The Silver Creek Posse: Deputised Damsels - Pt2The heat of the day was already rapidly draining into a cold clear night with a full moon, as Alice and her small posse neared the first fork in the trail that led away from Silver Creek. Although the girls could see the lights of houses twinkling in the distance when they were on higher ground, they had long since left anywhere that could be thought of as being part of their home town. The Silver Creek Posse: Deputised Damsels - Pt214 hours ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
Alice was starting to wish that she had brought a shawl with her. It might not have looked as impressive as when she first rode out, wearing her father’s red shirt, suede waistcoat, and her own brown corduroy riding skirt, but at least she’d be warmer. She had packed a blanket into the saddle pack on her father’s horse, but she had only really intended it for sleeping under. She glanced over her shoulder at Maggie, and saw that she too was looking a little less enthusiastic about things now that the reality of a night on the trail was upon them.
“Maggie… I think you can unt

*Night of the Acachalla Murders*
I stare at the radio.
I'm in awe.
I know enough information to be counted as a suspect.
I know too much, so I head out as fast as I can.
As I'm walking down the hall an officer steps and hands me a sheet of paper.
"Here you go Miss. Nichosin" The officer handed me a sheet of paper saying I was being transferred to a small medical center in Bridge-Port.
"Oh, uh, thanks." I say as I walk out. "Have a good night!"
"Yeah, sure. I'll be sleeping like a baby with a killer on the loose."
"You know, sleeping like a baby is waking up crying because you solided yourself."
"Ah" He sighs. "You know what I mean. Just, don't get killed. Alright'?"
"Yeah." I say and nod. "Right." I exit through the door and see my car parked.
I pull my keys from my pocket and hop into my car.
Rain starts to pour down on me.
As I'm driving down the dark road I see police cars racing down the road.
"What the?" I ask myself. When they stop I see
Goodbye, ObserverYou know what’s scary? The inevitable. The inevitable is what is scary.Goodbye, Observer21 hours ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This
So I’m going to tell you: That girl there? With the curly hair and bad posture? I’m going to kill her. That’s inevitable. Ooh, scary. Now, with that unsettling thought nestled in your brain, I’m going to continue with the opening monologue.
I hope we’re not off on the wrong foot—it would really be a shame if you thought wrongly of me. Which is to say: I want you to be disgusted and horrified. I don’t want you to think I’m boring, or pretentious. But anyway, back to discussing the philosophy of the inevitable.
It’s why everyone is so scared of death, underneath everything else. It seems so unnatural because what we understand is living, and not-living is weird when it’s not meat to be eaten. But we all know about ends, about death. We know it and we know we can’t stop it.
It’s beautiful in a way.
I bet you’re wondering about my inten

I listen to your conversation with your family and friends.
I watch you study and feed the kitten that I gave you.
I can smell the jasmine perfume lurking 'round your neck.
When you eat at the garden of our school, I wonder of the taste of the food you cooked.
I want to call your name.
I want to touch you your cold cheeks and wipe your tears away every night at this road.
I want to warm you with my hug.
But I guess that will just give you chills.
No matter how near I am to you,
I still cannot reach you.
I shall be off to somewhere by now but here I am beside you.
I'm really sorry.
Please don't be sad anymore.
Every time a tear drops from your eyes, my heart is stabbed.
Free yourself from this sorrow.
You are here breathing.
You can't be stuck here with me forever.
I also do not want to let go of this string...it makes me sad,
But I must go,
And you should move on.
Consider this string that continues to exist as a precious memory.

I’m in a clean white and grey room. The smell of disinfectant lingers in the air as well as new plastic mixed with metal. Infirmary? A soft repetitive beeping echo’s in my ears. My heart beat. Defiantly an Infirmary.
I try to sit up. Every inch of me is sore and still half asleep. Both of my arms have a needle penetrating my pale skin, one with blood the other a clear liquid I can’t quite name. On my left hand, a small sticker with a heart and base reading through it must be the device that’s monitoring my heart rate. I mentally note not to touch it. Who knows how many or how loud the alarm would be if it didn’t read a pulse. But it’s not the heart monitor that makes me irritated about being here. It’s the hand cuff keepin
Regeneration, Pt. 1 of 8. The violent gathering gloom of the strange storm overwhelmed the frightened members of the fearful team on the outgoing raft first. The clouds became, lower, and more active, and bursts of electricity flashed through them, followed by radiating blue-white veins of lightning. As best as he could tell, Russel estimated that they had been rowing fervently and following the currents for nearly a half hour before the ferocious winds could no longer be effectively countered by their desperate efforts. Even within the narrower stream they were in, it caused resisting frothy waves and sprayed water and leaves at them, as if trying to make the whole environment resist them with a conscious intention. By then, they were accustomed to the loud thunder that shook the air at random, but the rapidly increasing darkness was even more frightening.Regeneration, Pt. 1 of 8.12 hours ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This

“Surely you don’t believe such an act is possible, Mrs. Sainsbury,” Brittany said bluntly. “A magical mask? A zombie army here in Blackpine? And what purpose would such an army serve?” Brittany took a seat on the porch swing, setting herself directly in the widow’s view.
“Skeptic.” Mrs. Sainsbury scoffed. “It is people like you that are blind and allow evils to exist recklessly in this world.”
“Skeptics or realists?”
Elizabeth gave Brittany a warning look. “We didn’t come here to upset you, Mrs. Sainsbury—”
“Well, you have!”
“I apologize.” Brittany looked away into the woods at the edge of the yard. “You said you couldn’t translate the inscription. Perhaps you wrote it down or have pictures of the mask?”
“Of course I do.”

The spine-tingling howls awoke me in the night. Although my eyes were open, no light seemed to shine in the room. This bed is not my own I realize when my back doesn’t ache from poking bedsprings as does mine. The floor seems to be cement I notice as I step barefoot out of bed to feel my way around in hopes of familiarizing where I am. Arms stretched, as a little child’s might in their pretending to sleepwalk, I observed that my fingers were no longer mobile. Tight mittens or the like were entombing my hands, except that I wear gloves in winter, not mittens. The temperature felt hot and humid, not the usual sixty degree cold I keep my house at in the frigid seasons. This felt more like being up in my attic in summer, except I have no bed in my attic, I have no space to walk around in my attic, I have no cement floor in my attic, and I have no mittens in my attic.
I hear a pair of footsteps different then my own causing me to freeze where I was standing. Focusing in

Her name was Lila.
She was a nice girl. It was plain to see for anyone who gave enough of a damn to look. She never had a harsh word to say about anyone, and no one who met her and got to know her could find any real fault with her. She was pretty enough without any need to be glamorous; rare for any woman, and doubly so for one with her nature.
Her name was Lila.
She was a nice girl.
She’s also the reason I’m in this wretched mess.
I’m currently in an abandoned hospital, heaven knows where, in a blinding amount of pain with more lead in me than nature ever intended. Through liberal use of bandages and what I am praying is antiseptic, the bleeding is being kept to a minimum for now. I have no idea what all’s been done to me; all I can tell is that it is agonizing.
My hand trembles around my pistol, newly recovered. Initially, I was hesitant to bring it; despite the indisputable amount of shit I am in, I don’t like using guns on my jo

Tch. Are they all so absorbed in boredom and fear that they focus on the little things?

A sigh; slowly the arms pushed the body up. The dim lighting was exaggerated after the television shut off. The air was muggy and humid, it left a sad aftermath.
"Get on your mask."
There was always a stench after wearing it. It came in waves-hot, then cold. The hot one was more comfortable and the cold one felt sickly.
"I turned on my monitor."
It has always been very colorful, full of information the average person would never find important. All the details. Details are important.

Keith walked into Mel and his bedroom rubbing his head with a towel; he had just got done washing his hair. "So did you think about what I said?" he asked with concern and a shimmer of hope in his eyes. She looked from rubbing her stomach and gave him that evil look again.
"I told you no! I don't want to go to that cabin, last time we went I got a rash in a place I will never forget." Mel said as she graded the TV remote and changed the channel. Keith threw the towel he was using into the clothes hamper as he said, "Okay that was a bad time, but they've refurnished the cabin since then."
"I don't want to give birth without doctors and drugs." Mel exclaimed as Keith walked over to his side of the bed. He sat down on the bed and began rubbing Mel's stomach, "You know I was an intern for three years."
Keith had gone to medical school right after he graduated high school, and was presented with his PhD. Afterwards he was an intern for the maternity wa

Getting higher & higher up, I start to be able to see a structure that resembles a radio station. Just like the transmission said.. Getting down carefully & without haste, I remember where the tower is located, & once I jump out of the tree, I dash back into the city as fast as I can, hoping to get to the building before anyone else.Lucid future: Chapter Thirteen20 hours ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
