Dida - Part 8 - Conclusion
My head suddenly felt hot. I reached out from the cliff. And who exactly are you talking to?
I am not Dida. Dida is my friend my computer.
I put some distance between myself and her. If youre trying to mess with my mind and make me believe things which are not true, then you should just leave now.
She folded her hands in front of her. The mess was already between Aides mind and your organizing control. I am not trying to make you believe anything but rather attempting to reintroduce genuine reality to you in such a way that the ties binding you and Aide can be successfully separated.
I booted the couch with my foot. I cant believe this is Kary trying to pull some sort of experiment now?...
Kary Glossian is only trying to save his brothers life.
After all Id seen, that sounded laughably-impossible to me. But then, if all Id seen had been muddied an

Dee laid out a hand. I was born female. My aunt is Cerys Newid. Our boss.
Korris mouth dipped open. Confusion reigned in her thoughts. She slowly shook her head. What why how?
Dee shrugged. I have a means of remaining male while I work which Cerys provided me.
All the air seemed to have seeped out of Korris words. Softly, she asked, Why are you telling me all this?
Dee lowered his hand. Because of what you said and what I said.
Korri kept her eyes on Dee. You lied.
Dees body tensed. I dont lie. People just never ask the right questions. She watched his eyes. They didnt waver. They looked right back at her.
Korri dipped her head away. Whatever. What now?

The customer sighed roughly and rummaged through his wallet. Korri creaked her chair and tapped the side of it like a drum.
Picking through his wallet, the man grumbled with exasperation and asked, Why do you need a receipt anyway?
Dee stretched over to tap a laminated piece of paper affixed to the counter and said, Store policy. Its just standard. Paper had the normal policy notes but also included a few that mentioned incidental consequences where the store was not culpable.
I bought this here.
Dee gave a nod which he tried to keep from looking skeptical. But it was without the automatic enthusiasm of a few hours ago.
While the customer checked around for the receipt, Dee looked through the store catalogue for pillows. He kept to the mental effects section and eventually found an index text listing that touted a product with the ability to give gende

Dee Wright sighed as he finished tidying the desk. Hed finished with dusting, mopping, organizing, and not a single customer had come in for some time. He cracked his neck gently and settled into his chair. The industrial fan in the corner oscillated a few times. He rapped his fingers on the wood of the table. Just three hours left in his shift.
Despite the occasional boredom, he enjoyed working in the back. It was like his own little world. It was much better than being out there somewhere in the rest of store. He liked the owner but he knew she definitely had some quirks. Like the fact she opened a store which sold gender-bending products.
It was a dangerous place if one wished to remain the same gender. Despite those pitfalls, Dee had managed, in sixteen months, never to be affected by a single one of the store products. A record he held alone among the staff. Most employees were turned within a month at most.
The air from the fan brushed at his cap with the store l

Dee looked over to Korri, who slumped into her chair. Korri shrugged. Her mom looked at her and asked, So being turned into a girl isnt very interesting anymore, huh?
Korri slouched. Not particularly. I mean its not like I suddenly became someone else.
Regina held her hands. I wonder some days...
Korri rotated her shoulders a little. Likewise, mom.
She gave Korri a lingering look and asked, So mind if I sit a while?
What for, mom?
Regina held her hands out innocently. Im just here to visit my child.
Im working right now. Didnt you say you had a class?

Then he blinked and asked, Receipt?
The man pulled a long, white receipt out of his jeans pocket. Korri took it and passed it to Dee. The customers name was given as Olivia Morgan. Korri brought a chair over so the customer could sit, draped the blanket across his front for privacy, and asked him, Could you tell us what happened?
Olivia adjusted his pants and the blanket a little, trying to find a comfortable position, then began, I was shopping in the area for some things to give as a gift to my niece. Shes heading off on her own next month. She told me she could really use a vacuum for her apartment. And I know she has some really bad girl troubles. And

The operators voice was soft but rough, like it rose up then sliced through the air like a knife. I was hoping you would call. How have you been?
Dee let his smile go. I have a customer who had unintended consequences with an item.
The operator laughed. The good kind or the bad kind?

Dee glanced at the girl in the pink top and asked her, How do you feel?
Her eyes flicked over at him but she kept her gaze on the game. She muttered, Not very great. Im actually kinda sick to my stomach but I cant stop playing. She clicked the shoulder buttons.
Dee leaned out with the tongs but turned to look at Korri and asked her, What do you suggest?

I first found the lake by accident. It was spring. Id just bought a new hiking outfit and had been hiking in the hills near town for several hours. I was just about to start back for home when I saw a clearing. The grass was tall and the trees were close. I sat down beside a still, deep lake and filled my water canteen.
Then, I bent over the water and splashed my face a little. I was surprised by how warm it felt on my skin. I dried my face with a rough rag in my pocket. As it rubbed my face, the roughness slowly changed to smoothness.
I shouldve felt the rag brushing against my three-day growth of facial hair. I held it and looked at it. It wasnt my rough rag anymore. It shined off the afternoon sun with bright sparkles. It looked like satin.
Turning it around in my hands revealed that my hands had changed as well. My first reaction was to jerk and shake, to cast off these strange hands like a pair of gloves. They remained there with their long, pearl-l

However, several matters must be resolved before proceeding further. It would easy to examine the later lives of Harper Melvang and Codie Hewitt after this series of incidents became an overall trend and trace the myriad of sources with their reflections and thoughts. The same would be true of looking up the studies and examinations in search of causes and explanations.
Such information would satiate numerous questions of a scientific and historical nature. But it would leave a fundamental and staggering question.
The why of the intangible.
That is the purpose of my words.
And so, after the parting of Harper and Codie following the first incident, each returned to their dorms with different ideas about what may have occurred.
For Harper, strange and nebulous feelings drifted through her thoughts. Her feelings about seeing Codie as a girl seemed to resurface in her quiet reflectio

Dark sounds surrounded me in the blackness. Gnashing and beating. Wet and thick. My imagination shuddered. There was roughness all around.
Finally, I was thrown into a wall and something shut behind me. My teeth vibrated a bit and my nose felt crushed. I coughed in the bag and fumbled for it.
My hands hadnt been tied. I had to figure that was next. But the soldiers or whatever they were roared amongst themselves and thundered away.
When a moist, dripping silence returned I fumbled for the bag around my head. After a good bit of tugging, I was able to split the seam. That only got me so far before I worked at the knot. It was complex but I didnt really have anything else to do.
Even with the split seam, there was only enough light to know there were stone walls all around with only the dimmest of torch-light filtering in from somewhere far away. A rancid smell filtered through the torn seam.

I cut through the dense forest. Branches were broken along the way. I worried after a while that they intentionally wanted me to follow them. But I had no other choice. I ducked around trees as quickly as possible.
I was fast but not fast enough to catch a glimpse of them. After a while, it seemed they were getting more careful. There were less signs of their direction but still enough for me to pick up. My heart was racing but Yuji wouldnt let it overtake me. He was going to be strong for his brother. He was going to show him how much hed learned and how much hed done.

Codie Hewitt and Harper Melvang sat one row across from one another in their Introduction to Liberal Studies class. Then they had adjacent dorms. They even passed each other in the halls on seventeen separate occasions.
Codie's roommate pointed Harper out to him once but Codie brushed away his dense, black hair from curling at his neck and said something non-committal. While Harper's sister said 'hi' to Codie and several times called him 'cute', she did not truly notice him throughout her entire freshman year of college.
But then came to pass their Introduction to Psychology class. By happenstance, the two picked the third row on the right side of the class. They both picked it for similar reasons. It was close enough to see all the board materials and it was also not at the front where they were likely to be called on constantly. Also, it happened to have clear access to the exit.
Both sat. Both set d

This was mostly drowned out by the soccer game playing in one corner, a game of eight-ball in another, the clatter of a pinball machine, and the ending strains of a ubiquitous rock song from the speakers in the ceiling. Where I Have Plenty To Think About
Fortunately, Psychology was my only class in Longbloom Hall. This was good because it was on the far side of the campus from the dorms. My other classes were in the much closer Dixon Hall.
Once outside, I grabbed a coffee from the nearest cart vendor. Aside from being the furthest, Psychology was also the earliest for me and it let out too late for breakfast and too early for a decent lunch.
Still, as I stood there and sipped, I considered whether to head back to my room for noodles or to wait on the cafeteria or the café serving anything that wouldn't require I use actual money.
After some thought and the voice going on about needing to "learn the layout", I took a walk around the center of the campus. There were about five main roads that divided things up and it was about a square kilometer in size (according to the info on their website and including land to grow).
The new athletics center had just been
