I woke up at 3 in the morning, but I could never go back to sleep.
I looked around the dark bedroom, eyes wide open, not seeing anything but the shadows, and the occasional flash of lightning that seeped through the cracks in the curtains.
I looked down. My feet were pointing at the door.
Unable to go to sleep, I tossed and turned. Finally giving up, I lay down, motionless, on my makeshift bed, looking around the wonder that used to be a room. The darkness seemed to transform it into something else.
I fix my eyes on something--anything, because maybe, just maybe, it would help me go back to sleep.
My eyes fall upon the door.
The darkness seemed to make it grow bigger, bigger, BIGGER.
I struggled to take my eyes off it. The darkness does strange things to your eyes. Finally, I was able to look away, into a wall.
A sudden, creeping darkness covered the wall I was looking at.
It was the door, eating up everything in the room.
A dark door. It would not give up.
I closed my eyes, and let the door take me wherever it can.
