w00t. First picture of the New Year.
I've been working on this for a while now, since December. I've done a lot of art in between, but I wanted to finish this before I posted anything else.
I think it's my best digital painting yet...probably because I worked at a huge size @__@; (this final version is about 20% of it's original size.) I'll probably go back to this and add some touch ups, since the magazine doesn't come out until the Spring.
I drew the picture for the cover of my school's literary magazine, called the Spectrum. I started off with two globes, and I just wanted them to eclipse each other. However that seemed boring, and it didn't really illustrate the word spectrum. I went further with it, adding more and more concepts.
The smaller globe that comes from the flower represents the Physical world of the Earth. It's smaller because I feel too many people take the right side of their brain for granted.
The second globe represents the imagination (which is why it's being held by a tree that pops out of a book). A spectrum of ideas run through the imagination, and the imagination can take you anywhere, from mountain tops (that's a moon in the mountain in case you can't tell), to the ocean, or even my school
Most importantly all these ideas are connected and integrated. Although the world of the imagination and the physical world start off separately, they can join each as the continue to grow.
The deity is a watcher over these ideas. As she flies through a void, she protects and guides these ideas underneath her wings. As a watcher she represents any human being with an inner conflict, especially people like us (artists, writers, people more in tune with their creative senses).
We try to balance our artistic senses with the physical, but at times it feels like it'd be easier to just break away from one of them. We know we can't escape the physical world (which is why the tree is connected to her wing), so we tend to go after the holder of the imagination. But it's too precious to break apart, so instead we continue to hold the world (and essentially life) underneath our wings.
OMG!!! I couldn't see this because everytime I clickeded teh rink mah server would crose.... ARGH!!!! You keepu impressing meh every time! Lolz...I just read your comment on the collab. I hadn't seen it because it was at the bottom of your comment. Yesh! We should!
