Pony ResourcesI'm routinely updating this post with new resources that people send me. So feel free to send me links to tutorials or other informational posts/deviations/links that you think might be helpful to plushy makers!Pony Resources3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been putting together a new list of pony resources over the last few weeks. It's been a while since I did the first journal post on the topic and unfortunately a lot of the original links went dead when BabyLondonStar deactivated her account. I also wanted to include some links for other non-eye and mark related things that I've found over the time I've been on deviantART.
There's a really cool tutorial by BeeZee-Art for making spiral plushie horns that I thought folks might like to see for their unicorns. I think you could also apply it to plushies where the horn is sewn in already, getting your needle in there might be a little harder though.
Once you've finished sewing your pony you may want to take

Beadwork feature - Paisley and teardropsThis week I chose to show you two well known shapes transfered to beadwork - paisley and teardrop. They are somewhat similar, yet in beadwork usually achieved in quite different manners. Paisleys are usually embroidered or, if woven, done in brick stitch. Teardrops are rarely done through use of beads alone, and are usually connected with beading around a tear-shaped cabochons. And here we have all of it - 3D teardrops, flat teardrops, cabochons, embroidered paisley, beadwoven paisley... I hope you'll enjoy my selection of deviations for this week.Beadwork feature - Paisley and teardrops3 years ago in Art Features More Like This

Beadweaving feature - fringes, picots and tasselsFringes and picots are often used for embellishment of beaded jewelry. Some stitches, like St. Petersburg and herringbone, have a natural picot edge. Others don't, but that doesn't mean that you can't add one to them. Fringes are essential part of traditional brick stitch triangle earrings, but you can put them on anything. There are so many variations of beaded fringe that you can actually make a whole piece just out of fringes.Beadweaving feature - fringes, picots and tassels4 years ago in Art Features More Like This

OBJECTIVE: SELL THIS DAMN BOOK, DANNY.
At first, Gabriel was nothing more than a character named ONE. He had no backstory, no face, nothing. I just wanted to create a character that was a badass, yet with a sense of humor.
I was inspired by such characters as Boba Fett, Wolverine, Deadpool and Clint Eastwood from The Man With No Name trilogy. I needed to create something that fit that build, however, I'll admit, it wasn't intended at first.
I uploaded him on December 8th, 2008, (which, you can find here: http://danluvisiart.deviantart.com/art/GABRIEL-107612010?q=gallery%3Adanluvisiart%2F7848546&qo=50) and he became one of the most popular characters of the series, if not, the most. Soon I started finding him on forums, websites, fashion blogs (what?), and more.
But what hit me so hard was that the majority of the comments rela

A recent "conversation" has brought to my knowledge a group dedicated to "protecting" the character, Princess Celestia, who is from the show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. If you know me, you know that I LOVE the character of Princess Celestia and that I've been a spazztastic little defender of hers ever since I became a fan of the show (My friends, Jandrus13 and Dusty-san know VERY well how I've been about that). I don't remember if I've ever written Journals about how I feel about her, but I know I've ranted and lectured people a bunch in the past about my feelings toward Princess Celestia and putting up logic and a good defense in her behalf for her actions in the show.
Now, it's importa
The Word of KurtzI was checking the "links" section of my website, just to make sure everything was still working as I hadn't actually clicked on anything there for a while, and I found myself on the PVP website. The Word of Kurtz4 years ago in Personal More Like This
"A while" was obviously "a few years". I barely recognised the strip!
Anyway; I'm not writing this to bitch about hating change (I'll save that and put it into Sequential Art), I'm writing this to relay a very good point the good Mr Kurtz made in the PVP blog:
"Everyone is kind of freaking out right now because of the Gary Friedrich case. Long story short, the guy who created Ghost Rider in 1972 sued Marvel, claiming that they never filed a copyright for his work and therefore he still owns Ghost Rider. Courts said "sit down before you fall down" and in addition slapped the guy with a $17,000 fine for selling tee shirts and posters featuring Mike Ploog Ghost Rider art at conventions.
People are considering this a warning salvo at artists who do sketches of Marvel and DC owned characters at

How I made the Alien fossil pendantMany people have asked how i made it so i'm gonna tell you In great detailHow I made the Alien fossil pendant3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I made it because a very nice man asked me to. Challenge accepted!
And i must admit - it really was a challenge
I have spent quite some time scratching my head and thinking 'how da hell am i gonna make this?'
So we're talking about this thing:
I started from the head.
The top was supposed to be shiny so standard wrapping was out of the question. I chose a low dome half round wire instead. That thing is SO hard to bend sideways and i had to bend it to get the head shape. After the bending battle was done i spent an hour fine tuning the shape of the head with various files.
Then there was the jaw. And the bottom of the head. The bottom should have some details so wrapping it worked fine. I measured how much wire should go into it, flattened 20ga wire, filed tiny little teeth in the front of the jaw, shaped it to get a bit of 3D action going there and wrapped it al

OBJECTIVE: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND STORY BUILDING
I began working pretty heavily on LMS during the first quarter of 2009. I had now a handful of characters, a rough idea of the story, and a general scope of what I wanted the book to be. To get started, I felt every book should have a theme. Movies do, right?

Batman: Be more than just a man, a symbol, and be remembered a legend.
Star Wars: The myth of a heroes destiny, and the truth that allows him to be set free.

It is with heavy hearts that we must inform you of the passing of our darling daughter, Alie. Her final days were fairly peaceful, sleeping much of the time but also able to watch some of the Winter Olympics and enjoy her favorite event, figure skating. Her final moments were peaceful with both parents by her bedside.
We have all been preparing for this day for the past several weeks, knowing it was coming far faster than we hoped. From the moment in December when the news came of her terminal illness, Alie has continually amazed us with her positive attitude and limitless spirit. We have all learned from her selfless approach to life, her giving nature, and her passion for the possibilities that life hold for all of us She was so thankful for all of the outreach shown to her by her friends and family and we share in that gratitude. Unfortunately she was just too weak to be able to a
