I’ve had these feathers as long as I remember
down and flights and coverts
great glossy primaries
like old friends.
covered a lot of miles
had some fine old times
my feathers and me.
But now they’ve gotten old
shafts cracked, barbs gone ragged
Time to molt, grow new ones
if I ever want to fly again.
