Careers are a major part of the Asotus game, as this choice affects your asotus' story, Kalawa, and even their offspring! Previously, the career and Kalawa systems were kept separate, but now they are tied together for the sake of simplicity. On this page, you can find an overview of the system as well as links to related pages so that you get started choosing your asotu's path!
What are careers?
A career is your asotu's discipline or, in the case of feral asotus, their lifestyle. Currently, their are seven career choice options: fishing, rescue, hunting, police work, obedience, racing, and feral.Each career is comprised of 5 ranks for your asotu to work through to reach the top: novice, apprentice, proficient, expert, and kaumoi.
As your asotu advances ranks, they will receive access to various prizes and perks. How you choose careers for your asotus is completely up to you. You may choose the same one for multiple asotus, or vary their careers depending on their personality!
How do I choose a career for my asotu?
First, you will want to browse the various career pages to see which one will best fit your asotu. You can navigate to the pages by clicking one of the icons below:
After you've chosen your asotu's path, your next step will be to complete their Kalawa to make your choice official. Once their Kalawa has been completed and judged, they will be a novice at their career and will be free to work through the ranks!

Advancing Ranks
After completing your asotu's Kalawa, you will need to take the following steps to advance their rank in their career:
Complete the necessary tasks for career advancement (found below) and earn the SB required to rank up. The tasks are the same no matter the career. Complete your rank advancement image to turn in with your tasks and your SB fee. Unlike tasks, advancement images are different for each career. You can find the prompts for advancement images on the individual career pages. Leave a comment on the following thread with all the required items. To count, the asotu you are earning the rank for MUST be in the image/literature piece. Tasks do not have to be completed in order. For example, if the asotu in question places in a mini-competition while they're still an apprentice, that placement can still be used for their expert advancement.Novice to Apprentice

Complete 3 of the following tasks and pay 100 SB
Complete 3 Career Board objectives (can be stacked with previous tiers) Face 3 mini-bosses or rookery bounties (can be stacked with previous tiers) Compete in 3 mini-competitions and/or rookery shows (can be stacked with previous tiers) Complete a cooperative dungeon run Earn four achievements with that asotu Participate in a major boss event (such as Awakening of the Ancient Beasts) Complete one of each quest types: gathering, basic, and cooperativeProficient to Expert

Q: Why did Asotus switch from the art point system to the new way of doing things?
A: The admin team felt it'd be best to do this for several reasons! First and foremost, the TP system was just too tedious, both for us and for members to keep track of. We also wanted to deviate a bit from the "standard species ARPG model" so that our members can experience something a little different. We hope that this new way of doing things will help things run a lot faster when it comes to rank advancement!
Q: What do I do if I've been working on gathering TP and finishing rank images?

A: We will have a month long transitional period so that you can finish up any TP or rank images you wanted to do with the old system. After this, all future rank-ups must be conducted through the new system.
Q: What about all the meat I have from events?
A: Same as above: you will have a month to use them. After that, you will be able to trade in them for SB!
Q: Why is there an SB fee for completing rank-ups?
A: The SB fee exists to encourage participation in group activities, such as the Career Board, in order to earn SB. The art it takes to earn the SB required for a rank-up also replaces the art you would have had to do to amass the required TP. Keep in mind that you will also be earning SB toward the rank just by doing some of the tasks, such as quests!

A: You might find it beneficial to make a st.ash file with your asotu's information in it to keep track of how many quests, job board postings, etc they've done! Here are some well-done examples:
