Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston were two of Disney’s greatest animators. I really wanted to pay tribute to them in my own way.

I looked at a lot of caricatures and tried my own hand at drawing them in this slightly cartoony and stylized way. Frank is actually a variation of my own observations and a rather famous caricature that Ward Kimbal drew. Ollie was a lot harder to draw for some reason, but thankfully inspiration struck when I was watching Peter Pan and Mr. Smee cocked his head to the side. At just the right angle he looks like Ollie! So my version of Ollie is actually a modified Mr. Smee! Lol

Anyway, I love these two guys. They’re animation is amazing and still astounds me to this day. If you get a chance, try to find the documentary “Frank and Ollie.”

In spite of everything you've done, eventually they will hate you.

Has a sort of "Staler and Waldorf" feel to it.

I'll have to look into these people, they sound interesting. I'll be the first to admit I'd love to know more than I do.

The fact I know it's from Batman The Animated Series!

You might’ve actually already have seen them before and not realized it. They are featured as cameo’s in both of Brad Birds first 2 films “The Iron Giant” and “The Incredibles” and they’ve been referred to many times before in numerous Disney cartoons over the years (such as Micky Mouse going to see Dr. Frankenollie in “Brain Drain”;)

Yeah, I read up on them in Wikipedia and those cameos. I distinctly remember them in The Incredibles because I'd just seen it. I'll have to look for them in The Iron Giant. I can somewhat recall them, but not quite as well.

I saw more Tax Avery, Looney Toon cartoons in my youth than Disney, so I'll have to try to find some of those cartoons. I find it REALLY hard to get into "modern" Mickey adventures for the most part.

well, they weren't so much animators of Mickey Mouse... that was more Fred Moore's territory... but yeah... modern mickey mouse cartoons can't hold a candle to the stuff they use to make. I love Tex Avery too, but in the end their work is nothing but gags gags and more gags. No real substance. Frank and Ollie brought real characters to the screen and infused them with so much personality it's almost painfull to see how far we're dropped since they've passed on... The golden era is truely over...

There are spikes now and again, but for the most part the era of more meaningful cartoons is either over or on extreme hiatus.

Heck, I miss the early 90s with some of its cartoons. Brief period of good cartoons, namely my favorite, the Timm Batman. Makes sense considering it was inspired by the Fleischer Superman shorts.
