She stares intot he mirror, tears
leaking from her eyes,
Feeling her pulse quicken & her
Knowing that she shall be wild soon
Knowing that she has something to prove
She stares at her reflection
Feeling disgust as she falls to her knees
Feeling only pain
Feeling only agony as her bones freeze
She stares without seeing at the floor
Feeling her skin rip and tear
Leaving her doubled on the ground
The only thing she can do is stare
She opens her mouth, her teeth
jagged and sharp
She lifts her head & lets out a
Scream. She feles only release
As she realises she is ree from

is gone now, the beast
Within her soul is free
She walks forward on strong

in the fact that before her human

A moment on the roadA moment on the road1 year ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This
On a road from Loimola towards Suvilahti, early March 1940...
Something blew up ahead on the dark blue road. Rucksacks no longer felt heavy as their carriers threw themselves into the ditch, crawled behind rocks and trees. Snow fell from the nearby spruces like a white powder. Some were still covering their heads and rifles with their hands, as some lifted their faces from the ground. Men stared at each other's faces with uncertainty.
What should we do? Was the enemy somewhere near? Was someone hit? Did someone else piss his pants?
As the ringing echo of the explosion disappeared into the night, distant gunfire was heard ever clearer now. Dry nagging of machineguns and some rifle shots. The sounds made one or two of the men to feel sick. Either that, or they had managed to puncture their ears.
It was their first day and they hadn't even reached their Company yet. They were fresh. Still in their boyhood. The 2nd Company had been mauled pretty badly. More men were needed.

The beginning... It's so hard to think, so hard to recall what life was like before... but, I must remember. I must always remember.
It was Tuesday morning, 7 AM. Way earlier than any normal teenager on summer break would be up at. But, my parents being my parents, insisted that we get on the road early so we could get the four hour drive from Banff to Jasper National Park out of the way. We'd been on the road a few days, staying over night in camp grounds and cheap motels when it rained, so I was completely stoked on arriving at our destination and having a few days of downtime in the woods.
The drive was a blur of blasting punk rock on my ipod while staring out the window and trying to sleep to the rumbling of our ancient ford explorer. Either way, the thick green forest that blurred by was strangely beautiful. It's not like it was anything new though. Living in western Canada, I'd kinda gotten to know the forest quite well, but something about this section of highway

Traversing the northern forests in the early spring was never an easy task, and were it not for the rewards, Richard Farns would never brave the cold and long hikes. He cursed under breath that stirred the air with a fine mist, angry that his quarry this year was a much longer hike from civilization than the previous years had been. Those had been much easier, quickly moving in and taking his prize, then getting back to the warm comforts of the cabin with it's large fireplace and central heating. This time seemed to be plagued with bad luck, from being stranded at the airport for days because of a freak storm, to spraining an ankle hiking to the cabin, the thoughts of cold hard cash the only thing egging him on.
He stopped to rest against a large oak, setting down his equipment before rubbing his gloved hands together to try to warm them up a bit, and shaking some still present snow from his coat and woolen cap. His equipment was rather heavy for a hike, and he was left to

Imagine for just a moment. Imagine what it would be, to be a Werewolf...
Imagine yourself standing in a field. It's dark, wind is blowing lightly, and moonlight is spilling out over the grass. A silvery light that steals most color. Clouds hide the moon for now.
In the distance, a howl. The howl is much larger and louder than a dog's, or even a wolf's. This howl sends a shiver down your spine. You stomach tingles with excitement, and fear.
You'd like to believe that you're not afraid. Deep down you are. You're frightened at this horrible sound. You quickly try and force it out of your mind.
You try to think of something else. Anything else... but you can't.
Again you hear it, closer now. The fear returns. The excitement returns.
This time it's lodged in your mind, replaying the horrible disturbance of the quiet, again and again. Your breathing starts to pick up, without your consent. The grass around you is rather tall, but still below waist level. You'd see something if it would approa

Miranda walked down the busy street. Children scampered about in their costumes, happily hauling bags of candy. "So cute." She thought to herself as she watched them, scanning the streets for someone about her age. Miranda was a witch, a good witch, but a witch none the less. As she continued to walk down the street, giggling every now and then when the children attempted to scare her, she smile suddenly when she saw a young man walking rather quickly towards an alley. "Perfect." She whispered.
Danny hurried down an alley, knowing it was a shortcut to the house party. "This better be worth the walk." He thought bitterly as he walked. The winds seemed to stop blowing and all the laughter of children seemed to fade farther and farther away.
Danny froze and turned around to see a young woman standing a few feet away from him. "Wh what do you want?" He stuttered, trying to disguise the surprise in his voice.
"Danny" The woman said again.

Jarl Balgruuf was in bed, a bed fit for the Lord,
In hopes that St. Nick would bring him a Sword;
In the small house known as Breezehome, Lydia did slumber,
Wishing that for Christmas she would get a Sword of Thunder;
And Archer set out some milk and a sweet roll,
Preparing for the arrival of Santa, so he wouldn't get coal;
He had no idea what this man looked like,
But he hoped that he'd visit, possibly this night
He yawned tiredly, and then scratched his head,
Before going upstairs to sleep in his bed.
In the morning, he hoped, he would have some nice presents…
Well, after all, he'd been kind to the peasants,
When suddenly, in the living room, Archer did hear,
A large man was present… when did he appear?
With a focus, then a cast, Archer was see-through,
So he could sneak behind a chair, and see what the man would do.
He wore a large red
Unexpected WerewolfSomething was wrong, I just knew it. I could feel strange tingling all over, and decided to take a shower figuring I was dirty or something. After undressing and leaving a fresh pile of clothes on the counter I turned on the water so it could warm up. While waiting I noticed in the mirror small black spots all over my body "when did I get this dirty?". I tried to look closer in the mirror but then saw the steam coming from behind the shower curtains and smiled glad it had warmed up so fast and jumped in happily. The hot water felt great, as it always does when it hit my skin "ahhhhh", but it also felt a bit strange too. The tingling started to get worse "The hell is with this dirt anyways?" looking down I noticed that there was a lot more black areas, and they seemed to pop out now. I rubbed a spot that was on my arm and felt that it wasn't dirt at all, but fur. "AH! Woa this is not supposed to be there!". The sound of my leg crushing between his bear trap jaws was unsettling at best. Of course, the feeling wasn't all that great either. Pain throbbed up and down over my leg, all the way to the hip. No! No! No! No! No! This isn't happening, not again. I can't do it again. I won't do it again.
Screeching, I thrashed back and forth in an attempt to double back on him. But the older wolf just sidestepped with me and dug his teeth in deeper. I yelp-snarled and twisted in vain. The pain was incredible and the stink of my own blood was sending me into a foaming panic. But it was nothing I hadn't dealt with before and it was certainly nothing compared to what I knew I would feel if I let him keep control of the situation.
In desperation, I shoved my butt backwards into his face. It yanked pain through my leg, but he was certainly caught off guard. While he snapped to get his grip back, I spun around and raked a fang across his forehead. His recoil was sharp with experience and embarrassm

Howling at the bright, full moon
To someone among the stars
Unfortunately, a slave to the moon's will
For all eternity
Then back into the forest
He hunts in the forest
The forsaken body of a werewolf
Writhing pain and agony in an eternity

I call out
With a deafening howl

A wolf basks beneath the night,
Gasping the air below the moons light,
Howling at the rays of midnight sky,
Bewildering the moment with an inner sigh,
I stand alone
In the darkness of this rugged land,
Where nothing can go hand in hand,
Staring into the sky through eyes wistfully,
Into a realm where I can never be truly,
Be on my own
Once I belonged to a pack,
Where trails of footprints go in track,
As we ventured into the mountains bliss,
Where nothing can be seen in the abyss,
I felt so alone
At a time when I needed them most,
My brethren were in the forest lost,
As I journeyed through the woods of Faerie,
Lost in the sensation of a moonlight ferry,
For all the brethren who had lied,
For every lone wolf who had died,
For the hunt where we never succeeded,
For the forest we had never seceded,
For the lost that will never be bribed.
As I wail a lupine howl through the night sky,
An answer to the moon, this is my wo

Once upon a time there was a little girl who lived in a happy little place. This place was filled with other happy little boys and girls who loved art. They would show their art to the girl, and she would show her art back to them. It was a place where anyone could be proud to show themselves.
One day, however, the little girl forgot about the happy little place and stayed away for a while. When she came back with a new name, everything had changed. It started out slowly, and the girl didn't notice. After a while, though, the girl got worried. The other happy boys and girls had grown up and had started being mean. The sky wasn't so blue anymore--instead, it was a sickly olive. Even the streets were torn apart; those who couldn't afford to pay the mayor of the little town were kicked aside and ignored.
The town had grown into a city. The people built brothels and casinos. Strange creatures in glasses and ties roamed the streets--some white, some brown, some gold. The little girl was afr

They never really get it right in the movies. They always scream and cry and things grow but the audience is just like, 'yeah, that looks like it hurts. Now get to the wolfy part."
But in reality, it hurts to much that you don't make any sound. It's loud squeaks. Its heavy breathing. And its waiting for the morning to come so you can run home and look for scars.

We have our fights, our quarrels, and even our squabbles…
But we always forgive, even though it's a marvel
During the week, I am covered in snow,
The shit that happens, you all know…
I curl up, trying to let it all pass,
How can I cope, when nothing lasts?
The weekend comes, and I pick up my cell…
A rally cry is made, high and shrill.
They come to my house to pick me up,
Save me from my troubles, I am no longer stuck…
We have a good time, playing around
Together we never have to look down.
Sunday comes, and it's time to leave,
I dread Monday, and don't want to return to my week…

I ignored my senses which told me I was not on a sled in the middle of winter, but on a rock in the middle of summer.

It was coming up on the next full moon and since last time I had been doing as much research as possible into my "condition". The only consistency between the stories was the change at full moon and the aversion to silver. I had tested out the silver story and if anything it only slightly irritated my skin so I dismissed it as hearsay. I had also taken the precaution of finding out when the next full moon was. Today. I had told my parents I would be elsewhere for the night so there was one less problem to worry about. I hated lying to them but I couldn't exactly tell them.
I was now walking down the street Dr. Carlton's building was in. I would have to tell him I needed to leave early today, I had it all planned out, I'd leave at fourish and be inside the forest by five, plenty of time in case something happened. I stepped into the empty building. It was Sunday so no one but Dr. Carlton was in the building. I knocked on the door, it was nearly two now.
