TIL feature 02 - forestsTIL stands for "Things I Like"TIL feature 02 - forests11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Every week I'll pick a theme and feature a small amount of works related to the theme;
at the end of each journal I'll announce the next theme in case you want to feature somebody~ :3
All mediums are allowed, unless specifically announced before that.
I just love forests. There is something mystical and charming in all the trees, the lack of annoying sounds and the fallen tree branches and leaves crunching under your feet...
Please check these lovely people~
My next theme is web comics;
I will post art/fanart to my favourite web comics. If you have any of your own, you should let me know, so I can feature them too! :3
feel free to suggest artwork, photography, stock images, crafts... anything related to the theme!

You CAN'T ask your buyers to pay YOUR paypal feesWe had a bit of controversy over this a little while ago. Yep, you people involved, this is a journal directed at you, and anyone else in future who thinks about doing this. You CAN'T ask your buyers to pay YOUR paypal fees4 months ago in Personal More Like This
Let me get this one particular thing clear:
It violates Paypal's Terms of Service to ask your buyers to pay YOUR fees.
This is NOT my opinion. This is fact. When you first joined Paypal, you were asked to read their terms of service, and agree to them before opening an account. If you had, then you'd have realised this.
Don't believe me? Here, we've singled it out for you in black and white. https://cms.paypal.com/ch/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=ua/FeesPolicy_full&locale.x=en_US
Please understand we are not telling you this to criticise your art, your products, or your family. This is not a personal attack against you. This is calling you out for something that is clearly breaking rules and policies, which you obviously don't care for.
Do you understand why Paypal have this policy? Well, it's to p

Means died Monday of throat cancer at the age of 72. On Wednesday, more than 300 people attended the funeral service on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
"He will be replaced by thousands," said Bill Means, Russell Means' only surviving brother. "One person is not going to replace him, but through his work, through his family, he will be replaced 1,000 times over."
Those attending the service said Means made them feel proud to be a Native American by encouraging them to take pride in their heritage and challenging them to live it.
Means himself never shied away from confrontation. As a young American Indian Movement leader, he spearheaded the 71-day occupation of Wounded Knee, which grabbed the attention of the entire nation.
But Means was never meant to be a warrior, said Chief Leonard Crow Dog, a Lakota medicine man who participated in the Wounded Knee occupation in 1973. Means, he said, was first and foremost a spiritual leader, but the times called for

Metal CommissionsAll right, so, I've been looking at metal ring and pet tag prices everywhere for nickel, brass, and copper, and this is what I've come up with so far, it is subject to change-Metal Commissions2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Solid band, with engraving/stamp: $15
Band with embedded design: $15
Band with cutouts: $15-17 (depending on difficulty of cutout(s))
Band with something soldered on it (See this cuff): $18-$20
Discounts when multiple rings are ordered.
Please note that bands with cutouts and soldered pieces will likely be a wider band than the engraved and stamped ones.
Pet tags mainly would be simpler shapes, more like circles, hearts, bones, fish, etc. with just the name of the pet. Though if you have something else in mind, let me know and I can probably cut it out. They'd be around the 1"x1"-1.5"1.5" range, as far as size goes.
Simple shape with stamped/engraved letters: $6

I wanted to offer some quick resources for those who may be interested in the spiritual work I do with animal parts, since I've been talking about it again lately, and also because it's part of why I created :iconPaganRitualTools: (since the main reason I started making ritual tools and other art with animal parts in the '90's was due to spiritual, sacred reasons). There's really not that much info available on the subject; most of the people I know who have worked with animal parts in neopagan spirituality did so based on the work I've done, though some of the innovations they've made have been pretty fascinating. And other than a chapter in Patricia Telesco's and Rowan Hall's "Animal Spirit", and a few scattered articles online (like Juniper's "Dead Things on the Altar: http://nature.pagannewswirecollective.com/2011/07/24/dead-things-on-the-altar/ ), I've found very little published information on non-indigenous uses of animal
Being a Pro ArtistBeing a professional artist can be a discouraging road to take when you are attempting to make a career of it. In fact trying to make a career of anything creative is usually met with a struggle between having what is considered a "Real Job" or being able to live the rest of your life on Ramen soup.Being a Pro Artist2 years ago in Personal More Like This
That's how I used to feel. The truth is that although the concept of a starving artist is popular and somewhat romantic, having that perspective won't do anything to pay bills. Some people may feel that they need to have hardship in order to be creative... This won't do anything for your bills either.
The truth is that my discouragement came from viewing myself as some kind of socially awkward creative genius who was misunderstood by society. Although this made sense of why I wasn't openly sharing my art with the world, it was a lie to excuse myself from doing more as far as creating a career as an artist. The interesting thing is that the more I talked about how hard it was, the more peopl

Got an A in Ancient Greek. I must kill Plato, or Socrates, or preferably both.
Got accepted to the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies program, so I'll be in Rome all of next semester. WOOT!!
Parents bought me a Viking helmet beanie. A VIKING. HELMET. BEANIE.
My Mom got me a copy of Hobbitus Ille - The Hobbit translated into Latin. I fully embrace my nerdiness. I have the arm muscles to compensate for it.
FINALLY played Zelda: Twilight Princess. Yeah, after however many years...I got it for PC, cuz I no has munny fo a Wii or GameCube. Slash I don't have time during school. My fave bit is the mounted combat. WOO! Horse archery ahoy!! Ah, and me discreetly scribbling away with some Zelgan/Zelink stuff...NOM.
And I SAW TEH HOBBIT.
I was exceedingly worried about this movie. The book was a huge part of my childhood. I remember lying on the floor of our living room cowering in terror as my mother read to my brother and I about Smaug's attack of Dale, abo

With the growth in popularity of the e-book many authors are seeing a glimmer of hope and realizing that they can get their work out there without having to break into the velvet roped publishing house exclusive party. This means that you will begin to get even more solicitations from those authors looking for artists to bring visuals to their words.
If you have a website or have done any degree of online advertising of your artwork, you have probably gotten an e-mail with a similar message as the title. If not, you will at some point. It's best to be prepared now. For those who have gotten it, nine times out of ten you aren’t sure how to respond to it, what should you ask, how do you respond?
I was tired of retyping essentially the same letter over and over again. I finally saved a template of the letter I use in this situation

Review Mania + Waiting Game FeatureLatest newsReview Mania + Waiting Game Feature11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Hi guys! Time for another feature, but first I'm sure you guys have heard about The Review Project over at ~LitLoveCommunity by now. The task is to post 'reviews' of a writer or of a writers body of work on their deviantart page (or, if they have a book on Amazon you can post it there, just let me know their DA name when you send me the link). Well I have started my quest and I am going to share my reviews here so that you can see and maybe get some more people involved :>
Elizabeth's work displays a beautiful modernicity; she can take two contrasting ideas and combine them to make something fresh and innovative. She knows how to make language new again and her work is always exciting and inventive.
Melissa's portfolio of work is a revelation, unlike anything else I've read before. With hints of Hemingway, Cummings, Smith and something uniquely new Melissa delivers time after time something original and haunti
In Which We Determine I Am Not an Indoor WolfI have spent the better part of two weeks being sick with a gut bug. I'm almost recovered at this point but am still fatigued enough that it's going to be a couple more days before I can reliably leave the apartment for more than a little while. It's definitely going to be a bit longer before I get to go hiking again. But even going outside so far as to walk down the block has been a challenge. I went out Friday afternoon to walk an errand, and was overjoyed to get absolutely drenched in the rain, simply because it meant I wasn't inside. In Which We Determine I Am Not an Indoor Wolf1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Now, my apartment is a pretty cozy place to be. I have just about everything I need here–my work, lots of books, my computer, company in the form of my partner, and so forth. So being restricted to this place isn't the worst thing in the world. Even on the days when I was so tired I mostly just slept, I had a nice, warm, comfy bed to snooze and snuggle in. I even popped open the bedroom window during the day so I could see the cherry and maple trees ou
Something that makes me happyYou know what makes me happy? Back in the 1990s when I started making dead critter art and was donating some of the money to the Defenders of Wildlife (who were always my first nonprofit love) I didn't know *anyone* else doing that. And now when I wander around Etsy and deviantArt and such and see other artists also donating part of their money to various nonprofits, it makes me happy, because there are a LOT of us out there (comparatively speaking, anyway). It's nice to not be the only one. And I know not everyone started donating because they saw me doing so, but I like to think that being so public about it has helped inspired at least a few others over the years to give, whether from art money or just out of general funds.Something that makes me happy1 year ago in Personal More Like This
We dead critter artists do have to come to terms with the fact that, directly or not, living things die for our art. We work with the sacred remains, and some of us work with the skin spirits. But it's good to see more people giving back, too. My partner likes to

P90X Start to Finish, Tips and a Quick Record.Recently i decided to commit to P90X and i would like to share my results and share a few of my tips. ^.^P90X Start to Finish, Tips and a Quick Record.2 years ago in Personal More Like This

What is p90x?
It is a structured work out, six days a week, averaging about 1 hour every day, working out different parts of your body every day. It is a 90 day work out.

In 2010 i weighed 155 lbs. I decided to make some diet changes, here are some tips i found that helped me loose about 25 lbs without a harsh work out.
(these tips REALLY help with the work out though )
- instead of soda or pop, drink water! (your suddenly cutting 150+ empty calories out of your diet)
- when you go to an office, use the stairs, not the elevator. Also in parking lots, park in the back on purpose.
- Eat more protein. (chicken, protein shakes)
- Cut out as much
