Holy LimerickThere once was a bishop of EnglandHoly Limerick7 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
Who liked to dress up for the weekend.
To the clergy's distress,
In his best Sunday dress
From the pulpit he'd weekly descend.
He'd preach about Moses and Noah
With shoulders bedecked by a boa
Of lavender feather
(To go with the pleather)
While the nuns all sang "Sweet Jehovah."
And none could deny he looked snappy,
Or kept his perishiners happy.
For he found that in lime
He looked simply devine!
(Though his sermons often were crappy.)
But bedecked by bangles that jangled
And earrings that sparkled and dangled,
He had more than enough
When he preached in the buff
To distract from the proverbs he'd mangled.
Now the church had not given up hope.
"We must find out a way we can cope!
It's not his cross dressing
That causes our stressing.
He keeps stealing the clothes of the pope!"

your knees q u a k e d like that Jenga piece
that buckled just before your whole foundation
& no matter
how many times
I've restarted your heart,
one would think
I'd grow tired,
I'm still writing you in poetry
(in the most inappropriate of places.)
You forced yourself beneath my blades
& my fingertips,
Licking unstable knees,
you were death on my tongue:
angry apricot eyes, unforgivable sin
scaring my limbs &
haunting my dreams.
& I'd still try to save your fucking life.

tattooed into the
rose garden curve
of my vertebrae,
gliding me through this wild youth.
But, like Icarus—
I was a sky conqueror
& these silk wings
touched the sun.
My inhalations are heavy,
like the earth he bruises
beneath his fingertips
as I chase silence.
"You've got a tongue
made for words." He says
against the arrogant thorns
of my briar spine.
"Learn to love yourself."
How do I say I love you
without saying I love you?
"I want to replace my heart with you."
You are spider silk woven
into my harvest moon
limbs traveling this road map
of songbird sin.
You are not just in my head now,
you are dancing in the lingering stars
of my night-witch frame
& setting me on fire.
You're not bruised enough
to write poetry.
Allow these bones to tell your story, Love.
An Ode to NothingDark kisses come from pallid lipsAn Ode to Nothing6 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
That suck into a cold embrace
Whose frozen heart and finger tips
Would trace despair upon my face.
Id clamber hot into your arms,
With earnest hopes of thawing ice,
My molten passion making way,
Hell hot and heavy fire swarms,
A burning torch to paradise,
To guide you from the dark to day.
Strike. STRIKE. The spark it flickers faint,
And so the flame is leached of light
As down Im drawn towards dawnless taint,
And doused within your endless night,
A star turned hole to rip the skies,
A maelstrom yawning wide with need
As light roars in to fill the lack,
Then sputters, trembles, fades, and dies.
So tell me what I have to feed,
What I can throw into the black,
Such emptiness, rapacious want.
How much anguish must I bleed
To pull you to rhapsodic brunt,
Abandoning vampiric greed
That swallows life but never lives?
With glacial cold and diamonds hard
So brilliant black within your sight

to slice through the thickest
of scar tissue this evening.
Let all my inner demons
fall to the floor
& write them out
in my own black blood.
It’s not red anymore,
even though needles
& the bruises
laid out like war-lands
on my arms
I don’t think it ever was,
My mind is a mess
of free versed insecurities,
cat’s eye marbles,
& untamed forest fires-
I still don’t have the nerve
to slice open my skin
& bleed for her.

sudden urge to cut
most of the time,
i just wish I were anything
other than me.
a rocket ship, a bird-
the sweet flavored smoke
I promised my girlfriend
these briar patch lungs
would not in.hale.
i have fallen in love
with the strangest of things-
eyes that intimidate
the way my scars
play hide and seek
with her hands. -
the love letters
that start and end
pressed against limbs.
i make promises
i know i can not keep.
but if i were a liar
i would say i was tired
of writing to the stars.

taking the train through nowhere
and reaching now here. We'd hoped
for such a scape of waste
land, where the sun gutters
from the sky, and our footprints measure
not distance, but scope. Where, other
than the echoes of electric exoskeletons,
hoarse codes from broken throats,
the world is mute. Colourless.
When I talk of a landscape,
I speak of this silence:
this space, this time,
and how it means forever.
An emotion bled-out,
She Who Is the Mystic MuseThere is a girl that lives in allShe Who Is the Mystic Muse6 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
She is the mystic Muse
In many guises she arrives
And will not be refused
She takes your hand, enters your mind
Manifests through the arts
Everywhere she will appear
And triumphantly departs
She is human yet she is not
Ethereal and solid is she
A thought, a face, a place, a thing
She has been seen to be a he
The Muse is subtle in her power
Her presence makes you whole
Art has come to know her well
She is the Artists Soul

or the burning gaze of her lover.
I am merely a forest of silences,
old dogwoods & untamed hair.
-But, I made a promise
to a bone collector once.
He could have my spine,
my kneecaps, &
one flowered rib,
wrapped & bowed-up
like a present
-if he could fall in love
with things that slip through his fingers:
-“It would be a sin to love you,
my dear sweet wolf;
you will always cry for the moon.”

Showered among the stars,
Like brilliant diamonds in the sky.
I hold your heart ever so tight,
I caress it with the gentlest of hands.
I wont break this precious gift,
A gift I've freely been given.
Was it Holy angels that gave you to me?
On that bright sun shiny day?
Did the Almighty know I would fall so hard?
Did He know that you were my other half?
The half I was missing without even knowing.
And is He glad that you listened to His prodding?
The sun sets to end another day,
Another day He allowed me to live and breathe.
Another day to love you compliantly.
As the golden rays fade away,
I close my eyes to dream of you.
To wonder if your dreaming too.
And will another day arise?
Or can I die with peace that you know,
How deeply I love you so?
If I go to Heaven's Throne,
Will you be happy with the love I gave?
Though until I leave this earth behind,
I'll give you all the love I have to shine.

a ghost among the sunken ship
of your treasure trove heart.
Like the last bit of rum in the jug,
I enjoy the way 'fuck' rolls off your tongue,
as if you invented its meaning.
I try to articulate that one syllable,
match your way of speech-
You've never needed to dress your words-
dip them in ink or paint them in poetry
upon the exotic map of my sun-kissed curves.
I have drowned so many times
in the green sea of your eyes
that I am coughing up seaweed
& weak bones.
You tell me not to speak-
that such words sound dirty on my tongue
that my spine is made for beauty
and not for a bounty.
But you, you are a plague
light-years at sea
and I am finding the ocean
& salty siren lips.

If you had wings and pointy teeth
And nasty bites you did bequeath,
And leached life from my every limb,
Vitality upon your whim,
Well... maybe i would like you then.
But you're as fair as fairest fair,
A rarest rose without compare,
Exuding beauty everywhere,
Enthralling, mankind's sweetest flower
Blooming beauty with your power,
... and with envy, Im made sour.
How to compete with such a jewel?
I feel a toad upon my stool,
A lowly subject neath your rule.
What is the good of flashing eyes,
A face that draws from men their sighs ?
When beauty blinks, Im food for flies.
It seems you flaunt this in my face
When pulling stars from outer space.
You gift them to me in your grace,
And offer me with sweetest smile
The chance to rest with you a while,
To hand to death a firm denial,
To be a planet 'round your sun,
Reflecting light 'til life is done,
To shine a song of what weve won
