I lit a cigarette - with a lighter - and remembered Annie Venter telling me that in the eighth grade as I lit matches behind the school. I had stared at her and lit the whole matchbook on fire, and then I had dropped it in the grass. She made me stomp it out.
I stood on the porch of my apartment, listening to the rain and staring out at the fog and the clouds and thinking that somewhere out there, Annie Venter was probably sleeping, not thinking about the time she told some stupid kid not to play with matches. I flicked the lighter on and off a few times to see if it would feel the same way the matches had all those years ago, but it didn't.
The smoke curled above me in the cold air, a visible metaphor for addiction as it hung off me. Everything in my life smelled like that anymore: like ashes.
I dropped the cigarette on the deck and I stared at the small red ember, letting it burn and smoke, letting it become

Roy: Alright the combatants are set, we have taken every angle into account and we have found ourselves a verdict.
Ivan: Let us watch the Hellfire ninja attempt to break his streak.
Roy: So, it's time for a Death Battle!
Ivan: So enthusiastic...
Roy: What? Just because I stole your line-
Ivan: IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLE!!!!
It was quiet that night. No one was out of their home, probably because of the big red demon walking about. Hellboy stepped out of a nearby pancake house, the owner watching his demonic customer exit the restaurant. His breath reeked of pancakes and beer.
Hellboy pulled out a wrinkled and folded-up piece of paper. It had "DEATH BATTLE" written at the top. Hellboy looked at it as he found the opponents name on the paper.
"Scorpion." Hellboy read aloud as he checked the area. He didn't see anything. Meanwhile in the depths of hell a yell was heard. A yellow clad ninja walked out of a blazing fire, a chain hanging from his arm. It was Scorpion.

"Gene!" Marina called out. "Gene! Are you up there!?"
There was no answer coming from the Argentum.
"Gah," she grunted and called again. "GENE! Are you there?!"
With her head and shoulders over the water by the hull of the ship, Marina paced in a small circle waiting for a reply. She had in her hand a bag that was once piece of cloth that she tied together at the corners. What she had inside the cloth she had to keep a secret from a certain captain f
Planes- A pain like a BladeDipper had developed a habit of eavesdropping on her idol Dusty Crophopper, to the point where some would judge her to be disturbed. On night she overheard a heated argument between Blade Ranger and Dusty. She did not hear how the debate started, but was certainly surprised to hear how it ended.Planes- A pain like a Blade1 day ago in Short Stories More Like This
Hiding around the corner of a hangar, she sat tight and listened.
“There is a fire burning within us all, one which constantly tries to overwhelm all who we are. Should it succeed, one would be nothing more than a hollow shell; a shadow of our former selves. Every day we fight it, but there is no extinguishing it. The strong and the wise defy it, while the weak and the self-centered embrace it. That fire is the evil within our souls, and it is always there, no matter how small and insignificant it may be.” Blade Ranger explained.
“That’s really poetic. Tell me this: why is it your crew follows you into danger and obeys your every order without question? Why do you think

The Cat Curls UpAnd a very good afternoon to you. You catch me looking at a catalogue of old chairs – nothing I would sell in my store, but from an aesthetics viewpoint it reminds me of some of the – things we used to think were fashionable. The Cat Curls Up18 hours ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This
Take this one for example – the infamous box seat, so popular in the early seventies for the style conscious and space conscious young person about town. Actually, the only thing they really turned out to be good for was walking into or falling off.
There was a flat I visited in the Knightsbridge area in the mid seventies, when Habitat, god rest their soul, were just starting out and making this sort of thing popular. I had thought it was empty, but after raiding the bedrooms I discovered the error of my ways – walking into the main room, I disturbed this eighteen year old girl, wearing a short sleeved white crotched top, pale blue mini skirt, white knee length socks and flat shoes, sitting on one of these box contraptions
Sin Balloonium: Neko Gold's PrideHiding in the dressing room of Neko Gold, Strack placed three superbium balloonium gems on her favorite sun-themed leotard she wore. He also noticed the the thigh-high stockings. "Test 2: Superbium." Thought the shade, quickly vanishing. "It's been a while since I wore you." Neko mused, very quickly noting the three balloonium gems on the breastplate, "Well, this is new." Walking into the closet, and very shortly coming out in the bodysuit, she hummed to herself, unaware of the gems beginning to glow...up until her breasts and butt cheeks began to grow once again. "Ooooh...neat." Said Neko Gold, feeling a growing pride in her curves on top of this. Swaying from side to side, bouncing her curves in joy, she watched as her breasts and butt cheeks grew past bowling ball-size; she became more proud of her figure as she kept on growing. She thought to herself.
"Once again, showtime!"
After the concert, Neko Gold w

The museum was very quiet as a solitary figure padded silently towards an exhibit on the Dark Ages, his colorful clothing a stark contrast to his purpose. “This is too perfect; I can steal one of the iron maidens in the exhibit to use as bait for White Owl. I can probably catch Captain Valiant too if I do it right.” The Buffoon spoke in a loud whisper to himself as he moved through the building. He wasn’t worried though, due to both the guards and the alarm system being taken out by him before getting deeper into the building.
Unknown to the villain, another body was creeping up behind him totally silent, eyes mainly focused on him while taking some care to mind the shadows as well so as not to give away her position. When The Buffoon stopped, she snuck up behind him and gently took his jester’s wand out of the holster on his hip and looked at it for a second. Once she found out

"YES! YES! HELL YEAH! WOOH!"
The owners of the conversation were laying on the couch, watching the latest World Cup match, between Germany and Brazil. Currently, Ming was laughing his ass off, while his twin was curled up, cursing everything and everyone that he could think off the top of his head.
"I can't believe Germany won! I mean the whole damn thing is in BRAZIL." Chao complained once the match was over, hanging his head in shame and embarrassment at what would come next.
"Believe me bro, Im just as shocked as you are. But this is fantastic for me." Ming grinned broadly, glancing at his twin and thinking for a moment. "And you know what this means.."
"Chao you bet on it! You shook hands on it, the whole damn thing! You can't go back now!" Ming laughed, tackling his cursing brother to the ground and pinning him, smirking in amusement. "Oh lord if Sam and Jon see this-"

From behind the anthro snake came a robotic voice. "Aren t you happy with us, my lady?" It belonged to a medium sized mechanical stork, painted white and had robotic cyan blue eyes.
"Oh, little one." the anthro gently petted the robo-stork. "Data, you're great to be around... but I need a child, a son or daughter..." The anthro sighed. "are your big brothers built and ready to begin Operation: Delivery?"
Data turned its head and looked behind him as two more robo-storks like him entered into the room. "We are ready, my lady. Does my lady have any preferences?"
"Just for fun, bring me an orphaned child. Now first, state the Procedure for capture and delivery." The anthro said.

He rubbed his eyes, getting to his feet. "Where am I?"
"You're in a cage." A familiar voice answered. "For now, at least."
Dread gripped Jungle Boy's belly. He ran to the bars to get a look outside. The cage was balanced on the dragoness's knee, and when looking down he could see a hammock, practically stitched together with too many animal skins to count supporting her, which was barely large enough for her standards. It was tied across a corner of the room, and the floor was still grass, as the dragoness didn't seem to mind it. The walls were numerous trees, stacked on top of each other, and she seemed to use the smaller branches from them as a roof, which let some light in, but not much.
Ender Family- Daddy's NightmareIt’d been a few weeks since the twins were born. Rythian was finally free of the makeshift sling and was back to studying in his magic room. “There it is” he muttered to himself feeling a newer magic type. It seemed to be shifting around as though disguising itself as he tried to pinpoint its location. “Who are you though? Mist or Sophie?” he asked himself trying to concentrate. His pearl started to freeze slightly having lost the magic type feeling a different presence that was c

They littered the floor like fallen stones. There was no pattern, no plan to how they fell. Though each was beautiful and entrancing on its own, together they were shapeless and disconnected like the wrong chord played on a piano or a guitar.
And then, all of a sudden, they moved.
The bodies lifted and then stretched. One tiptoed over here, another over there. Like graceful butterflies, they flowed across the stage, moving together and then apart. One broke free, and jumped up, up to the sky. Then, as if it suddenly remembered gravity, it fell back down to the floor. The others dropped with it, back to their disjointed formation.
But this time was different.
They still moved, still beat together. Their torsos pulsed in time with the music, up and down, up and down, then up! They rose again. This time they pulled in towards each other, getting closer and closer until they were physically one. Quick steps! A twirl! A jump forward, a jump back, and then -

I rummaged through the refrigerator, looking for something to eat. I didn’t see anything I wanted; just plastic containers of things too healthy for enjoyment. I sighed and glanced at my homework on the kitchen table. The cat sat upon it like a throne, his tail swaying softly. “No.” He said. I looked up at the top of the fridge and considered the boxes of baking mix that looked down on me.
“You’re horrible at baking.” The cat told me. I closed the fridge and peeked outside through the dirty window. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and children were gallivanting through the fields. “I would like to gallivant.” I said aloud.
“What about the murderers?” The cat asked. I glared at him. “Or the last time you went running in a field? Blood everywhere. Maybe you recall the children laughing? Or the
PostageI want to write her a letter. Letters are nice. She will like a letter.Postage16 hours ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This
I begin the difficult task of handwriting a personal letter, letting go of everything I ever held onto. My scribbles legible and full of sincerity, my words honest and true.
She will love me. We will live happily ever after.
One page after another slowly began to have it’s white purity stained by my cheap little number 2 pencil. A stack became a pile, a pile became a mound, and a mound a forest of towers of paper. My quest takes me nowhere, but goes through everything.
In a wrath of anger, I realized what I was doing. I kicked down the towers of paper, filled with my impurities, and they became mounds, then a pile, and now a single blank page lies before me on my cluttered desk.
It seems like years I have been at this. I haven’t seen the sun or the sky, or another person in an eternity. The sound of people talking and singing has become alien to me. I mutter and stutter and write and write and wri
SecretaryCeleste filed the latest stack of books and sighed heavily. This wasn't what she'd had in mind when she'd agreed to help out Death. Literally all she did at this job was file things and occasionally grab a ghost-coffee (because of course, real coffee would slosh straight through their skeletal frames) with one of Death's other associates. Her favourite colleague was a man who had been there so long he'd completely forgotten his own name. She and the others referred to him as "Nameless He", and despite his poor personal memory, was full of stories about being Death's apprentice. He'd held the position in the early days, and retired here to the paperwork section by choice after about 300 years riding.Secretary17 hours ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This

There was a sizeable rock on the outskirts of camp – one of many – a boulder that cast a decent pool of shade from the sun, and did little to deflect the cool, autumnal winter winds from ruffling Mar’s dusty and blood-flecked fur.
Yes, he was cold, in this place of repose, but none of the whelps that were his tribe-mates deigned to be, and so he was quite and happily solitary as he ate in the shadows. All else fancied staying warm in the sun as they milled about camp, keeping their small and fragile bodies un-chilled, lest some supernatural frost come to take their young, weak lives.
He smiled over the red-stained plumage of his kill, green eyes smug over the sight of kits cowering close to a red-furred queen as a gust of wind swept over camp, sending the mat of vines arustle on the hem of the gully.
His ears flicked. Still, this winter was so mild, it was not likely it would relieve his tribe of even its weakest members, s

Both of the team members wanted to get the newest Errand over as quickly as possible. Rosario to get out of the heat, and Mariette to avoid unnecessary socialising. They had been sent some saplings and seeds, so all they needed to do was plant them.
So there the duo were, at the big field planting. Rosario had resorted to watching, as he worried that his fire powers may accidently set alight to the plants, which was the last thing he wanted to happen. Mariette was carefully placing the seedlings and seeds in, then gently squirting them with water. She talked to the plants, much more than sh
