The front doors to the supermarket slid open as Cass inched into the building. Immediately pulling out her list to find what items she needed for her apartment. She has always been a sheltered type, avoiding any public interaction. She has never had the nerves to go out by herself and enjoy herself. Ever since her childhood, she never wanted to draw unwanted attention. This attitude has persisted into her adult life and she hated it. She wanted to be carefree and enjoy herself.
“Excuse me ma’am, but may I offer you a free sample of our new teriyaki steak bites?” A store clerk reached out a sample of the meat and offered it to Cass. Her nerves were getting the best of her but she grabbed the steak piece and popped it into her mouth. The flavors just exploded on her taste buds. The meat was sweet, spicy, juicy, and cooked perfectly. Cass’s eyes lit up the store clerk beamed a smile towards her. “Where do I buy more of these, please?” C

The shoppers were looking with mild interest at the cosmetic stand in the department store, one of many on the shop floor. The two assistants were wearing grey dresses with capped sleeves and a thin black belt around their waists, and knee length black leather boots, while red scarves were tied around their necks.
“So what sort of style are we talking about here?”
The two women looked at the tall, good looking dark skinned woman standing in front of the counter. She must have been at least six foot tall, and had the body of a model, the black sheath dress fitting her like a glove. The sides were sparkled, and the material ruffed, while she was also wearing a pair of over the knee black suede boots with a three inch heel and a black leather jacket.
“Take a seat madame,” the first woman said, “and tell us your name.”
“Janice,” she said as she sat do

Midnight had just passed over the silent city. All the humans slept in there warm beds, while dogs barked at the moon and the cats… were on their midnight stroll, purposely avoiding one building. They knew that this place was unlike all the other place they'd come across, for this place belonged to the creatures of the night, and tonight was when they where most active.
"Hey, no team-ups!" Shouted the oldest demon at the two dark shapes as they chased after the brown-haired woman.
"Sorry Deceal." The two youngest demons called out before they turned to each other and started to fight before the proxy woman threw her yo-yo in between them.
Deceal was the name of the older demons there. He was a twenty-nine year old blonde male, heavily scared and tall. His hair was long and pulled back into a pony tail with a long fridge that covered most of his face. The demon wore heavy clothes, a heavy leather jacket and thick trousers with dark boots and a thick knif

“It really is very kind of you to have me staying for Christmas this year, Karen – with your father passing on this year, I didn’t want to be alone.”
Karen smiled as she pulled up outside her flat, and turned off the engine of her Skoda Octavia. “It’s my pleasure Mum – the last thing either of us needs is a Christmas where we feel sad. Come on – I’ll show you the new flat.”
Karen smiled as her mother got out of the car. For a woman in her sixties, she still looked remarkably good, her greying hair cut into a short bob as she walked over the cobbles and onto the pavement. Gail was wearing a black leather jacket, v-necked jumper and a grey blouse with a frilled front, dark trousers and short black boots.
As for Karen, she was wearing a black military style jacket over a dark round necked top, grey pants and knee length brown boots, the legs of her pants covered by the tan leather.
Carrera de obstaculos -Vincent-Carrera de obstaculos -Vincent-5 hours ago in Short Stories More Like This

“What was I thinking then,” he asked himself.
“Probably the same things as me,” Katrina replied.
He jumped in his seat, and turned to see her leaning against the living room’s door frame. She was chewing on something, and he was a little afraid to learn what it was.
“Yours are more emotional. People can’t see them as well.”
She snorted as she came to sit with him. Her eyes were dull as she looked into the empty fireplace pit before them. Whatever she was chewing crunched loudly against her cheek.
“Yeah, people can see emotional scars. It just depends on what your triggers are and how well that person knows you.”
He frowned, “Maybe so, but if you wanted, people would never know you were sick in the head.”
She looked at him, and he almost feared he was about to have a new scar, but she looked away at the last possible cla

Waif marched sullenly into the castle; his hands bound behind him. He didn’t have anything to do with the rebellion against the Jarl; he was just an orphan, begging in the village that the Jarl’s brute squad raided. It had been utter mayhem, as men and boys alike were rounded up, bound and marched into the castle dungeons. The women and girls were led another direction, to what fate he couldn't guess. Th

It was midday when Genie and Marina had finished their touring of Greece. The longboat was now leaving the country but at a good enough speed for Marina to study the passing of the smaller Greek islands. With her smiling at the sight of the cute little villages nestled on the shores, Genie was going through his souveniers.
He put on his newly bought toga with olive branches on his ears and posed dramatically, "Behold O' Mighty Caesar Sal-Lad, in all his glory."

Yeah, I knew that, but there was so much material I needed to go over. Staring hard at the textbook, I tried to ignore the buzzing of my phone. Five minutes later I realized that I had been rereading the same paragraph over and over.
“Ugh!” I sighed loudly in disgust and flipped the book shut. The llama on the cover gazed back placidly. I shoved it off the table. I wonder what Sollux had said. I sighed again, this time in resigna

Ashe's MissionAshe's Mission17 hours ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This
The mission was simple: break in and retrieve six “subjects”; of course, nothing is ever that simple. The Institution had tighter security than Fort Knox and Area 51 combined. Believe me, I’ve broken into both.
My targets were fraternal twins, a black-haired boy and a redhead girl, a blonde girl, a snow-white haired girl, a flame-haired girl, and a brunette. The first three were Akira and Nyra Kurokawa and Lilly Quinn; the trio were strong psychokinetics. Next was Elizabeth Snow, Niko Smith—or so the institution calls her—and Lunaria de Winter. A demon tamer, a pyrokinetic, and a werewolf. Why they haven’t freed themselves already is beyond me, but I’ve been paid to get them out. I checked my watch. Fifteen minutes until the operation begins. Time to move into position.
As I moved through the edge of the forest, I inspected the clearing. Hundred feet of open field, guards watching out at all angles. I could take them out with my rifle, but that
Study Buddies“The library’s gonna close soon,” Anthony warned, glancing out the nearest window. The campus was darkened and appeared almost purple in the setting sunlight. Jason seemed to be ignoring him, still stooped over his chemistry textbook, scanning the same paragraph for the third time. The blond’s brow was furrowed in frustration, the hand that held his head off the table rubbing his temple as if to quell a headache. Anthony stared for a minute or two, anticipating some form of response, but, when it never came, he started to gather his things and shove them back into his backpack. He was startled, however, when a notebook was shoved aggressively in his direction.Study Buddies17 hours ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This

What you made meYou attempt to use words to cut like knifes. Yet, I have heard these words one to many times before, they've grown dull, as ineffective as digging out your heart with a plastic spoon. Why would you bring the same weapons to a whole new battle? Did you not think that I would learn and adapt? I may have started as your creation, but I have grown past that, I am something else entirely now. I fear not the results of my actions, for their are as calculated as the placement of the stars. What you made me20 hours ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This

He points to my old porcelain doll, Cecelia, and then flicks his eyes to me as he awaits my answer.
“Cecelia? Well, she was my best friend when I was a child. I lived in the country and was home-schooled. I didn’t know anybody else. You know that, Jack. Surely you have something similar from when you were that young, no?”
“No particular toy or trinket that you would spend all of your weekends, every lonely summer day playing with? Not a bicycle or a GI Joe figure? Nothing? I suppose it would be a bit different for you to have either of those on display, but you could at least identify. I used to have the best of times with ‘Celia—tea parties, walks through the pasture with my sister, bedtime stories when Mom and Dad were out of town and left us with our dreadful co
ConfessionsMerlin downed the last of his amber mead and wondered why he loved the little nymph Nimue so much. He had seen, of course, through her manipulations when she asked for protection against the multitude of stars in the sky and he gladly complied with a smile on his face, protecting her against the orbs with his powerful arms. He had laughed at this, but he did not realize the power of the young nymph's charms and he soon fell victim to her overpowering love.Confessions20 hours ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This
There was no fool like an old fool.
His love for her had become very serious and he had forgotten that it had all begun in good humor with a light touch. Certainly Nimue's plays were in that vein and he could see that he was being teased.
Now he had regained his good humor and as a result had seen Nimue again as she really was.
He remembered the signs of her deep love and laughed.
