About The BreedWhat is an Arabian Warmblood?About The Breed3 years ago in Personal More Like This
On the surface, the definition of an Arabian Warmblood is simple: it is the crossing of Arabian and warmblood horses. However, there is far more to this definition as a breed type. First and foremost, the Arabian Warmblood is bred to be a supreme performance animal: known to excel in eventing, hunter and similar disciplines. Functionality is their primary purpose, with the ability to compete on the international stage. In crossing the two breeds with specially selected studs and broods, the aim is to create a light, supple warmblood that combines the grace and presence of Arabians with the scope and athleticism of modern warmbloods.
The initial motivation in the cross was to refine the warmblood type without losing movement, as can often happen in Thoroughbred crosses. Special care is needed when selecting the sire and dam to ensure that the resulting foal is not disadvantaged in other aspects such as scope or height. The Arabian blood should add mo

Need textures? We had a feature of drawing references yesterday, so let's take a look at textures now. I must admit that I'm a total freak when it comes to this topic. I love textures, I love making them and I love seeing them everywhere. In this feature I'll also include some tutorials, traditional and digital, so you could learn how to make some on your own.Need textures?2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

The Credit Point System - Mini Shows March 2012 Mini Shows - CP points reducedThe Credit Point System - Mini Shows4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Due to their usually lower quality and the masses of doodle-like headshots. If they weren't mini show entries, they would only count 0.5 CP mostly and that is unfair to those who put time and effort into normal events and do training pictures. We therefore decided to change the CP that is given for Mini Show Entries and make it depending to the type of entry. High Quality Entries (Quality like a usual show entry) for Mini Shows can be accepted (see exeptional entries)
Mini Shows count for
headshot drawing for mini show: 0,5 CP + 0,5 CP for placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
full body drawing (sketchy, no background, lineart) 1 CP + 0,5 CP for placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
exeptional entries (full body, full shading, background): 1,5 CP + 0,5 CP
2011 May: Following Changes:
We want to encourage people to do training exchanges with other stables (stable interaction yay!) So there's a new chance for horses receiving CP:
The Training CourseRight, so on to the fun stuff! Since we all want to start showing our horses as soon as possible only five images are required. This is supposed to be fun, after all, and we don't want to ask for too much. The Training Course2 years ago in Personal More Like This
3. Accepting a saddle/rider.
4. First ride.
5. Final: Discipline training.
While we only require five images, there is so much more that you can do to train your horse! If you want to go that extra mile, here are five more images that we would love to see!
1. Worst fear discovered.
2. Good/Bad day.
3. Trailer work.
4. Visit from the farrier/vet.
5. Play time.
Note that you are more than welcome to draw your horse training/doing something that we haven't mentioned.
You can show your horse doing anything, as long as it fits into each category. For instance, when doing your groundwork image you might show a young foal to accept a halter or, if you are working on the lunging image, you could work t

I stared Dahvie intensively. I changed my position and made a displeased noise as I tried to get his attention.
He wouldn't look at me, he just crossed his arms like a five year old. I sighed and got up from our bed and walked up to Dahvie.
''Dahvieee!'' I said with a sad tone. He just glanced at me. ''Can we please stop fighting? Pleeeeeeease Dahvie?''
''I was right'' he said shortly, still not looking me in the eyes. I was so tired of fighting and all I wanted to do right now was to end this
stupid fight and go to sleep with my loved one.
''Fine, then. You were right, I was wrong. Peter Pan isn't a creep. Now, can we please go to bed?''
Dahvie looked at me with a small smile on his face and opened his arms.
''Aww Jayy'' he said and hugged me tightly.
''I love you'' I murmured in his ear.
''I love you too, now and forever''

"Have no fear of perfection - You'll never reach it! "
Have you studied Photography? I'm intrigued to know whether or not a qualification in Photography has made you a better, or indeed a worse photographer. Or has there been no change? This week, The Photography Blog asks whether or not a Photography Degree is worth the paper it's written on. Graduation in any field these days doesn't mean that you'll immediately get a job in your desired area. Not these days. So is it worth embarking on study related to photography when in the end, you could get to the same place without the paper stating what you are capable of? Photography is one of a small number of job areas where what you've done speaks higher volumes than whether or not you're

Another tutorial challenge? YES! Keep reading!
Part of "illumination" is learning, expanding our horizons, and helping others learn as well. So, this time we are not going to USE tutorials. Rather, we are going to MAKE them.
What you have to do
Your job is as follows:
Take a critical look at your gallery. What are your strengths as an artist? What are you really good at doing? Are you known for your light and shadow? Color use? "Glow" effects? Do you do skin well? Can you paint really well? Are you a master of masks? What do people compliment you on?
Create a detailed tutorial, with examples, of how you achieve this effect or do this technique. It does not have to involve the creation of a new deviation. You can explain how you did this effect in an old deviation or just with stock without making it a full deviation.
Project Educate: Photographing Infants + ChildrenPhotographing infants and children can either be really painful and frustrating, or incredibly fun and rewarding. It depends entirely on the child. I kid, sort of. It's what you make of it and how you treat the moment. Children are fast, sometimes moody, sometimes hyper and nearly always think they know what you want them to do when you turn the camera on them. Either run, or crack that huge fake camera smile that they've been taught to do for their school photographs.Project Educate: Photographing Infants + Children3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Don't force a smile. If the child doesn't want to smile, don't make them. You'll end up with the fake smile. However having said that, you can try and be funny, but again don't push it. They're smarter than many give them credit for. If you're not getting a smile but you're getting a rude funny face, then accept it. Those sorts of shots can be awesome as well.
Learn to accept imperfections. Whether the children are strangers to you or not, you can't have it perfect all of the time. Messy hair,

How to get started with Pixel ArtLately I have frequently been asked what programs I use for pixeling and/or animating and also in general how I go about it. Now I currently don't have the time to create a tutorial of my own but I figured until I will be able to do so I could at least give you some helpful tips and link you to some tutorials made by others. How to get started with Pixel Art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
About the programs I use
I do pretty much all the pixeling itself in Photoshop Elements 8.0 which sadly enough isn't free. But don't worry, in general photshop is even a little overpowered for pixel art, I simply use it because I am most used to it.
Technically you can even use Microsoft Paint for pixeling, after all the only two things you really need to be able to create pixel art is a pen tool and the ability to zoom in far enough. The only real disadvantage about Paint is the lack of transparency support so you can only create pixels with an opaque background.
However I can offer you a really great third optio

"Sam Dead" from "The League of Elder"
Currently I find myself in a phase of making advanced use of colors in my work to enhance depth, mood and to underline certain values.
While doing so, I found a necessity to share this knowledge and insights in some kind of a reference. There are practical tips for everyday use, this post is useful for traditional artists as well.
When working in a professional environment there is rarely the time to go out and do plein-air paintings or studies, this is something artists have to do in their spare time, to form the foundations and understanding of perception of our environment. On the other hand it is extremely important to see processed works as well, to see the differences and to learn from these observations.
Basically, all knowledge artists have, is built upon passion and is acquired through personal experience, museum-visits, observation and anatomical studies have to be done
