I quit my job.I had to. Being stuck in retail hell for years was getting to me. There's only so many times you can deal with disrespectful self-entitled customers daily, especially when you have personal goals and aspirations that have nothing to do with retail or the success of the business you're working so hard for. (with little acknowledgement.) It's not that I never put my heart into my job -- I even made some great friends there. It's just, when you see so many of your other friends, even family members doing seriously cool things with their talents... it eats at you like you're staring at your own death-clock.I quit my job.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I haven't been one to take risks in the past, so the thought of cutting off my only source of income wasn't exactly on the forefront of my thoughts. But, I was given an opportunity with a soon-to-be startup studio that a bunch of friends of mine are already apart of. I came on board this project earlier this year, but only slightly part-time. On my days off from my retail job, I would p

A bit of a ramble from me to youHello everyone! Long time no see.A bit of a ramble from me to you3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm going to take this time to reflect on some things.
I was talking to Moorina and she inspired me to write this in detail and share with you all ^^
I've been doing doujin work and publishing in Japan for 4 years now... looking back, there has been a ton of sacrifices and bad decisions to be made. My life in general was kinda weird.
This is quite personal, but I though I'd share my life/experience with you guys.
My family was never well off. A lot of our friends don't know of our situation, of course. Our mother was gambling every single day and our father was never home. Mom would take all day looking around the house for hidden cash (stashed from my dad) while dad goes out to play pool with his friends. Our family borrows money from relatives and that's how we get by. If you go back to my journal entries from 2004, those were the days where we had to go to the internet cafe just to use the net because we couldn't afford to pay for anything per month

My Life Story (Revised)I was born April 8, 1987. I had cancer in my adrenal gland as an infant. So I had chemotherapy for a few years until they cut it out. It was one of the rarest cancers doctors had ever seen. Usually, this type of cancer spreads its self to another part of your body, but usually doesn't present its self until the teen years. I was pronounced perfectly normal and stable at the age of four. I enjoyed the next eight or so years of childhood. When I was twelve, almost thirteen, I had back pains so I went to get some x-rays done. The results found a little blip near my kidneys. It turned out to be cancer. Luckily, that one was found early enough that I didn't have to have chemotherapy again. I had the surgery to get the tumor out, but the doctors had to take out both of my kidneys also. I stayed in the hospital for a week. The week after I was out, it was as if nothing had changed for me, I was still strong and optimistic, but one night my blood pressure rose dangerously high. DeviantART announced a month ago that through a new organization, Dadotart we applied to manage a new Top Level Domain (TLD) called “.ART.” We are committed to having the .ART TLD — the Internet addresses that could end in .ART — organized and distributed with the full participation of the global art community.
We need your help!
We need your help to show public support for the Dadotart application. The application process to manage a TLD is long, arduous, and intricate. Help us gather as a true art-centric community. And please spread the word to everyone who loves the arts or is part of the arts because we aim to have .ART be home to everyo

The Street Photography of Chris Weeks
It was only after many long frustrating hours of trying to describe what’s so special about the photographs of cweeks...
That I finally realized I was trying to describe something that wasn’t there.
I finally realized that the magical something that sets cweeks’ works apart from others is that his camera disappears. There is no sense as you look at his photos of street scenes and other captures that you are looking through a lens, even the lens of a particularly talented photographer. There is a sense of simply walking through a town and seeing what you happen to see – without the

Might as well give up on schoolI don't know what the hell I'm suposed to do anymore. I struggled my first semester, and failed one class out of four, the other three were Bs and Cs. I registered this semester really late so all the classes I need for General Ed. were already full so I've only one class, my Adobe Illustrator one which is a virtual waste of time. And I just got a letter that I'm on somehow because of that F I got last semester, meaning that I can't register next semester at all.Might as well give up on school7 years ago in Personal More Like This
Doesn't make much difference as I've got no idea what classes to take nor what the hell to major in. I'm not interested in anything or I suck at everything I'm the least bit interested in. I'm just so screwed up I guess I'll just blow over higher education and find some job since I can't manage anything else.

Living Rainbow Taking Flight
The vibrant digital paintings of alicexz are fiery, emotional, and incredibly memorable.
The colors of her creations (mostly portraits of popular TV and Film characters) are unusually vibrant, which is remarkable considering how layered they appear to be. It’s sort of like what manga characters might look like if painted by one of the Dutch Masters. And this artist exhibits just the right amount of quirkiness to leave us wanting to know more: she has a penchant for painting redheads. But, then of course, there’s a lot of red and golden fire burning through most her artworks.

No better living functioning evolving example of the new pattern in the creation, dissemination and education in the visual arts can be found than Imaginism Studios, the online brainchild of artists Bobby Chiu & Kei Acedera. Established in Toronto in 2005, the studio has specialized in pre-production character and concept design for film, TV, gaming, and publishing. As creators of some of the most wildly creative and whimsical images ever presented on deviantART, this artistic couple has built an international fan base independent of their c
BeautyWhen we look at true beauty do we take note of the color of their skin? Decide that it is different and there for unworthy of being beautiful? True beauty is measured by what is being conveyed: sadness, joy, anger, depression, fulfillment all worthy of beauty. Casting aside the difference between people and realizing that the emotions described as beautiful are universal. True Beauty is in the soul.Beauty3 years ago in Personal More Like This

EducationIn the world of education, there has been quite a stir for the past few years over 'education reform'. This reform is widely ill-conceived and has many contradictory voices from multiple facets of the education professions. 'More computers,' 'less computers,' 'ipads,' 'no tests,' 'no homework,' 'more homework,' 'longer school year,' 'much more funding,' and many other ideas have all been pitched to the public as means of improving performance (metrics) in schools. I am not posting this to give the answer to all of these problems, I am here to posit that as a culture we may be asking some of the wrong questions, and that by with a change in perspective an answer may become more evident.Education4 years ago in Personal More Like This
To begin, we need to go back to the very beginning of the modern school system, and briefly examine the beginnings of the grading system. Before the modern classroom, students were taught by a mentor in their field, aspiring smiths were taught by apprenticing with a master smith, farmers by farmers, and

Where I Come From
I come from a place of words. In my life, I have experienced angry words, gentle words, and words of teaching.
People nowadays underestimate the raw power that can be held in words. The correct grammar and punctuation will make you a smart man, but the right words in the right place will make you a brilliant man. With all the technology set in place today, the option of reading is slowly being edited out with a simple click of a button. But if people took the time to really look at writing, they'll realize there are infinite cosmos in the gentleness of a bedtime story, or untapped potential in one unread story.
More than once I have been told horrible things. More than once I have been scarred by what should have been just classified as just simple words, uttered by one person. My father used to torture us with just words, making sure that we knew that we were nothing but a wart on the face of an otherwise beautiful planet, and he ma
