In order to be an expert at ethics, one must transcend the legal and sanctioned religious "appropriate truths" of the day in order to access the meta-truth of both legality and righteousness.
In other words, the biggest difference between the average "what if you're wrong?" fearfully faithful believer as opposed to the average reasonable and truth seeking freethinker, is that when faced with questions such as the all-too-common, Christian go-to hypothetical, "What if you're wrong about God?
