Appearance
Hideki appears to be an older man, and is frequently teased by the younger generations for his age compared to the rest of the Gotei. By far, he is the oldest captain as all original 13 captains of the Gotei had been killed off in previous disputes. Though some come close to his age, it’s apparent that he’s the grandfather compared to them all. Hideki’s wrinkles are most visible under his eyes, forehead, and at the corners of his lips and eyes which are marked with little crows feet. The wrinkles around his face appear more etched into his skin when he smiles, which usually is nothing more than a little quirk of his lips in the opposite direction. Hideki, on the other hand, isn’t bothered by aging, though he does worry about how his age might soon affect his battle skills. Growing up as a lithe assassin, he fears his joints will someday become too stiff and painful for him to be able to move like he used to. However, this seems to just be a worry, and something that probably won’t happen for quite some time. Nevertheless, the man usually takes good care of himself and prides himself in his own fashion sense, strangely enough, and the style of his beard which he usually finds himself rubbing in thought. Though, speaking of hair, it marks itself as a dark brown, littered with strands of gray among his bangs and sideburns; he hasn’t grayed as much as he thought, and really that can only be thanked by genes.

Being far from a traditionally handsome man, Hideki has a short stature, thin frame, and is often picked at for being one of the shortest male captains. However, with what he lacks in height, Hideki makes up for in physique. His body is slim, yes, but muscular in which it resembles that of a swimmer or a marathon runner. Mostly made up of lean muscle and very little fat, Hideki prides himself in maintaining his body to the best of his ability, as honestly, it’s the only thing he really has going for him. His skin, on the other hand, is olive and rough. Though Hideki’s face remains untouched for the most part his body is littered with scars and tattoos around his biceps, wrists, ankles, and navel. The most prominent scar is one reaching from the top of his neck down to his groin, which is the main reason why he wears a skin-tight latex fabric in the style of a turtleneck sweater. Hideki’s arms are severely burned, however, and this only fuels his hatred for those who hold Zanpakuto of fire. He absolutely abhors infernos and perhaps has a distinct phobia of it, but won’t admit it. He refuses to fight anyone with a fire type Zanpakuto, and usually avoids them out of disgust.

His face is round despite his angular body, and his cheekbones are almost completely unnoticeable. With a typical Greek nose which he got from his mother, his ears remain large and his eyes a bright, vibrant green which, when caught in the correct light, might reflect some instances of hazel or brown around the iris. His eyes are squinted with age, though naturally almond shaped and at a slight slant. Hideki’s eyebrows remain thick and curved upwards, usually furrowed together accompanied by a deep frown or perhaps a taunting smirk which is rare enough on its own. Emotions, on the other hand, are something that Hideki finds hard to accomplish. With years of battle under his belt, he’s almost become unresponsive to most instances that would naturally frighten a regular Shinigami. His facial expression is inevitably neutral and usually uninterested -- scowling when displeased with something or someone is an option as well.

Clothing and looking good is strangely important to Hideki. He doesn’t wear anything close to a regular Shinigami’s uniform and has altered it with trinkets and various modifications to give himself his own original look. He doesn’t like looking like a carbon copy of someone else, and prefers to be his own person rather than a cookie cutter Captain-Commander. Nonetheless, he wears a long, emerald green scarf over his captain’s haori. With a brown obi sash tied in a knot at the side, he usually keeps his sealed Zanpakuto tucked in between it, sometimes resting his hand on it when he gets annoyed or impatient. His lower hakama is tucked into knee-length boots with a single green stripe going down the middle. The back of it is completely open with no sleeves, similar to the style of the uniforms the members of the Onmitsukido wear. Underneath it is a skin-tight latex shirt which goes from just under his chin to just below the tips of his fingers. It’s used as a way to hide his scars, but he can also use it when performing Shunko. The pressure does not cause this fabric to break away from the skin, and was specially designed by Division 12. Hideki always wears these strings with stars attached to the endpoints, which were given to him by his Zanpakuto spirit. They are a way to honor them, as he and his spirit share a close bond. Finally, without further ado, he has a purple fur collar and wears a green jewelry piece on the center of his forehead.

Personality
Hideki Miyamoto is a man of tradition, following most traditional Japanese rules such as removing shoes before entering a house and offering his guests slippers to wear instead. When sitting, he prefers to sit in a seiza position, which is the formal sitting position for both men and women in Japan. Hideki encourages his guests to follow suit in mimicking his traditions, and is often proclaimed as pushy and the type of person that stuffs his ideals down other people’s throats. Either way, he’s incredibly stubborn and judgemental and is the true epitome of someone who judges a book based on its cover. First impressions mean everything to him and once you get off on a bad start with Hideki, it’s almost impossible to try and reverse his opinion on you. Rarely does he ever give second chances, and this is one of the reasons why Hideki has so few relationships with other people in the Gotei 13. He comes off as quiet and angry, which is true nonetheless, and this puts a number of people off. Most fear him, though despite this, he actually doesn’t have much of a temper. Hideki is a fairly calm and collected individual who doesn’t react readily to many things. As stated, he harbors a stone heart that is rarely pierced by feelings of love or sadness, and more or less has become apathetic to many things.

He has a habit of not caring about other people unless it will directly benefit him in some way shape or form. In some instances he can learn to care deeply for other people, but this is hard to come by. Years of emotional abuse have caused him to hold terrible trust issues in which he’s come to dislike people as a whole. What he does care about, on the other hand, is primarily the well-being of the Gotei 13. Though before he couldn’t have cared less about becoming the Captain-Commander, the position has evidently grown on him in ways he never would have thought. It showed him that he is, indeed, a natural born leader. Hideki enjoys being in the limelight, and the taste of power has irreversibly transformed him into almost a power hungry individual. Hideki almost always has to be in charge in some way shape or form, and has a tendency to take control of situations that really aren’t his.

Rarely does he ever help people, and for the most part, is a very small-minded, self-centered man with terrible values. Hideki cannot make friends, and generally pushes people away with the feeling that they’re probably going to turn on him in the future. Though Hideki doesn’t show it, he’s awfully paranoid about losing his position and being exiled, which really almost happened to him and certainly scarred him to some extent. He knows he’s corrupted and has made plenty of mistakes during his time as Captain-Commander, and he’s also aware that some of the older captains know about this. For that reason, he keeps people at an arms length and does not, under any circumstances, let people get close to him. Emotionally immature, he does not know how to handle emotional situations and people coming up to him with personal issues or feelings. Romance seems almost impossible, but really, it’s probably the one thing that could save him from becoming completely incapable of loving, or caring, at all. Hideki knows he’s alone, and usually spends his nights by himself with a book, or in some cases, perhaps a highly paid prostitute.

In combat, Hideki is silent and stealthy, though when angered or provoked, can become violent and, of course, terribly frightening. Trained to be a Commander, he is well versed in all areas but naturally excels in hoho and hakuda. Hideki prefers to fight with his hands and can easily take out two average captain level Shinigami without his Zanpakuto. However, with his Zanpakuto he becomes much more confident and his fighting style almost changes completely. Nevertheless, he hates fighting when he doesn’t feel like it, and will make it prominent in his body language. Hideki usually, in this case, acts bored, uninterested, and careless when caught in a battle that he doesn’t appreciate or find all too interesting at all. It’s hard to get Hideki hyped up about fighting as he’s just about seen and done it all, though there are a few opponents out there that probably could give him a run for his money. Hideki, to this day, sees himself as the most powerful man in the Soul Society, but though this may be true in his eyes, it’s also terribly wrong.

All in all, Hideki isn’t someone’s ideal best friend. Though angry and quiet, Hideki does have some good traits deep down within that hard outer shell. Despite his apathetic behavior, he does feel the need to protect other members of the Gotei 13 for the sake of the military branch’s well-being. When he does become emotionally involved in someone, one can bet that he will protect them with his life. Hideki is intelligent, wise, loyal, and generally respectful to other people if they show they deserve such. Though he puts himself first most of the time, he does have the ability to think of others if they can manage to break through his general disgust of people. Hideki desperately wants to believe that people really aren’t as bad as they seem, but so far, it’s been a little hard for him to think otherwise.
