So cold this morning. Walking to my location in Gaswork Park all I could see is frost on the grass and the concrete. I was late getting out there this morning so I did not capture the sun coming up over the city but the clarity of the sky and the air was just perfect. I was going to call it a day and turn around and go back home but I said what the hey. Go thing I didn’t cause this was one of the better shoots this year. I got 4 good shots out of this one but I need to crop the second pano down to fit the print sizes. But I was able to get the normal 3 image HDR and a 6 image HDR and the pano is a 9 image photomerge HDR.

This morning I want to capture the city blanked by fog from Dr. Rizal Bridge in Beacon Hill. I also want to reduce the noise that I have been getting in my images. The cleanup is what takes me so long to edit. So I set my camera for an ISO of 200 with the Noise Reduction enabled and off I went.

The problem with shooting from this bridge on a weekday during rush out is the buses that shake it as they cross. So I had to do a bit of timing to capture the longer exposures of 30 sec. Still, I weekday is best for this kind of shoot in the morning because you can capture the motion of the light trails during rush hour, a weekday evening would be good to and maybe warmer. I plan to go back again when the fog clears and reshoot.

Post-Process: I picked up a few new tools or plug-ins for Photoshop a while ago. I took the time today to learn then and use them. Dfine was a big help in cleaning the noise. The 200 ISO and Noise Reduction helps but this program RAWKS!!! Also, sharpener Pro 3.0 (Output), I didn’t think I needed but I was turned on when I tested it.

Ok Damn this is one that took me all day to put together but it did teach me something. This was shoot as a pano I merged 4 image of 6 images each into this one pano. I am finding that more is better with HDR. But OH CRAP this took a lot out of me.
First I will never do a pano unless I need to and... AND I will be test to see if 6 images for HDR is better than 12 in the morning. I am not happy with the 2 that I am posting today but I can tell you I know how to make them better.

This is the first shot of the new year for me... Well the one that I liked.

Process: This is a 2 image pano from a 6 image HDR.
3 images from the left at F11 ranging from 1/6 to 3 sec exposure. For the right side F11 from 1/4 to 4 sec. The right side was a bit darker so I had to adjust for the light. Focal Length was 26 mm with my 18-55 mm Nikkor.

Seattle from Gaswork Park

Well the fog shut me down this morning so I am posting my test shots from yesterday morning. This is a 9 image HDR. I have found that this number not only set the sharpness but makes the color rich.
