_______________________________________

ive been doing alot of artwork with politics and issues that stir up alot of controversy (i dont really care about spelling right now) and issues that are important to me. This, is one of them. the killing of American pit bull terriers because they are 'dangerous'. i wont lie to you. alot, if not most pit bulls are what is called dog aggressive say it with me kids. D-O-G Aggressive see? they are NOT human aggressive say it with me again. NOT H-u-m-a-n aggressive there is a difference. Pit bulls were bred for gameness, which is basically their will to not give up during a fight. these 'bull' breeds did just what their name says, they were used to bait bulls and bears and other wild animals for entertainment in the early years of this (the united states) country. After this was banned, these dogs were turned against each other for a cruel and unusual form of entertainment and betting (much like cockfighting).

In the later part of the 20th century, pit bulls became easier to come by. Gang members started getting their hands on them and breeding them, without checking any type of lineage, for fighting purposes only. and to make money. These poorly bred and poorly trained dogs are not accustomed to people. they are skittish and often malnourished and never socialized as puppies and therefor not used to people. This is why THOSE dogs are more likely to go after people. Isn't any poorly trained, malnourished, skittish dog apt to bite a person? i'd think so..

These dogs are being ruthlessly discriminated against by politicians, the media and government officials. many cities have bans on these animals. in Michigan, the humane society has a No Pit bull policy. they euthanize pit bulls and refuse to adopt them out.

Any dog attack is assumed to be done by a pit bull. the media often gives wrong information, further pulling down any hope to save the good reputation of the breed. You are just as likely to be bitten by a German Shepherd Dog or a ChowChow as a Pit. And dont even get me started on white Doberman pincers. criminy.

sorry for the long description. i had a rant.

This was an animation for one of my animation classes here at Columbia. We were required to put a purpose behind a walk cycle and had to show three different emotions.

This took a looooooong, long time for me.

APPRECIATE IT! :XD:

(Sorry about the category if anyone cares. DA won't let me submit Flash files into the Traditional Animation category, and I don't want you guys to have to click Download in order to see the animation)

It's oil on watercolor paper. 12"x18"

The title is: "Banned Pit Bull #1,000,023 Enters Heaven"

I get a lot of questions about this artwork, so here's what i had to say to one person doing a paper about BSL:

I only had my pit bull for about 3 years. I had never met any other purebred pit bulls, but i thought they were beautiful dogs, and I had spent a lot of time with "aggressive" breeds as a child, and they were always sweet dogs. I had a Doberman, a Mastiff, an Akita, and a Rottweiler around when i was growing up and all of them were dependable dogs. Also, I had adopted several of a litter of 8 abandoned pitbull/St.Bernard mixes as puppies and had placed them all in homes that they still live in, with no aggression problems.

I got my pit bull in Houston. I traded 2 artworks to a breeder in Minneapolis who flew her out to me. I socialized her really well. She absolutely loved any person, and any dog (not to mention she was very trustworthy will small animals and birds). I can honestly say she was the friendliest dog I've ever had. Maybe because I socialized her so much as a puppy, I don't know. My family owns a lot of Jack Russells and they are way, way more prone to aggression than pit bulls.

Then I moved back to Colorado, and I had her there when Denver passed a ban against possession of pit bulls. Every shelter within a hundred miles filled up with pit bulls, and they were euthanizing hundreds of people's family pets. It was disgusting.

I didn't know what to do with my dog, Genesis, so i took her way up in the mountains where I knew of this no-kill-shelter. When i brought her in they said "no way, no more pit bulls. We have too many, and wont be able to place the ones we have." But I was really persistent, talking to them about how well trained my dog was.

She was crate trained, obedience trained. She would stand still on the edge of a table to have her nails trimmed and ears cleaned out, and she would jump in the bathtub to vomit, instead of doing it on the carpet whenever she got sick.

So the woman who owned and managed that shelter offered to give her a "temperament test". And she took her back and came out with her 20 minutes later and said, "This is a good dog, I'll take her home." And that was it. As far as I know, that woman still has Genesis as her own pet. I heard that the lady has 2 St.Bernards that Genesis lives with, and the only problem they have is that Genesis licks their ears so much that the skin gets dry.

I never had any negative reactions from people in public. I think people don't really know what a pit bull looks like. They don't think they can be cute. They only recognize one if their ears are cut. My dog had her ears and she was really beautiful. and she had very happy, submissive body language. and I would tell people that she was a Lab/Boxer mix, which people believe because if she was a pit bull she would be mean and ugly, right?

I don't think people will ever really understand them. They want to be afraid of things. The only thing that will help is very stiff legislation and enforcement against people who abuse dogs. And also against the breeders who sell dogs to those people. A good breeder wont sell a dog to a person that will abuse it, or fight it. They can tell. They ask lots of questions. If people who abuse dogs had to pay large fines, and the breeders were regulated in some way there wouldn't be this problem.

It wouldn't be difficult to do either. You can go on the website of any breeder and see which kind of dog they're trying to breed. Good breeders select for good temperament. They show their dogs in regular dog shows and events like agility. They get certifications for their studs, like "Canine Good Citizen" and they keep their dogs in their houses, not tied individually in kennels or staked behind their houses. Also, they charge a lot of money per puppy, and ask a lot of questions about the new owner. All of these things are very important.

So that is what is needed to solve the problem, not legislation against the dogs, but regulation of the breeding and selling of the dogs. . . There are ways to do this.

So that's my 2 cents. Hope it's helpful.

THIS IS THE FIRST DEBUT OF THE YELLOW NOSELESS CAT WITH ROUND WHITE EYES AND WIELDS A PARANG's FLASH, THE FLASH WHICH STARTED IT ALL...... LOL

I resubmit to alter minor stuff....
Finally up....
but its a very big file of 4MB....
even if u think 4MB is no big deal, my flash lasted only for like 2 to 3mins depending on how u play it....which is a BIG issue....like, if a 4MB flash, should last for 8mins or so, but my 4MB flash lasted only bout 2mins....

all because of this frame by frame thing... Can anyone who do frame by frame animations, tell me how to compress ur movie file size cause this is too ridiculous for such a short animation with such a big file size, there are no songs in it ecxcept for a loop midi wave file and effects only, Every thing is done frame by frame.

and yah...please click the DL arrow button if u dont want to see anything weird happening in this flash, cause from my experience, button scripts will tend to go crazy if the flash is watch within the DA interface.....its best u DL it......

and yes...its a 18+ mature animation due to explict blood and gore and violence....most at the last scene actually...;)

So, here it is! I did a couple changes according to what people suggested. I apologize for the weird "black" frames in this.. It has something to do with how I was stacking and multiplying the layers, or perhaps it had something to do with the brightness/contrast settings I used.. Either way, it's just a pencil test.. I'll be rid of those black frames in the final version.

I decided to encode it as an mpeg1, so it can be viewed with both Quicktime and Windows Media Player, and also the sound file is at 100% quality. Now let's just hope DevaintART accepts mpeg1

The sound clip is from Sifl and Olly

And it's four megs, so you dialup folks might want to go make yourselves a sandwich..
