Gaga for DadaThis weeks topic: gaga for dadaGaga for Dada3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Learning about art history can foster creativity, give us a better understanding of art, and inspire us to go beyond our limits. Over the next few months, I am going to be periodically publishing articles about different schools and styles from the Modernist period. I hope these articles not only help you gain a better understanding of history but inspire and challenge you. Thank you for reading.
what is dadaism?
Design is History EXPLAINS IT AS:
"Dada was a cultural movement that was concentrated on anti-war politics which then made its way to the art world through art theory, art manifestoes, literature, poetry and eventually graphic design and the visual arts. The movement, although Dadaists would not have been happy calling it a movement, originated in Switzerland and spread across Europe and into the United States, which was a safe haven for many writers during World War I.
An anti-art movement, Dad

DeviantArtist Questionnaire1. How long have you been on Deviantart?DeviantArtist Questionnaire1 month ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Probably about 5 - 8 years via my old account to my new account.
2. What does your username mean?
I like technology, especially when it comes to robots. Part of it is the assumption that Robots and other AI's can have dreams (think AI Artificial Intellegence, and IRobot) So if they have dreams why not nightmares? That's not very deep, but in reality 99% of the reason I chose this name was because it looked cool.
3. Describe yourself in three words.
Fat, anxious, cyborg
4. Are you left or right handed?
Right, but my hand didn't develop correctly so I can't hold my pencil normally. (it really makes me anxious when people in rl point it out but it doesn't bother me to talk about it privately)
5. What was your first Deviation?
Years ago when I first joined it was an MSPaint d
Doing Comics Professionally (best/worst idea)I remember back in Highschool I had this vision of what I was going to be doing with comics. I had these grandiose ideas that I'd land some graphic novel gig that was "Hollywood famous" and I'd be rolling in the dough, signing autographs for adoring fans, lights, camera, action--etc. ...and I did that, actually. I landed a Hollywood-famous graphic novel gig. I wasn't rolling in the dough but I had made more money than I'd ever seen in my entire lifetime, considering that I was of the below average - minimum wage working class up until that point. I went to cons by my own admission. I didn't have big companies sponsoring me so the funding usually came out of my own pockets. And there were a few fans of my work who I did live commissions for (thankyou guys, I was able to eat for another week). Dream accomplished right? ...but I ask myself was it worth it. Well, yes and I have a few regrets.Doing Comics Professionally (best/worst idea)11 months ago in Personal More Like This

HEY GUYS SUPER HUGE NEWSSINCE THE DAWN OF MY COMICS CAREER (roughly five years ago) I've amassed tons of personal comic pages. And I'm not talking about the current 216 pages of Sakana, I'm talking about ALL THE OTHER COMIC PAGES I've managed to accrue in that time.HEY GUYS SUPER HUGE NEWS3 years ago in Personal More Like This
And I've been thinking for a while that I'd like to bring all those together in a big ol' fun book of stupid one-shots, minicomics, class projects, and series that never really got off the ground, or are still waiting for that fabled day far in the future where I will have the free time and financial stability to just sit down and draw every single comic I ever thought up.
SO ANYWAYS the big news is that I've begun pulling old pages out from under my bed, and leafing through my old portfolios, and scouring my external harddrive for anything that I've ever done that even resembles a comic (and some are pretty janky, lemme tell you) because I want to PUT THEM ALL IN A BIG BOOK. AND SELL IT.
If you're a fan of my webcomic Sakana, perhaps you'd like t

It Seems Many People Gravely Misconstrue FeminismI have encountered many people who seem to think that "feminist" means "hates men."It Seems Many People Gravely Misconstrue Feminism4 years ago in Personal More Like This
It doesn't. Feminism means believing that women are equal to men, and thus should have the same rights. It's not trying to take anything away from men; it's trying to give both genders the same privileges, the natural rights that every human being deserves. Neither men nor women should be owned by or own one another, neither should be above the other in social station just because of their gender.
A lot of self-proclaimed "anti-feminists" seem to be arguing against something completely different: "misandry," the hatred of men (the male counterpart of misogyny). True feminism in no way condones misandry.
EDIT: Holy cow, I did not expect this to elicit so much response! Wow.
7 Tips To Instantly Become A Better ArtistPractice, practice, practice. Gah.7 Tips To Instantly Become A Better Artist3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Attend life drawing classes over the summer. Blegh.
Take a sketchbook with you everywhere you go, and fill up ten of those bad boys at the coffee shop. Pfft.
Let's be honest here. We all want to become better artists, like, right frickin' now. We don't even want to have to suffer through hour-long tutorials of some pompous snooty hack bloviating over the intricate methods of drawing eyes on YouTube. We want progress, we want improvement, and we want it on our desk in ten minutes ago!
Fine, fine, I hear ya'. While these aren't going to make an instant Leonardo da Vinci out of you, these might get you up to...ehh...Basquiat caliber. Sure, I've made tutorials, but those are more about setting up Photoshop for the sake of coloring an image, and not so much building yourself artistically. Those are more technical lessons. Artistically

What's your favorite cute animal?
Right now it's a tie between Alpaca, Pomeranian, Hagfish, and Komodo Dragon. If they combined all three I am sure it would be the cutest, most poisonous creature on the planet.
What's your favorite creepypasta, if not..

2. What does your username mean?
Katy is a name of Scotch origin. 133 is a number that I keep seeing in my life.
3. Describe yourself in three words.
Cute macabre art.
4. Are you left or right handed?
5. What was your first deviation?
I do not speak of that art piece anymore.
The reason why I don't talk about it isn't because I don't like it or because I'm "ashamed" of it, but because of how much attention it seems to ironically get (due to its "so-bad-it's-good" factor) compared to my current work. People also tend to reblog/post it without sourcing me, so I won't even be given credit for this artwork. And since it's not sourced, it's also not dated, and therefor people don't realise that it was f
