Chapter 4: Natane, Challenge #1!

Ryno, Cubone and Arcanine are standing in front of the Hakutai City gym.
“Well, this is it.” Ryno says as he sighs.
Cubone and Arcanine look at Ryno.
“Are you guys ready?” Ryno asks.
Cubone and Arcanine both nod as Ryno opens the large door.
The door closes behind Ryno and he looks around.
“Hello?” Ryno shouts.
Suddenly a bright spotlight shines on Ryno and his Pokémon.
“Welcome to the Hakutai City Gym. You may walk over to the Trainer Plateau.” A female voice says.
Ryno sees the Trainer Plateau right in front of him and walks towards it.
“The battle will end as soon as either your or my Pokémon are defeated.”
“The trainer is allowed to use only 3 of his party’s Pokémon, so it will be a 3 on 3 Pokémon battle.” The female voice says.
Ryno steps on the Plateau. “I don’t have 3 Pokémon yet, I only have 2, is that a problem?” he asks.
“Not at all, if you wish to battle me with 2 Pokémon, that’s your choice.” The female voice says.
Suddenly the Plateau, which Ryno is standing on is starting to rise.
“Woa” Ryno says as he quickly grabs a hold of the railing.
The lamp on the other side goes on and Ryno sees a girl with brown hair and a green cloak.
“I’m Natane Leader of the Hakutai City Gym, pleased to meet you.” Natane says.
“Likewise.” Ryno says as he closes his eyes and tries to get a moment of peace.
“Field light’s on please” Natane shouts.
When the field light’s go on, Ryno sees a very clean and well mowed grass field.
“You may choose you’re Pokémon” Natane says as she looks at Ryno.
Ryno looks down at Cubone and Arcanine.
“Oh by the way, it isn’t very wise to show your opponent which Pokémon you have.” Natane notes.
“Oh that’s okay.” Ryno says “I don’t mind.”
“Very well.” Hatane says.
Arcanine kneels in front of Cubone, showing him that he may choose.
Natane is impressed “Wow, looks like your two Pokémon have a lot of respect for each other.”  she says.
Cubone nods and makes his way to the field. He stops at the center of the field, throws his bone in the air, catches and makes a slash.
“Oh wow, your Cubone looks brave.” Natane says with a smirk.
“Ignore it Cubone, you can do it.” Ryno says, while ignoring Natane’s taunting.
“Very well, Vileplume, I choose you!” Natane says as she throws the Pokéball towards the field.
The Pokéball opens and a Flower Pokémon comes out of it.
Ryno quickly grabs his Pokédex and looks.

Vileplume:
“Its petals are the largest in the world. As it walks, it scatters extremely allergenic pollen.”

“Alright, Cubone, watch out. This Pokémon is Poisonous, keep your distance!” Ryno shouts.
A referee, holding two flags, one red and one green, steps on the field.
“Gym battle starts now!” he shouts.
“Vileplume, Sunny Day!”  Natane shouts.
A bright lights shines over the field and the temperature rises as Vileplume’s core is glowing.
Ryno thinks. “Perhaps I should’ve chosen Arcanine, since Cubone can’t do long distance attacks yet.”
“What are you waiting for?” Natane shouts at Ryno.
Cubone looks over his shoulder to Ryno and triest to connect with him. “Come on, trust me Ryno, I can pull this off!” he thinks.
Ryno suddenly hears a soft voice. “Come on, trust me Ryno, I can pull this off!”
He looks at Cubone and sees him nodding.
“Alright! Cubone Bonemerang!” Ryno shouts as he points at Vileplume.
Hatane looks surprised by Ryno’s sudden mood change.
Cubone aims, swings and throws the bone towards Vileplume.
“Vileplume dodge it!” Natane shouts
Vileplume steps aside and lets the bone pass him.
“Haha, looks like you still need some target practice!” Natane shouts with a smirk.
Ryno shakes his head. “It’s not over yet!” he shouts.
“What do you mean?” Natane asks.
“What does a boomerang do?” Ryno asks copying Natane’s smirk.
“Vileplume, watch out!” Natane shouts.
Vileplume turns around and sees the bone coming right towards him.
Unlucky enough, Vileplume isn’t able to dodge it, and gets struck right in the head.
Vileplume walks around dizzy and then falls on the ground.
“Oooooh headshot!” Ryno shouts and laughs a little.
Cubone runs, jumps and catches his bone.
He turns around, looks at Ryno and nods.
Ryno looks at Cubone and nods back.
“Vileplume is unable to continue the battle, Cubone wins!” says the Referee as he holds his red flag up.
“Playtime is over, Turtwig go!” Natane shouts as she throws the Pokéball in.
Ryno looks at his Pokédex.

Turtwig:
“It undertakes photosynthesis with its body, making oxygen. The leaf on its head wilts if it is thirsty”

“Turtwig, tackle!” Natane shouts.
“Woa” Ryno says as he quickly closes his Pokédex. “Cubone, Headbutt!” he shouts.
Turtwig tries to tackle Cubone, but Cubone counters with his Headbutt causing Turtwig to bounce back.
“Vine Whip, Now!” Natane shouts.
“Cubone, look out!” Ryno shouts as he grabs a hold of the railing.”
Turtwig hits Cubone with his vines, which makes him fall on the ground, rolling over.
“C’mon Cubone, get up, you can do it!” Ryno shouts.
Cubone crawls back up and recovers.
“Alright Cubone, time for a combo!” Ryno shouts
“Turtwig, tackle!” Natane shouts.
“Cubone, Agillity!” Ryno shouts.
The two close in on each other.
“Okay Cubone, Bonemerang!” Ryno shouts.
“Turtwig, dodge it again!”
Turtwig jumps sideways dodging the attack but leaving him open for another attack.
“Alright now! Cubone Headbutt!” Ryno shouts as he points towards Turtwig.
Natane screams “Turtwig, look out!”
Turtwig gets struck by Cubone’s Headbutt.
Turtwige rolls over the ground and crashes against the plateau.
“Turtwig!” Natane shouts as she looks over the railing. “Are you all right?” she asks.
Turtwig quickly recovers and runs towards Cubone.
“Cubone, look out he’s coming!” Ryno shouts.
Cubone quickly turns around and runs toward Turtwig.
Both trainers aren’t giving their Pokémon orders and just watch to see what happens.
The two hit each other with their hardest tackle and bounce back on the ground.
Both of the Pokémon aren’t trying to get back up.
“Draw!” The referee shouts.
Both trainers call their Pokémon back into their balls.
“All right, now It’s one on one!” Ryno shouts to Natane.
“Indeed it is Ryno. Give it your best!” Natane shouts back.
Both trainers look determined to win.
Ryno looks over the railing, down to Arcanine.
“Now it’s all up to you. Ready?” Ryno asks.
Arcanine nods and howls.
Arcanine runs up onto the field, and waits for his opponent.
“Victreebell, I choose you!” Natane shouts and throws the Pokéball onto the field.
Another Plant Pokémon comes out of the Pokéball.
Ryno points his Pokédex to Victreebell, and let’s his device scan it, for his database.
Then he puts the Dex back into his pocket.
“Arcanine, Agility!” Ryno shouts.
“Victreebell, Vine Whip!” Natane shouts.
“Arcanine, jump up!” Ryno commands
Aracanine immediately jumps up.
“Let’s finish this Arcanine, Flame Thrower!” Ryno shouts.
“Noooo!” Natane shouts.
Victreebell gets covered with Arcanine’s Flames.
Arcanine lands on the ground and stops.
Victreebell blows out some smoke and falls on the ground.
“Victreebell is unable to continue, Ryno from Kannagi Town wins!” The referee shouts.

Ryno jumps over the railing down and runs over to Arcanine.
Arcanine turns around and runs towards Ryno.
Ryno then slides over the ground and catches Arcanine in his arms.
“We did it!” Ryno cheers.
Ryno calls out Cubone.
Cubone comes out of his Pokéball, still a little bit sore from the battle.
Ryno grabs Cubone and hugs him roughly.
Cubone, who is surprised by the hug, screams out of pain.
“Oh, sorry, sorry!” Ryno apologizes as he jumps around.
Cubone sighs.
Natane walks over and puts her hand on Ryno’s shoulder.
“You did great!” Natane congratulates.
“You are now the proud owner of the Forest badge.” She says as she hands over the badge.
Few minutes later the three are sitting in a room, in the Pokémon center.
“That sure was a rough battle wasn’t it?” Ryno says as he lets himself fall on to the bed.
He throws his bags on the ground and closes his eyes.
Cubone jumps on the top bunk of the bunk-bed, while Arcanine lies on the carpet in front of the fireplace with his eyes closes.
“Well done guys, well done.” Ryno says as he slowly falls asleep.
