The Passing of Ray HarryhausenFew people outside of film geekdom and kaiju fan circles seem to know just how important a figure Ray Harryhausen has been to the art of cinema and special effects. The mastermind behind the modeling and stop-motion animation effects of films like CLASH OF THE TITANS, THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, and the film that is said to have influenced GOJIRA's production more than any other, THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, has passed away at the ripe age of 92.The Passing of Ray Harryhausen1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Ray lead a hell of a long, fruitful life. He gave us all so very, very much, and now is not so much a time for mourning as it is a time for remembrance and celebration of a life well lived.
Many will recall that my first full one-shot comic was WRATH OF THE TITANS: CYCLOPS, a tribute to Harryhausen's immortal imagining of the Cyclops. Ergo, Ray had a special place in my heart.
My friend and writer Richard has penned a nice article on Harryhausen, in which he includes a brief recounting of my own meeting with the specia
ERMAHGERD PACIFIC RIM HNNNNNG.Update - My plans for fan art have been shattered. I don't think anything I could do would come close to :icondrbuffalo:'s amazing vision.ERMAHGERD PACIFIC RIM HNNNNNG.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
My initial impressions -
- Definitely a lot of "buzz words" and "posing" by the lead actors, which is to be expected in a film of this type.
- I found the opening monologue a little cheesy and kinda' weak, but the speech by Idris "The Sexual Warlord" Elba was pretty damn cool.
- Man, now THAT'S how you make/film giant CGI robots. The "Bayformers," while having a handful of decent moments, are all such incomprehensible piles of metal and shrapnel that it just makes for bad overall aesthetic. The Jaegers do it right - broad colors, recognizable humanoid shapes, and ROCKET PUNCHES. It'll be interesting to see what kind of different powers and attacks each robot brings to the table.
- And as for the monsters...

Just wanted to say thanks to you all for giving me pageviews and comments and likes and all that jazz.
Sorry if I am being recalcitrant or acerbic at the moment. XD I am planning a trip to visit Australia for the first time since I left three years ago- and EVERYTHING IS GOING WRONG AT THE EXACT LAST MINUTE AND AHHHHHHHHHH.... So I am on the impatient grumpy side.
Thanks for all being awesome- even the people who leave nasty comments. Because you give me pageviews which makes my photos more popular which means the people who like me can find me easier.
Stay wonderful. *hug*
The Stomping Landhttp://www.kickstarter.com/projects/524168447/the-stomping-land/posts/502044The Stomping Land1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Dear Deviants! I'm posting for you here to let you check out the kickstarter of a certain little project to which I got a little involved. The Stomping Land is an online video game in which players undertake the rol of tribal hunters to hunt and survive in a world of dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures.
Luckily I rushed in them just in time to shout out "WAIT! what if...we use non-cliche dinosaurs?" And the reactions were great!
The devlopers are very open and friendly and hopefully we'll be able to see all types of wonderful yet unfortunaly currently unpopular ancient creatures such as prestosuchids and Azhdarchids as well as some dinosaurs that never make it to popular media, like Stygimoloch and my beloved Austroraptor.
So if you are interested in the game as a project (I honeslty think it's a kickass one), you want to support the popularity of new ancient species in the eyes of new generations, or ju

Starting with issue 2, I'll be contributing new covers, along with :iconzornow: for quite a few issues! And they may not even be retailer incentives, so you'll actually be able to buy them!
For those dissatisfied with KINGDOM OF MONSTERS, don't worry, EVERYTHING will be different in the new series. Here's to a great 2012!
A Kaiju Combat updateAs some of you may or may not know, the Kaiju Combat Kickstarter page was recently taken down. I received a deluge of emails and calls on the subject, and thought it might be wise to publicly speak a bit more about it.A Kaiju Combat update2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In a nutshell, back in December, Wizards of the Coast (owners of Magic: The Gathering) contacted Simon Strange, director of Kaiju Combat, and claimed that our game "Kaiju Combat" was infringing on their copyright of "Kaijudo," a card game with monsters and whatnot in it. As I understand it, Simon's lawyer responded by simply pointing out that since they held no copyright over "Kaiju," a common-use word, they had no claim. WOTC fell silent and the matter appeared to have been dropped.
Fast-forward to now, where they seemed to have not only ignored the initial response, but gone over our heads to Kickstarter, issuing a renewed claim...despite the fact that the Kickstarter was already successfully funded.
Here's an article on the subject -
On my SexualityI get this question a LOT: Are you gay?On my Sexuality2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But, I do not mind answering this question. In fact, I'm pleased that people don't jump to conclusions and automatically label me as gay because of the pictures I take. Not that it's a big deal if someone thought I was gay, it's just that I dislike when people make assumptions about me.
So, am I gay? Well, mostly no.
This may be a bit surprising to some of you, but please, continue reading and I will try my best to explain.
I like girls. I love girls. I'm physically and emotionally attracted to girls. Ever since I became a horny teenager, (come on we all were at one point ) I have found women to be the most attractive work of art on earth. I have had relationships in the past with girls my age, but they were never REALLY serious.
Now, on to the other side of the human race: I do not find men to be physically attractive. I would never be in a relationship with another man, at least nothing serious. I don't have feelings for men, you see.

Microsoft wants to sell you a 1984-device"Kinnect is always watching"Microsoft wants to sell you a 1984-device1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Seriously Microsoft the Xbox ONE (stupid name) is already unappealing as is.
Here's the thing, (And I hope I'm wrong) The Xbox one will/can be voice operated.
here's a question, "How does it recognize your voice when it's off?"
easy the Kinnect is never "off" but in stand-by mode. meaning it can hear what you say at any given time.
now I'm not one to to promote paranoia, but that seems a little..."off"
First off, I hate the kinnect. I hated it since it's inception. I think it's a stupid gimmick-y device aimed at those who don't know any better.
I like holding a controller and using my thumbs thank you very much.
but they've built this new system around the kinnect and insist that we "WANT IT" even though I've seen sizable argument against the device.
UGH! It might not sound like it, but I hate the fact that I have to hate this system.
"It can watch TV"
-"Neat! though I already have a TV for that"
"It can play music!"
-"I have a computer, MP3
I probably sound redundant, butt...Heh, butt. Anyways, yeah, I've been gone a long time. I check in every now and then to reply to comments, notes, thank people, etc. But I just haven't had much time for DA lately. It sucks, but life outside the internet can be a real bitch. Sometimes it just grabs all of my attention and won't let go. I truly, truly, wish that I could be more active, but I simply can't.I probably sound redundant, butt...4 months ago in Personal More Like This
I will say this though: don't worry about me quitting. Just because I take long absences, I'll always try my best to poke my head back in to say "hey".
Thanks, and hopefully I pop up again soon.

How large is MOR 008?Not as large as many Tyrannosaurus fans think it is.How large is MOR 008?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The ~1.5-meter reconstructed skull seems to be exaggerated, reconstructing it like a normal Tyrannosaurus skull actually gets it down to ~1.34 meters from snout to the quadratojugal.
It appears that :iconshartman: agrees with this: http://comments.deviantart.com/1/124138016/2984794292
So how large is this specimen? Well, it is pretty similar to AMNH 5027(they were both assigned to "Tyrannosaurus X"), so it seems to be a good base to use.
And here's the result:
It's still one of the largest known Tyrannosaurus specimens, but due to it's more gracile build, still smaller than FMNH PR2081.

Fake Deviants.A teacher in New York was teaching her class about bullying and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take out a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stomp on it and really mess it up, not to rip it. Then she had them unfold the paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty it was. She then told them to tell it they're sorry. Now, even though they said they were sorry and tried to fix the paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it. That is what happens when a child bullies another child, they may say they're sorry, but the scars are there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the message hit home. Copy and paste this if you are against bullying.Fake Deviants.3 years ago in Personal More Like This

The Skeldergate’s challenge must always be present. Only those that have passed the challenge may enter, and no challenge is ever alike.
When the felines first came to Endolyn they came at the edge of winter. A blizzard had blown these travelers right into fate’s clutches, and so, their journey began.
The blizzard was none other than the guardian of Endolyn, confused by the large number of felines that had found themselves upon the gate’s entryway. All entrants must be tested, and when there were too many to test at once, the spirit did what it knew best to keep as many out as possible.
It sent the elements after these tired felines to allow them entry. Those that survived would be allowed to enter the world of Endolyn, while those that did not would pay the price of their own lives.
These felines were running from the likes of man. Their homes had been destroyed, and those
