Works on so many levels, as Masterson is pretty much the Evil Counterpart to Simon:
Simon is nice, Masterson is an ass
Simon is badass (eventually), Masterson sucks
Simon combines with giant robot to fights with the other pilot (except that one time), Masterson cuts the heads of living robots to take over them.
