Broken

After about 30 hours of work, and months of churning it in my mind, here it is, my drawing inspired by the song "Broken" by Seether & Amy Lee. I tweaked it a bit digitally, mainly lighting effect, but ">>here<<" is the original if you are interested. (Even that looks beter than it is on paper for some reason.) This would be this first time, I'm linking art and muisc, outside of my videos, so this is the introductry work to many more pieces to come. I already have too many backed up in my mind, and I'll start working on them as I reach the level of skill required XD.

So how it came about... well, it was just one of those songs that after hearing it several times, I just had to draw it. But it was between the school year, so I was waiting till summer. Then our art teacher assigned us a task to draw a song, so I took that as the oppotunity to draw this. I went out and got a rose XD and stuff, and I asked my mom to get me a frame, and she came back with this exact frame, broken and everything!! The rose was Withering by the time I set up the still life a couple days later. This was back in Febuary XD Yea, thats how long I work on stuff for thanks to school. Well, finally I made the time to work on it, sacrificing a lot of school, and sleep time hehe but well, it's worth it.

I lot of ideas floated in my head, but the rose I've always wanted to do, my favorite flower, so much symbolism. Then I listened to the song, and it's lyrics, then the "Hold you high and still your pain away, I keep your photograph..." caught me, so I changed it, at 1st I was going to do an outside scene, and at a guy in the background, but in the end this was the idea that stuck. I wanted to make it a dark picture, but didn't want to color an enttire white paper black, so I decided to try a new medium, colored pencils on black paper, I'll definitely be working on that again. Yea, so I took my colored pencils on a 20in by 27in paper :'( so, now several of my pencils are a whole inch shorter.

Well, when all is said and done, I wanted to make a drawing I will be happy with, I pushed myself realy hard, and worked around my weakness, the first thing I colored was the rose, and after I did that I knew the entire drawing had to live up to the rose, so so it did. I'm satisfied with the original work, and happy with the completed one. Reason I mention that is that I'm Rarely happy with my work, and so this is the 1st time, in a loooong time I'm happy with one.

***Some symbolism, well, the first thing that came to mind was love, heart broken and such, so the rose had to be there, then the picture frame, I wanted that broken, to represent something that was once there. I found a picture of a couple and stuck it in there, that the glass was cracked right betwwen them XD nice.. Then I wanted a window, where it's draw outside, there is a clear curtian also, for those of you who don't know what it was. And then the lamp. The chocolate bok I added just to balance it out... I still kindda feel there's too much space. So well, in the broken picture, it's light, the sun's shining, and outsied right now, dark, and rainny. And the lamp is shedding light on the scene. XD yea... lol, thats fine if you don't see it.
