Black MarchHay guys, remember SOPA and PIPA and all that?Black March3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well the music and film industries keep pushing for new laws, so it doesn't look like anyone's getting a break yet.
The assclown that came up with SOPA has now written up PCIPA, or "Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers".
Yup, preventing piracy wasn't a good enough excuse apparently, so now they're using child porn as an excuse to censor the internet and monitor everyone.
At least ACTA looks like it's gonna get kicked out by the EU pretty soon, due to all the protests and petitions.
Politicians may be corrupted and senile as fuck, but if enough people threaten to get them voted out of power, well they can't really argue with that. So keep spreading the word, join protests and at least sign some petitions.
Finally, to fight back against the music, film and other industries that are pushing these laws, you should join Black March and not buy any media for the rest of this month. Don't go see any movies, don't buy any CDs, DVDs or v
On the Morality of forcing RevolutionEdit: I'm done commenting on this rambling mess. On later thought, I should've put a large disclaimer at the top saying that forcing revolution isn't the only way to achieve communism, but ONE way. I'm all for a spontaneous uprising of the proletariat. Trust me on that. I'd rather it be peaceful as well, but I doubt capitalists will ever simply give up their power sans a fight. Now, I'm off to get some sleep because I'm way too fucking tired to debate anymore. On the Morality of forcing Revolution3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I think too much. Sometimes lunch can take me several minutes of opening and closing numerous doors in some attempt to spur an idea on when, really, I should just eat a salad and call it a day. However, I spend most of my time thinking about communism instead of, you know, cats or trying not to stare at people as I walk along. Today I was pondering the morality of forcing revolution on the masses. Could such a thing ever be considered moral? I believe that yes it can if, and only if, proper circumstances are met.

FergusonFirst off, I wanna state that I am not a journalist. This whole ordeal has been extremely messy and filled with a lot of conflicting information, so chances are what I write here might not be 100% accurate or be based on slightly incorrect information. I’ll do my best to explain it simply, but if you really want to know what’s going on it’s probably best to just google it yourself because... really... this is a mess. I'm sure plenty of other people will add info in the comments below or links to appropriate videos/tweets.Ferguson11 months ago in Personal More Like This
What happened here in Missouri
It all started when a cop shot an unarmed black teenager named Michael Brown for “jaywalking” in Ferguson, Missouri. Witnesses say Michael Brown, 18, had raised his hands to surrender when the shots were fired. Police have not confirmed that information.
Shortly afterwards a group of people approached the police department in peaceful protest and demanded answers and information, a lot of

MY PATREON IS A GO!Well here it is! I’ve finally launched my Patreon!MY PATREON IS A GO!5 months ago in Personal More Like This
You can find my Patreon at the following link: https://www.patreon.com/ADobsonComics
Over the past 10 years I’ve worked on a lot of different projects. But unfortunately I’ve gradually had to move away from making comics for myself, and focus more on Freelance work... which I do not enjoy doing. And that’s where this Patreon, and you, come in!
Patreon is a simple and cheap way to help make that dream a reality once more. Think of it as a tip-jar! By pledging a little bit of money each month you can help me get back into making comics and art for everyone to enjoy!
You can pledge as much or as little as you want, and trust me, even one dollar would be helping out a lot! I want to stress this as much as possible: it is OK if you can’t pledge anything! I don’t want anyone to think that I’m FORCING you to help me out. All the work I produce through this Patreon will eventually be

Below you'll find a list of tutorials I personally think of as the best on dA. If I have any problems with painting something I usually take a look at one of those.
Is there anything you're having troubles with? Need help looking for a good tutorial? Or maybe you'd like to see a video walk-through of me painting something?
I'm open for suggestions for what kind of tutorial/walk-through you'd like to see from me. If you're interested in anything, post your suggestions in the comments!

It's been a long time since we've had a drawing challenge around here, so let's do something that will test your skills AND help the general drawing community!
As many of you probably know, finding references for multiple people can be tough. It's also a good exercise to compose multiple figures into one image! This challenge aims to both help you practice your multi-figure skills AND help the community have more resources for this type of composition!
How To Enter!
Create a line art drawing with 5 or more full body figures together using SenshiStock images as the reference.
Submit your composition under the Resources & Stock Images -> Line-art & Character Templates section, OR the appropriate pixel base section, with a Creative Commons license. In the Artist's Comments, link to the Sen
DA's Insular Taste PhenomenonIt's been quite a while since I wrote a preachy "THINK ABOUT YO' ART"-type journal, and some of my newer watchers may not know that this is a particular(ly annoying) habit of mine. This is a subject I've had on my mind for quite some time for a number of reasons, and it's recently coalesced into a semi-soluble form so here we go. (As an aside- this journal does have some recycled ideas from a previous post of mine, but obviously I hadn't really said everything I wanted to on the subject.)DA's Insular Taste Phenomenon3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's no mystery that I love this website. I came in at the tail end of the pre-critique wonder years, when the internet discovered and exploited that, yes, we don't always produce the highest quality art here. There's a lot of unpleasantness directed towards DeviantArt. At RISD, I made a point to never mention that I had an account here, because of the looks of disgust I would get haha and people would think about me differently. It was

I don't usually do call out threads, but today I'm feeling sassy. Besides, the subject of this journal, TomPreston, blocked me a while back. I guess for being a "troll"?
I had seen his comics on the front page nearly every day and didn't think much of them, however after he wrote A Harsh Lesson I began to critique his work. Partially because I wanted to see if he'd practice what he preached (he doesn't) but mostly because he has the ear of many young artists and is sending them many bad messages. Over time critiquing him became an exercise for myself on the nature of comic making, and I got into interesting conversations with various people in the course of posting them.
I stuck to mostly his long-form comic work, and stuck mostly to critiquing writing and occasionally the art.
It came to a point where he seeme

Inventor of Implantable Pacemaker
Dies at 92
By BARNABY FEDER
Published: September 28, 2011 on The New York Times
Wilson Greatbatch, a professed “humble tinkerer” who, working in his barn in 1958,
designed the first practical implantable pacemaker, a device that has preserved millions of lives,
died on Tuesday at his home in Williamsville, N.Y. He was 92.
His death was confirmed by his daughter, Anne Maciariello.
Mr. Greatbatch patented more than 325 inventions,
notably a long-life lithium battery used in a wide range of medical implants.
He created tools used in AIDS research and a solar-powered canoe,
which he took on a 160-mile voyage on the Finger Lakes in New York to celebrate his 72nd birthday.
In later years, he invested time

Bernie Sanders for president?http://www.thenation.com/blog/178717/bernie-sanders-i-am-prepared-run-president-united-states#Bernie Sanders for president?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! If Bernie Sanders decides to officially run for president I would just simply die of happiness. However, the idea of him actually WINNING the election is still far fetched. Though he's made some pretty amazing accomplishments in his previous elections, on a national level, his label as a democratic socialist could severely weaken his chances in winning. However, Bernie Sanders has strong support among the left here in America so I believe he can go pretty far.
Basic idea of Bernie's policies. http://www.ontheissues.org/house/Bernie_Sanders.htm
While I disagree with him on guns as I'm a HUGE avid gun supporter, I'm a big supporter for just about everything else he stands for.
While I know we have right-wing supporters within this group, I'm interested to hear your guys' opinions on this besides the left or centrists.
Fight back against the NSAWe understand the United States to be a democracy, founded upon a Constitution that affords us critical rights, and governed by therule of law.Fight back against the NSA1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Yet for years, the NSA has exploited secret legal interpretations to undermine our privacy rights -- thus chilling speech and activism, and thereby threatening to subvert the very underpinnings of our democracy itself.
We are demanding that decision makers remedy this by:
Passing the USA FREEDOM Act, which would end the bulk collection of Americans' phone records and institute other key reforms.
Defeating the so-called FISA Improvements Act, which would entrench -- and potentially expand -- the spying.
Creating additional privacy protections for non-Americans.
Ending the NSA's subversion of encryption and other data security measures.
And we're not even that far from winning on at least one key front:
The USA FREEDOM Act has more than 100 bipartisan sponsors, including two

A Bay TMNT rant + And a Plea from TomPrestonOne of the things that irritates the crap out of me is when people say “sometimes I just like to turn my brain off and enjoy a good explosion.” This has been cropping up a lot lately in the wake of the new Michael Bay produced TMNT movie, and I can’t tell you how pissed it makes me.A Bay TMNT rant + And a Plea from TomPreston11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Here’s the thing... turning your brain off doesn’t mean having to give up on competent filmmaking. I would argue that pretty much ALL of the Marvel movies so far have been mindless popcorn entertainment. None of the plots are “challenging,” they general don’t tackle “big existential themes,” and they’re littered with amazing set pieces and action sequences. The reason the Marvel movies succeed is because they’re competently put together.
It’s the difference between a McDonalds burger and one at a real restaurant. Both are probably bad for you health wise, but the one at a real restaurant is gonna look and taste so much better. And
