Artist's Comments

Did this for my mom. It's slightly larger than a king-sized quilt. I hadn't quite finished it when I took the picture, but all I really lacked was trimming off the stray strings and finishing the quilting. Hindsight being 20/20, I should've used all dark green as the background instead of the light and the dark. I'll know better next time. I do plan on making another one - only with much smaller squares. I used 3" x 3" squares on this one. I think in my next one, I'll use 1.5" x 1.5" and make a throw-sized quilt.

It was machine pieced and hand quilted (couldn't get it to fit through the machine to quilt it).

Total of about 50 hours of work.

eeep! That's amazing! I was watching a craft/quilting show on PBS. You're right up there with the best of'em. How did you design the pattern?

That's really pretty. Great job on selecting the colors to get the shape of the flower. :)

Thanks. :) I wouldn't place myself up there with the best of them, but thank you. :) To make the pattern, I took a picture of a daisy and blacked out the background. Then I reduced the size of the image to 48 x 36 pixels and then reduced the color on the image to 8 colors. I had to do a little clean-up on it once I reduced the colors. I'll post an image of my pattern in just a minute. I'm also working on a poppy pattern

Thanks. :) I just posted my pattern to my scraps if you're interested.

I kinda like the dark outline of the flower and the light, garden-y background. All dark green would be boring. This is huge. I think my next would be a 1.5 x 1.5 TOTAL sized one. lol.
Wonder if you could put this in the vector art category? j/k but it would be funny.

Nicely done. I think it's so neat that you made your pattern from a photograph. I'd like to try that sometime.

Thank you very much. It was quite a fun project. Probably would've been more enjoyable if I hadn't obsessed over getting it done in 4 weeks. :)

Thank you. I originally had intended to make the whole background that light gardeny green. But when I went to cut out the squares, I was about 1/2 a yard short of having enough fabric. And I couldn't find any more of that particular fabric. The dark green does make the flower stand out more. :)
