huffs pUFFS FIRST PIECE FINISHED :iconsuperw00tplz:

This is one of two pieces I'll be showing at my Fine Arts club's autumn exhibit! *v* Traditionally, we're supposed to be doing oil paints but -- I noticed a fair number of club members said they'd be doing digital art for their pieces so I thought why not me too? I didn't think I'd be able to exert the best of my skills through a medium I'm barely familiar with anyway ;v; perhaps next year! Oil paints are really cool to work with but nahh- I still have two more years to spend in this club and I'll have plenty of chances to hone my traditional painting skills then~

As for the inspiration / theme behind this piece.. I actually just wanted to draw lots of skies, as you guys might know I love love LOVE SKIES HNGH ALL THE CLOUDS AND PRETTY STREAKS OF SUNLIGHT :iconhandspazzplz: I wanted to see if I could squeeze both dawn and sunset in one canvas, and after a bit of brainstorming I came up with the idea of including the sunset in a small canvas inside my canvas XD

On a more serious approach to the theme, I had a whim to express that... regret you feel about past events? The sunset in the canvas is supposed to symbolize the beautiful sunset that hung in the sky the day before. It's a new day today, the sunrise is lovely, but somehow you just can't forget the awe and beauty of the sunset you saw yesterday. And you know you won't be able to see that exact sunset ever again. You have to let go of it, there'll be countless more sunsets that are as beautiful as the one you saw, but somehow - the image is still burned in your mind to the point where you can't really appreciate the sunrise that's before your eyes at this moment. Sometimes we're blinded by past memories and regrets that we can't see the beauty of what's in the present- I feel it a lot personally. I guess I wanted to draw this to keep reminding myself that I should appreciate the present more. ;v;

It's quite fun to mix colors *v* I think I'm getting the hang of lineless painting and shading/texturing now!

This is second of three covers of the german version from the book 'Before the Fall' (Vor dem Fall) from Francis Knight. I did this cover for the german publisher 'Papierverzierer Verlag'.

**my personal favorite of the three book cover series**
I hope you like it too.

Book Cover #1:
6am: Fade to Black

Here is the book description:
'
MAHALA - CITY OF CONTRASTS. LIGHT AND DARK. HOPE AND DESPAIR.

Rojan Dizon just wants to keep his head down. But his worst nightmare is around the corner.

With the destruction of their power source, the vertical city of Mahala is crisis. Riots are breaking out, mages are being murdered and the city is divided. But Rojan's hunt for the killers will make him responsible for complete anarchy. Either that, or an all-out war. And there's nothing Rojan hates more than being responsible.

THE ADVENTURES OF ROJAN DIZON

A tale of corruption and dark magic set in a world that's both vertigo-inducing and awe-inspiring.'

This is the first demo for my “Epic Skies” tutorial series which is a part of my digital painting course called The Magic Box.

My friend Stephen and I were out for an evening walk-n-talk a few weeks ago. The sunset was amazing so we started looking for a higher vantage point. We turned a corner and spotted a football stadium on the campus of a nearby community college.

We hurried, trying to make it to the stadium before we missed our opportunity to see the sunset from the top of the stadium. Every door and gate was locked so, like the rule-bending high school kids we were twenty years ago, we jumped the fence and climbed to the top of the stadium.

As I hope you can see from the painting, the view was well worth the effort.

This was painted from a photo I took with my iPhone. I tried to keep the painting very loose and emotional without sacrificing a thoughtful design. Look at the high-res version to examine the brush strokes.

The brushes I used for this painting will soon be available on my website.
