I've been looking at a lot of wildlife photography of late (why?), as well as ye olde engravings of Elizabethan costume: hence, this picture. Drawn with Black Magic ink using a teeny sable brush, and colored in Photoshop.

Yeah, I sometimes wonder if this concepts turn out a little to cutesy or precious...but at least a piece like this gets me out of my comfort zone a bit (which is a good thing, I think?).

Recently I am wallowing further and further into my comfort zone, and finding things there I did not expect, and things I had long forgotten... It is sort of a 180 degree turn around from the concept of exiting the comfort zone, a deep, profound plunge, a concentrated exploration...

Though right now it is all "academic".... since my little dude was born, I actually have not placed pen to paper yet! I am hoping things will settle down in a month or two...

ironically, to backtrack in this conversation to check what we were talking about, you have to click on a button that says "parent"... it's kind of telling me, "hey, get off the computer and go take care of your kid!!"

of course, the little dude is in a deep sleep right now...
