Entry for the "alternate ending" contest at :iconphantom-of-da-opera: . Also an experiment with panel format.

In case you can't tell what the hell is happening in this pic (as may very well be the case - I'm not sure I handled this so well), some explanation:
In this Final Lair Scene, the Phantom has killed Raoul because, well, he's Raoul. He killed Mme. Giry because she was trying to stop him. He then killed Christine in a jealous rage. (He smothered her with a pillow! Literary reference! Get it?? Othello) So he's sitting there in despair while Meg, having found her way down there, witnessed the three murders and been driven totally batshit crazy, takes the letter opener from her mother's body (he stabbed her with a letter opener. It seemed appropriate) and kills our dear Erik. Then we have that iconic last Meg-holding-mask moment.
Or I could just tell you to imagine the last scene of Sweeney Todd and you'd get the idea... I guess this is sort of a crossover.

Line art drawn and inked traditionally, colored in Photoshop with tablet. A couple textures from some site I can't remember now. And I don't think you can even walk like that in pointe shoes, mleh

I love the idea, and the color scheme and the folds and shading on Meg's dress. But I was a little confused by the next to last panel--I didn't quite make the connection and couldn't tell if this was a new injury or if blood was leaking from around the pillow. I think if I'd thought about it more, I might have gotten it better but your explanation was there so I didn't take the time to puzzle it out.

Still, it's a nice piece and a good entry! There should be more crazy Meg.

Wow... excellent entry - but yeah, the next to last panel seemed like it was covering a wound. And killing Madame Giry? Dude, you're making this like the end of Hamlet where everyone dies. Anyhow, looks fab and good luck in the contest! :D

Thanks! Maybe if I added more obviously dripping blood in the second-to-last panel... Although I don't think I want to work on this anymore. :bored: I really wanted to do an "everyone dies" ending - the managers, Carlotta, Piangi, and Mssr. Reyer are most likely dead too. :evillaugh:

Thanks. Yes, that is rather unclear - I struggled with how to do that panel in particular. I was kind of disappointed because I didn't do justice to an idea I really liked, but ah well, experimentation... Glad you like it!

that is really clever, but second last panel Erik is dead right

Pictorial storytelling is hard. You're having to do two things at once that are hard enough by themselves.

So tragic, but I like the original idea.
