgh Zoo.

The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town was a serial written by Spike Milligan and Ronnie Barker that ran every week on The Two Ronnies sketch show in 1976 on BBC One. It featured a Jack the Ripper style madman stalking the streets of Victorian London, who killed or stunned his victims by blowing them a raspberry.

The genus name Lemur was selected by early biologists because the calls of some elusive lemur species brought to mind the cries of the spirits of the dead, or lemures, from Roman mythology..
