*random-one contacted me about making an image, something for her character, Avani. The color, she said, she made up, and it really is unique. The original char is along the lines of a roan-dun, with a long, flowing mane/tail, feathered hooves, dapples and with a large white spot covering the back; somewhat akin to a blanket. I chose to leave the white spot out in this version since I figured I'd get a lot of "wth is that thing?"

I don't know. When I look at the completed piece, it just strikes me as if it's the last unicorn, standing on a clifftop and futilly searching for others of its kind. The sort of feeling I get is that they were hunted to extinction, and this last one flees in terror, though never stops looking for those of its kind.

It actually makes me kind of sad. But, then again, I'm a soft hearted wimp, too.


I'd been staring at the cliff stock from ~The-strawberry-tree since she loaded them, but I could never quite put them in an image until this one. I'm very pleased with them though; they're gorgeous pics. I had to put four together to make it large enough for a subject to sit comfortably on them, but it was worth it.

~starrynight-stock provides some great horse stock, too, ontop of being an incredibly nice person. (Did I say nice? I meant a pain in the ass... ) I couldn't find any roans that suited me, so I decided to say screw it, and repainted a chestnut to match what I wanted. So, from white socks went black, and a darker brown to fade into the body that I had to change, too. The position, thankfully, I didn't have to work with, but I had to erase the blaze and yadda yadda. Pain the mane/tail/horn, enhance features, all the usual jazz. ~SalsolaStock was kind enough to supply the dapples.
