Mike entered the bathroom’s pulsating ray of light. Allie sat on the floor, in front of the toilet. Her eyelids quivered, a dead black cat lay between her fat little legs. Goo dribbled from bare patches on the dead animal’s flesh.
A dark creature rose on its haunches from behind. It dwarfed the room. Lengths of matted hair dripped from its face. Its green eyes glittered as it towered over Allie’s animated body; its upper talons pierced parts of Allie’s skull. The creature’s oversized ears cascaded down its head. Hair streamed from its tightened lips, their bloodied roots caked onto its fangs.
Mike realized, in a flash. It possessed the female face in the sepia photograph. He stepped back. Stumbled over Sue. The mice scattered, their high-pitched squeaks, a warning to the army of drenched mice that crowded the landing.
“Come to Granny,” the beast said. .........
