Something for my own entertainment. I sometimes manage to imagine strange things, like "what if" this or "what if" that.
This time I imagined "What if the once powerful Carthage managed to find its place in the world dominated by Rome?" Maybe they would have flourished to become one of the founding cultures of what grew into the modern world we currently live in. What would their language and script look like?
Assuming the starting point of the symbols used by the Punic/Phonecian peoples of Carthage, and 2000 years of history intervening, I worked out my idea of a "Helvetica" or "Arial" style sans-serif font for the inheritors of the Punic language and culture.
The Punic people were descended from the Phoenicians and their language was similar to Phoenician but it did have some differences, enough to make it more than a dialect. Both were Semitic languages, which share characteristics with modern languages such as Hebrew, Arabic and Ge'ez. They wrote in horizontal lines, going from right to left. Their alphabet was more properly described as an Abjad- where vowel sounds were implied by context. When reading you would know that certain letters arranged together meant a particular word and you'd fill in the appropriate vowel sounds. Arabic and Hebrew have a similar arrangement.
I took the symbols from the Neo Punic alphabet used by the people of Carthage, and I tried to imagine the best way they'd look if inscribed on a monument. Nice clear shapes with a uniform size, spacing, and something with a unifying aesthetic.
No doubt I am totally wrong, maybe it would have turned out a lot like arabic since like it, Neo Punic seemed to preserve the cursive, handwritten style on a lot of monumental inscriptions. But I would think with the Romans and their monumental inscription style, and the Greeks with a similar aesthetic... maybe they would adopt a similar take on things. Who knows?
I don't know anything about designing fonts, this was done in Inkscape and I just tried to make it visually appealing. I wouldn't know how to make it work as a font.
Also I know that for irrational reasons some folks think the Phoenicians and their descendants were bad people in some way, and I want to make clear that this is just a "what if" imagining, I couldn't care less about modern day cultural arguments and such. They are an extinct people and culture, so nothing political is meant by this.
1) Because complex are useless! eye color, breast size, height, weight, penis size... everyone is beautiful the way they are. We should be happy of being ourselves and stop complaining about how we could improve our faces and bodies.
BTW, this could have another interpretation, like "you are beautiful so you don't need to have your own opinion" and blah blah blah, but I did this to express what I said in the first paragraph
2) Sorry I can't reply to all, but thank you everybody for all your favs and comments! I'm so glad you like my work
3) You can use my stamps wherever you want, in your ID, journal, facebook etc. Please don't re-submit them to your DA without credit me
4) You can give your own opinion, but please, be respectful with the others. Free insulting won't give more power to your arguments. Thanks

“No artist tolerates reality.” ~Nietzsche
Interesting quote, I don't entirely agree, but I like where it is coming from. Everyone, besides the insane, has to tolerate reality for the most part, its called being conscious... Reality is full of amazing things anyway. I think however, that artists and other creative types tap into the unrealistic more often. In fact, usually in an attempt to make it a reality...
Anyway, it was the first quote I came across that I liked and was as long as I needed.
Firstly, Thank you A looooooooot SoulFighty for suggesting my first DD and Thank you pica-ae for featuring my first DD ...
Secondly, Wooooooooooooooow ... I really did not expect this much of disagreements, it is really surprising
anyway, I don't know how should I start but,
the idea of the design is very simple Imagination .. is .. not .. supposed .. to .. be .. shown .. I'm not being sarcastic or anything. in fact I'm being serious and I do know the full meaning of what I'm saying.
basically, imagination is supposed to be imagined is meant to be imagined NOT to be shown ... that's why it is called IMAGINATION...
The idea basically started after I realised that most people think that any piece of art must be based on imagination ... imagination is a small job that the brain can do .. but it is not everything the brain does ... I agree art is mostly based on the brain of the artist ... that's why I did not say "art is not supposed to be shown" ..
however, most of what you see now a days in movies, video clips, designs, even advertisements is fully based on imagination ... so what I'm trying to say to all of them is "STOP ... stop showing me my imagination and let me imagine it" .. my brain has the right to feel that it's useful .. but by showing me something that needs to be imagined you are KILLING my brain and asks it to stop working cos what you are sowing me is already doing the job for it ...
not every piece of art is based on imagination .. and imagination is not your only way of being an artiest .. I know it is one of the ways but NOT THE ONLY .. you are an artist because of whatever you do, whatever you say, whatever you think about, not because you have the ability to show us what is in your mind ...
a real piece of art makes your brain work, think, improve .. a real piece of art doesn't stop your brain from working or makes you just say " ummm, That looks nice!"
the real artist does not express him/her self ONLY on a "piece" of art .. Art to real artists is a life style, is a way of thinking, is everything .........
I hope that explain some of the meaning ..
Thanks to all who liked my work thanks to all who viewed it and thanks to all who commented
For *EinStud and his Steelers. (this means a party, yes? )
maybe I should put this up here as a reminder: I'm not a Steelers fan. I bleed Cowboy blue.
Secondly, I'm flattered that this is a Daily Deviation. It's my first one, and probably my only one. But this is not my best typography nor artpiece in my honest opinion. I'll be humble and honest; I would not have chosen this myself as a DD. LOL, BUT, I am sincere when I say thank you for this Daily Deviation.
(And forget the football teams, maybe I should just make an art piece based on the half time show. That was trippy and TRON like, no?)
