Michael Meyers the Killer from the Halloween franchise, at the age of 6 he killed his older sister Judith Meyers on Halloween and was sent to the Smithsgrove Sanitarium, after 15 years of sitting quietly and never speaking a word he suddenly breaks out to wreak havoc on Haddonfield killing anyone he met. Later in the second installment they added the fact that he is motivated to kill his family members most of all. The original Halloween franchise though it has 8 movies, Michael only stars in 7 as they tried something different in the third, after bad reviews they quickly went back to Michael and stuck with him from then on. Recently rebooted thanks to Rob Zombie Michael is back on the big screen in a highly debated disaster of a remake and it's sequel. The remake explored why a child would suddenly become a serial killer and for me took away Michael's essence , though the original series did try to do the same and suggest a supernatural reason. I personally prefer the original series (Part 1,2,4,5 and H20 mostly) but Rob did do one or two great scenes.

The so called Leatherface from the hugely popular Texas Chainsaw Massacre, about a family of misfit butchers kidnap, kill and eat thier victims, the most iconic memeber of the family being LeatherFace (Bubba Sawyer or Thomas Hewitt in the remake) so called as he skins and wears the face of his victims. This movie was inspired by the real killer and wearer of skin, Ed Gein "The Butcher of Plainfield". There has been 3 other movies of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in the original series and also two in a reboot series of the same name, In the reboot the story is essentially the same just with different family members and names. In 2013 a second sequel to the original was made.

The Ring, The American remake of a Japanese classic that kicked off the massive run of remakes from other countries. A News Reporter investigating the mysterious death of her Niece discovers a video tape that if you watch it you die in 7 days. Within those 7 days you are haunted by the mysterious long haired girl from the tape which we later find out is named Samara Morgan. This is by far my favorite Japanese/American remake even though it has became cliche. The original has the same core story line and was called "Ringu"

Based on a Stephen King novel "IT" depicts the story of 7 adults who suspect a series of murders is the handywork of a creature they fought when they were children. They return to their hometown of Derry to once again face IT who knows all of their fears and uses them to it's advantage. IT's common form was in the shape of Pennywise the Clown played by Tim Curry. The story is a little similar to A Nightmare on Elm Street, an evil entity only visible to kids and plays on your fears to kill you, in all it is a good movie even though it is very different from the book, This movie is also the start of many peoples fear of clowns.

Another Legendary series from Wes Craven, The Scream franchise is the poster child for 90's Horror, One of the first of its's kind and then widely imitated, Scream depicts the story of a killer that dresses up in a Halloween costume based on the painting also called "The Scream". Later this look and killer was dubbed "Ghost Face" even though more than one killer (in total 7) have adopted the look. Ghost Face's other trademark was calling his victims before he murdered them, he commonly taunts and refers to horror films and as mentioned in Scream 2 "always answers a question with a question". The murders in this franchise all revolve around the main character Sydney Prescott played by Neve Campbell. Scream was intended to be a Trilogy and made a big deal about it since it was so rare in a horror genre... then they made Scream 4. Scream 4 was supposed to be the start of a new trilogy but i think it's whole existence is a mockery of the first three which were a great trilogy. In saying the i did rather enjoy Scream 4's plot but it wasn't nearly as good as the original 3.

We all know this guy,One of the most iconic and recognisible horror characters ever. Freddy Krueger, "The Springwood Slasher" from the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Freddy (played by Robert Englund) is a child murderer and molester, after being released by the police due to a technicality the parents of springwood burn freddy to death. Enraged by his murder Freddy vowed to kill all their children and in the one place the one place they can't be protected... in their drems. Tormenting them with his razor bladed glove and his menacing laugh as he kills them off one by one in some pretty inventive ways. The Freddy franchise spawned 7 movies not including Freddy vs Jason and the 2010 remake starring Jackie Haley Earle. Personally i have a love hate relationship with the remake, They had some great ideas in there such as the micro naps and the fact that Freddy was trying to induce a coma so he could keep Nancy forever... but they didn't follow through for me and ruined my favorite scene by trying to make it more violent and less creepy.

A popular character but maybe not as well known, Candyman was an artist who fell in love with the wrong girl. her father and a gang of friends chased and beat him, cutting off his painting hand and smothered him in honey so the near by bees would sting him to death. from then on repeating his Candyman 5 times in the mirror will summon him, a hook in place of his missing hand which he uses to split you from groin to gullet. Tony Todd made the role legendary and went down in history as being one of the first black horror film icons.

Another House hold name, Jason Voorhees The "Crystal Lake Killer", Star of the Friday the 13th movies. Jason actually never started killing untill the second installment, in the original Jasons mother "Pamela Voorhees" was the killer seeking revenge for Jason who supposedly drowned at the camp as a child. In Friday the 13th Part 2 Jason took up the killer role and since then spawned 11 movies including "Freddy vs Jason" and the remake that was released in 2009. Many have played Jason but the first name that comes to mind is always Kane Hodder who made the character what he is today after taking over on part 6, he was later replaced with Ken Kirzinger in FvJ and Derek Meres in the Friday remake which fans of the original series seem to despise since Jason is neither a Zombie or Mindless killer. i personally liked the new take and felt it blended the old with the new rather well, I didn't like the system of bells he had rigged up but that is just a small flaw in a other wise good remake. It also has one of my favorite opening scenes in Horror history.

Pumpkin Head is about a group of City kids who travel to the country and accidentally kill a storekeepers son. In a fit of rage the storekeeper has a witch unleash an unstoppable demon known as Pumpkin Head to track down and kill the group one by one. A late 80s hit that has spawned 4 sequels to my knowledge.
