I love Gunstar Heroes as much as it's humanly allowed to love an action game, in particular the weapon combining system. In retrospect, maybe limiting 2 at a time is a good choice >.>

Introduction:

Naitlya Taimi is the main protagonist of Master of Dragons (hereafter referred to as either "MoD" or "MaoDra"). The story is told in first person from her perspective.

She was born among the fauns of the Trefaelor Forest on the Northern Continent, but left soon after her mother died. She ended up in a small farming village on the Volin Isles, coincidentally named after the faun's patron goddess, Readimina.

Despite living there for nearly 24 years, Naitlya has not made many friends. The humans of the area do not encounter what they call the "immortal" races very often. ("Immortal" is a misnomer, however. It simply refers to the extremely long lives held by the fauns, dragon-kin, and merkind. For example, fauns don't reach "adulthood" until age 35, and dragon-kin aren't full grown until at least 100.) This causes them to be a bit standoffish, and avoid direct confrontation with the faun. She is fine with this, choosing to keep company with only a few - namely the bartender of the local pub, her drinking buddy Morrense, and his family.

Naitlya is an innately curious and nosy creature, not above gossip or eavesdropping. This causes her to be a rabid bibliophile, eager to learn and put the knowledge to good use. What she has learned over the years assists her in her modest business of selling medicinal tinctures to the townspeople. She makes just enough to spend at the pub every evening, and she has never needed more.

However, when she hears a dragon-kin has been lurking about the village, her curiosity that has always been so advantageous soon gets her into trouble. Naitlya cannot stop herself from following him to see what he’s up to, even if she ends up getting involved herself.

Origins:

Naitlya's undergone some changes over the years. When I started the "short story" that eventually became MaoDra's first two chapters, she was skinnier, sterner, and generally grumpier than her current incarnation. She had straight hair, cut into an A-line bob, and for a while she did not wear any sort of pants. As the story went on, she became a squishier character. As she grew more feminine, her appearance changed and became more modest. Her hair first became layered, then curled, and the skirt appeared under her coat.

The Future:

I don't foresee Naitlya's design changing much beyond this point. It's practical, yet cute, and goes with her personality. At a later point in the story, she will have to require a new outfit (because this one unfortunately gets ruined) but I have no solid plans for that one except that it will consist mostly of the same coat/scarf/shirt/skirt ensemble.

I've had to redesign the chinese character in my short film because I found her design to be kinda...well, boring. My lecturer suggested I make her more punk/alternative style so I tried a few designs like that. It had to be done since I would animate her the next day. Talk about last minute changes ^^;

So my keywords (since they tend to help) were "nerdy punk skater". The nerdy part is probably more of a personally trait than a visual thing.
The two favourites were the ones in the center; the knee length shorts with the white t-shirt, and the long baggy pants with the Guitar Hero-inspired top (thank you, Guitar Hero :D ) The baggy pants design wins in the end as it works for both films that I'll be doing and I like drawing it :)

Again, sorry for the huge gap between pages. I've either been busy with busy things or just busy with being lazy. For this, I apologise. However, now, in honour of the lovely El's ([link]) birthday, I am going to upload 3 consecutive pages, as a belated birthday gift. Well, it's what she asked for, anyway.

---

- First, here ([link]) is the original draft of this page. The only real difference is the "above-head" view of Sonic in the last panel, which I couldn't re-draw because of lack of talent.

Panel 1

- I recently submitted my hard labour to the Sonic Verse Team fan comic website ([link]) to whore myself out a bit more. This is the panel that was used as the cropped preview image that the maintainer of the site chose to advertise my comic. I'm not too proud of it to be honest, but as I have literally nothing else to say about abot this panel, I thought I'd mention it.

Panel 2

- Ah, yes, the rocky Eggman face. Unique because the short shot of it is cut from the high resolution version of the opening animations to the game. Why? Who knows. Another mystery for the "hacking" community to delve into, me thinks.

- Something I didn't know prior to drawing this panel was that the Eggman face also acts (or rather, possibly acts) as Eggman's hide away. I only realised this once Madi pointed it out to me. So, props to her for that.

- Sammy has pointed out that I don't draw the base jagged enough. I'm not sure I agree, but I have said that I will try to make it more angular and natural looking. Without much success.

- The SFX used on this panel ("Daaa - Haahaha!!!") is one of Eggman's trademark laughs. This particular laugh debuted in the Sonic the Hedgehog Japanese manual. Off the top of my head, it's also featured in the Sonic 2 Japanese manual and the Sonic Drift.

Panel 3

- Aha, the first appearance by Doctor Eggman. I don't think he looks particularly good here, but he sure is fun to draw. Next to Sonic, he's probably the character I draw most, if I'm bored and wish to doodle all over a newspaper or something. The way I've drawn him here really doesn't do justice to the character. I swear it gets better in a few pages time.

- Eggman's mobile used here is actually the wrong one for Sonic CD. I will rectify this in future pages, when Sonic destroys the first "chicken legged" boss in Palmtree Panic's bad future.

I would upload a picture in my scraps to show you what the scooter Eggmobile supposed to look like, but I haven't actually drawn it yet, and the only clear picture I have of it is a sketch by Mike Stearns. And I'd feel awful about uploading someone's elses work, even if I had permission.

Panel 4

- The first oh-so-subtle first glimpse of Metal Sonic. Seriously though, only the true novices of Sonic fandom would have to second guess that it's him... but what can I say? I guess I'm a sucker for "figure-in-the-shadows" suspense. Which also explains why Metal is shrouded in shadows in broad daylight.

Additionally, the Japanese manual goes on about a "blue light" shining behind Eggman during his gloating in the story. It could only be Metal Sonic. Or possibly a lens flare. I dunno.

Panel 5

- This is a much better drawing of Eggman on my part. He's looking much more like the original Watanbe illustration here. The glasses are smaller, the head looks more natural for that position and I also think the lack of a mouth helps me in making it looks extra excellent. Eggman's face always works better when you can't see his mouth. : D I think it's one of my favourite parts about his design. It's ashame that the post-1998 games don't do it that often.

Panel 6

- As with the first panel, I don't have much to say about this one, aside from the fact that it's the first appearance of the "frown wrinkle". So, you know the story has taken a turn for the serious.

---

Page 9 should be up in a few hours. Be patient with me, as I'm doing a multitude of different things at the moment.

Well, here's Sedah's redesigns. It would have been here sooner, but it took foreverrrrrrrrrrr to design her clothes. My sister and I debated back and forth endlessly on her clothing composition, with papers and drawings strewn everywhere. Finally I settled on this. For now. I may tweak it in the future if I can think of something better that still fits her personality (but I won't plague you guys with *that*! ^^).

Here's the old designs. Beware the fug. [link] [link]

Bayub's up next, then Laurent. Yaaaaay.

Well, here's Bayub. I tried to make him look more like something that would crawl up your walls and eat out of your dumptster and less...Muppet Baby-esque. [link] He was very, VERY difficult to do, so if you have any suggestions or ideas (anatomical, design, ect), I'd be happy to hear from you!

Laurent is next. OM NOM NOM NOM
