For all FanArtists here! Feel free to use it, if you like! Only please fave it, that's how I can guess how many people support this.
Oh, wait, one more condition: you can put it, only if you really don't draw FanArt because of pageviews.
Mkay...
Did you ever happen to meet people who don't respect fanart and call fanartists "fame searchers"? Did you ever happen to meet in the description to the picture such words: "I need some more pageviews, so I drew this". Maybe it was a joke, but still that's not funny to me (or I simply don't get it).
I personally think that fanartists aren't worse than any other artists here, isn't it? Sure, there can be some of fanartist who really care only about popularity, but I don't think they are real fans of what they are drawing.
Anyway...
I don't really care about pageviews, I just draw what I like. That can be original characters, that can be fanart. I think people who tell: "I'm not amused, he has so many pageviews. He draws a lot of fanart..." or something like that, are simply jealous. They say that drawing Fan Art is easier, than developing your own style. Maybe, maybe...But even if you draw fanart, it doesn't mean you needn't use your skills and imagination. Your art won't be noticed if it's badly drawn and doesn't have any originality. So no matter if you draw original characters or fanart, it's important how you draw.
And I don't really know why some of the brilliant artist here aren't so well-known. Well, they know they are good, that's the main thing, not the number of pageviews. I do celebrate pageviews, but I don't pay so much attention to them, I won't let them decide what should I draw.
Then I'm proud to be FanArtist! Why? Fanart is necessary! When the show (or whatever it is ) is still on, fanart can give creators some ideas, when it's closed, fanart helps the show live in our memory. Isn't it great? And btw it's really interesting to know, how other people see the subject, compare with your feelings for it.
It would be nice, if you tell your opinion! I'll definitely answer to you, but unfortunately not now, because I still have a lot of work (oh, it seems endless! )
That's true! I never thought about it like that, but I also draw Fanart because I WANT to. I love getting pageviews and seeing them increase, but I don't draw fanart FOR pageviews. I draw what I like too! Good stamp, I'm going to use it!
I also think that people get inspired by other artists. Anything that's fanart is art of another artists that you love or characters that you love and they inspire you because of that love. You get better because of the fanart and are able to work on your own things and style!
Ach.. pageviews.. just seem pointless now, really. Yeah, it was a big deal when I first started, like "OMG I HAVE 100 PAGEVIEWS!! Let's throw a party!!!"
The fanart thing is true - but only for some artists. My most favoured piece in my gallery in the Chrno icon - even though it's a screencap. The work that I spent hours over doesn't get as much recognition, probably 'cause it's not anime fanart... Others gain millions of pageviews, mostly by doing other anime-style work. But you got loads of pageviews 'cause your art is awesome!!
I guess art theft also comes into it somewhere too...

I haven't met people like that, and not even people that look down upon them. I believe somebody can be motivated to spend more time in creating something because of their fans (and I admit that motivates me too a bit, but it will not decide what I will create.) I like feedback on my work, but I don't compete for pageviews. I barely notice them, actually.
I agree about the fanart vs. non-fanart pics. Look at daily Popular section, I think there you can find fanart AND non fanart too, and the DD section rarely gets a fanart piece. I think this site appreciates originality, but drawing fanart takes enegry too, no matter if I draw Wonka or Chii or my own character, it still may take me a couple of hours/days.
AGREED. The only *real* reason for drawing fan art of any kind, is because you are an ACTUAL FAN.
...and... I don't know how many pageviews I have right now... XD

As a lover and creator of fan art, I absolutely agree 100% with your stamp and your views. I can definitely appreciate a great piece of fan art as much as an original piece of art but as you've mentioned, there will always be badly drawn art regardless of whether it's original or fan art.
Also, fan art is a testament to how inspirational a show/cartoon/movie etc. to one person's creativity. For example, the works of Jhonen Vasquez definitely helped get me out of a creative rut I had been in for so long. Another personal example I can give for your points about giving a long cancelled show new life through fan art is "Daria". I came across the show on YouTube last late summer/fall and I fell in love with a ton of the characters and I just had to draw them all.
Most importantly, like you, I don't draw fan art for the pageviews but because it's what I felt like drawing at the moment or something just inspired me to do it and it just needed to be placed onto paper.
If only I had a subscription for stamp usage, I would definitely have that one in my journal but I guess I'll have to fave it for now.
Speaking of fanart... It annoys me when somebody opens their mouth and tells that everyone doing fanart is a patchetic and just wants pageviews and fav. There's so many different kinds of fanart. There might be people who think that only if you make a almost straight copy of some cartoon character, it's fanart. And then there's people who think that if you draw a potrait of Johnny Depp or say in artist's comments that someone's work inspired you to draw the picture, it's fanart. And there's nothing wrong with drawing fanart, on some cases it might be even more interesting that original art.
On the other hand, if somebody is a fan of something extremely popular, they'll get really popular in dA, but someone, who is as good drawer as that person, but a fan of something less popular, will never get that much fame. I don't know ihow many those who draw, let's say Kingdom Hearts fanart, are just searching for fame, but some of them are really popular, and there's other really good fanartists with hardly any pageviews just because they're fans of something less popular.
I hardly ever look to see how many page-views I get. I just love drawing weird cartoon characters And I also really love your comment "fanart helps the show live in our memory" - so very true
Fanart (and fanfiction) too is a way to express your affection towards the characters in the show you like. It makes them seem more alive (at least for me anyway) and as I draw their features I can sometimes almost feel their vital signs - better stop typing before I start sounding crazy
Cool stamp

So is this the part where you explain to me your diobolical plan? - Seamus Harper = vs
Agreed, Fan-art does really keep a show alive. I had completely forgotten about Pepper Ann until I ran across a picture. It's also interesting to see different people's perspective on a character.
Also, who says fan-art is easier to draw? When you're drawing your own way it just comes naturally (to me anyways), and you just do it. But with fan-art you have to keep looking a references and stuff. Easy my A**.
(sorry for my stupid incoherent little ramblings)
If I had a Subscription I'd totally use this (although I don't think of myself as a fan-artist), meh, Fave.
If pageviews were all I wanted I'd sell my soul, check my brain at the door and start drawing z@dder (It's okay it's okay not gonna happen not gonna happen!)
My views are shared by some (but not all that many) in this fandom, but discouraged is the LAST thing I get! Instead I believe it's even more important to keep drawing what I do, because if I don't draw it, there aren't many who will.
