Overdue UpdatesA lot has changed since my last post in August. I'll start locally, where it's been greatest. My oldest surviving friend came to visit in September, and liked what he saw enough to move here permanently. He's benefited from all the things I didn't have in 2010 – two friends who had moved beforehand, a secure, drug-free residence, and a knowledgeable local guide who doubles as a confidant. He's still had to deal with the usual stresses of managing savings, finding work, dealing with government agencies and kicking an old vice or two; but on the whole he's done very well. Two months on he's working for a worthwhile cause, in contrast to me and my other ex-flatmate (I've moved out, but more on that later) and has made some positive lifestyle changes. He's also helped me with computer troubles, cooked a few impressive meals and shared some pop culture I've missed out on (Spartacus, The Borgias, and movies of variable quality).Overdue Updates1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Belated UpdatesI haven't been online much lately owing to an insane workload - eight hours plus a day, seven days a week, for the best part of a month - and limited computer access. I've been out a lot as well, getting as much as I can of the longer nights and colder weather. I've managed to kick the nastier habits I'd picked up over the last year, though I'm still horribly caffeine-dependent. Luckily, in this part of the world, it's almost as easy to find as meth (a vice I'm not about to try).Belated Updates1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The standard kit includes a sketchbook that's been filling up with drawings, mostly character concepts for a new "Scorched Earth" series. This scenario's evolved over time, and I'm edging further towards a more low-tech, grungy aesthetic, and away from the high-tech robotics and futuristic weaponry (expect more of these last two in Necromechanics). There'll also be more emphasis on the culture, customs and landscape of the post-apocalyptic world, and instead of basic archetypes I'll be creating personalities.
Horizons New and OldI haven't posted much lately, but I've got some good excuses. The problems I'd been having with a housemate in Fitzroy were edging towards a spectacular climax the local tabloids would have loved. As I had no desire to feature in them I did the right thing and walked out. I spent a few weeks interstate, catching up with friends in NSW. I could use a lot of words describing the experience, but to keep things brief, I'll say most of the old crew are comfortably living in the same homes, working for the same employers, and seeing the same partners as they were on my last visit. Some cats and children have grown bigger, but not a lot more has changed.Horizons New and Old2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I got a lot of reading done. Ramona had lent me some trashy supernatural novels that kept my attention for 1000km, but on arriving in Sydney I bought some quality non-fiction that I read and passed on as rent for couch space. For anyone who's interested, two of them ("Life at the Bottom" and "The New Vichy Syndrome") were by Theodore Darymple
Positive DevelopmentsI don't have a lot to report, but most of it is pretty good. I've had a surprisingly tolerable Easter, avoided one party I wanted to, and attended one much closer to home when my landlady turned 24 (at least according to herself). This meant a massive influx of visitors from all over the Balkans, most of whom were much older than me, vast amounts of alcohol and some insanely good folk music. I started with four shots of whiskey and in the next few hours exchanged more words with my fellow boarders than I have since I first moved in. I got to hear the usual accounts of what a disaster Eastern Europe was under communism, what a disaster it is now, and how good Australia is by comparison. If the soup kitchens around Fitzroy qualify as good that's a sad indictment on old Marx.Positive Developments2 years ago in Personal More Like This
My only slip-up was an impulsive "Prost" long after I'd lost count of drinks - the old Polish guy looked daggers at me, but it gave my landlady a good laugh. I also pulled out my folio and shared it with the other bo
Fun and GamesIt hasn't been long since my last post, but life's been filled with dramas lately. I'm not after sympathy as the ones I'm facing personally are entirely my fault; they're also insignificant compared to what others are dealing with.Fun and Games2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'll start with the ones closest to home. I'm currently trying to get enthused about what has to be one of the least inspiring commissions I've ever had. This one came from a housemate who knocked on my door at around 0100 with no prior warning and asked for a new business card. I was wide awake, of course, but I obviously wasn't thinking straight because I stupidly said yes. I'm now expected to draw a knight that's "you know, sort of Arthurian, but different, like your style, but not evil or anything," and I just can't find the motivation when I've got so much else to do. I've tried to explain this to him but he can't seem to fathom the concept of "no" from someone who's already said "yes." He also expects me to work for free because his company's called "B

1st off, put away your snowflake porn, winter is over... \sicko\... that being said,
There is /b/ a rapidly expanding paradox within the scientific community that has been dubbed 'the singularity';
simply put, it is the rise of machines from mindless constructs to fully sapient organisms. (Moar specifically it is the eventual rise of a singular construct bearing intellect that equals the ENTIRE human race - but we are simply concerned with sapience and mote conscious at this hour..) Science fiction has covered elements of this subject in many forms, from tasteful compositions such as 'i Robot' to lesser artistic productions such as 'Stealth'. It is ironic that 'Stealth' is closer to the truth than the majority of these films. Behold, your (if applicable) military's 'Great' plan:

I want to get good enough at drawing, people would buy Commissions via Paypal.
I want to get better at gesture drawing. (Poses and rough drawings are hard for me to master.)
Learn how to make folds on clothes look more flowy and 3-D.
Write more often.
Find a job or part-time job so I can get out and keep my mind distracted.
Not be so hard on myself.
Stop forcing myself to draw. Do it when you feel like it.
Try new things.

Copyrighting and Licensing your artI found this article interesting and I felt I should share it. Sure, it's from 2008, but I believe it's still viable. Essentially, everything you draw is copyrighted to you automatically. If you are like me and sometimes worry about having to watermark your art or protect yourself in any way, you may find this interesting: http://emptyeasel.com/2008/03/18/copyright-information-for-artists-how-copyright-laws-protect-your-art/Copyrighting and Licensing your art2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Terror is RealityIf you've been following Internet events, you may have noticed SOPA and PIPA. Those have been crushed under the fist of the users and public decisively despite resistance from proponents.Terror is Reality2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now...what could be worse than censoring the internet?
Well how about your service provider watching over your every move on the Web?
How about mega-powerful corporations passing laws on an international level without your explicit representation?
What if they formulated a plan like this underneath the table out of our prying eyes?
What if they could conduct their own official investigations, restrict, censor and control the flow of information?
What if they became an unofficial international trust bound not by contract, but through the mutual sharing of your information?
Say hello to ACTA, an international agreement being proposed in 39 countries.

So tonight I was curling. Even now my hands are a fairly cool. Hurling those full-moon rocks was quite the endeavor. To be honest during winter I migrate inside where it's warm. I think more like a Brown Bear than a Polar Bear. Anyhow so, I am not in most athletic shape so Curling 2 hours is quite out of the ordinary for me. The first couple times I messed up on Speed, Holding the Rock back, Whether to Curl Clockwise or Counter Clockwise. I mess up someone's right is my left all the time. This doesn't help matters. They were giving me advice on what to-do and not-to do.
I am more used to winning in video games where I can relax and press buttons.
Hopefully next week I will do much better. It's good to have a Hobby outside of just: Computer and Games. That is all.
INDEPENDENT HENTAI ARTISTS MONTHLY!!!!I was recently asked to join a new group here on DA:INDEPENDENT HENTAI ARTISTS MONTHLY!!!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
What is INDEPENDENT HENTAI ARTISTS MONTHLY you ask?
Well its a group set up to help artists to share fans and aid in not only promotion here on DA but to keep watchers and members up to speed on site updates. To build interest and generally stimulate the economy that we, as hentai artists, work in.
Now, In addition to featuring work from various artists the group is also looking to have interviews, and talk about hot and popular topics with the fans.
Only artists with "pay sites" will be featured.
So go check it out!

Misadventures in Two StatesLife's thrown a few surprises my way and they're mostly positive. After finishing the Iron Maiden – a request I'd been postponing for ages – in an all-night session fuelled by cheap bourbon I needed some time away from the screen. It was never going to be easy, what with all the blades, blood, bodies and foetuses (which I recast as infants so I could add more detail), and my repressed engineer genes didn't help. Outside a fantastic setting, there are a lot of very good reasons why armoured fighting vehicles don't look like iron maidens on legs, just as there are very good reasons why flying machines don't look like necrotic dreadnoughts; but you get more creative leeway when black magic's factored in. Some far more talented hands than mine make this stuff seem believable – in my humble opinion Keith Thompson nearly always succeeds while Warhammer artists usually don't. I got around my own misgivings by treating it as a visionary scene and it's been well enough received.Misadventures in Two States6 months ago in Personal More Like This
Better NewsIt's been ages since last post, but things are looking up again. My last Sydney trip went much as expected: I caught up with some wonderful people, didn't get enough sleep and went home exhausted. David continues to sell sculptures inspired by conversations we've had for ridiculous amounts, and I've jokingly said I should ask for a cut. Despite her taste for pub trivia, Sarah remains the closest thing to a human antidepressant I've found. Colin has finally sold the mountain of books I helped him bring home in a truck. Gina is 15 kilos lighter, one blonde mohawk taller, and one new partner happier. Leigh, who's come across as less than wonderful in the past, has more than redeemed himself. He was fretting about not having enough money for a first print run of Blood and Thunder, a quality hardcover publication, but collected the $5000 he needed from friends 12 hours before the deadline. I'm proud to say I contributed nothing, but thanks to him a whole lot of work from the Scorched EarthBetter News8 months ago in Personal More Like This

To my friends, otaku or not.I want to say one thing really quick. I am not writing as my online persona. I am writing to you all as myself: twenty five year old mother of one, wife, and denizen of America, Shauna Tague. The same person who learned to draw from her best friend in high school and learned to love anime because of her dad. The same person who took joy in finding an online community as enthused as she is about her favorite things. The person who is currently speaking from the deepest and most honest part of her heart. To my friends, otaku or not.2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Teslapunk technologyHere's a question for the physicistsTeslapunk technology2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If we discover a way create a path of low electrical resistance through air (wireless electricity, electrical fields with sharp edges), what are some of the technologies that might spring from it?
So far I've got:
(1) appliances that pick up electricity from generators in the area (like wifi)
(2) weapons that zap you, like wireless tasers
(4) a shell of low resistance sandwiched between shells of high resistance, the middle shell filled with suspended bits of metal. Set it to spin. Instant shield.
(5) create different paths for metal shards to move down, and your rail- or coil-gun becomes a variable-length chainsaw. Or boomerang gun.
(7) a powerful and complicated looped path for electrons. Pass it through electronics and watch them fry. Pass it through someone's head and they die or go insane.
Any other ideas?

CHARISMA BESTIARYThe Charisma are an original species made by me, Windy being the species mascot. Charisma are mammalian creatures that live in an alternate dimension, aptly named "The Dimension" (for lack of a better name.) Below is some information about them until I can get a better species sheet for them.CHARISMA BESTIARY4 months ago in Personal More Like This
Average weight: 7ft tall, toe to ear tip.
Average weight: 400-500 lbs
Diet: Charisma are omnivorous, and have canine-like teeth in the front and gradually their teeth get flatter towards the back of the mouth. They eat what their tribe hunts and gathers such as game meat, berries, and special salads consisting from local plants and herbs.
External features: The Charisma resemble draconian kangaroos (that's what everyone tells me anyways) with large hind legs and large feet adorned with three, solid, large claws. On their backs are "wing spikes". These remain in a small compact form until the Charisma needs to fly, then

hyperdimension neptunia mk2 model links + tutorialso, has anyone been seeing those HNMK2 models and they've wanted to rig them?hyperdimension neptunia mk2 model links + tutorial2 years ago in Personal More Like This
well here you go!
these are their files here - you have to rig them yourself :3
credits to random talking bush for ripping them!
how to get into .pmd format (without doing anything special with the plugins and whatever):
download blender 2.49
^^^ that's the link to it
once you get blender opened and running, click: file -> import -> wavefront (.obj)
it will import your model.
export your model (file -> export) as a .3ds
after you do this, import that .3ds file (file -> import -> .3ds) and then export it as a .x file (file -> export -> DirectX (.x))
"but ww1337, we don't wanna do all this! what's the point?"
i don't know! i learned this from a great model ripper! but it works out all the problems when exporting into pmdeditor. so yes, it's totally necessary to do all this if
