Artist's Comments

Flowers and young leaves have been important as a critical part of the diet of our ancestors. Primates evolved the ability to see red and green because it helped to find leaves for food which often start out as red when young then change to green. Colobus guereza is an elegant black and white monkey, possibly the most handsome monkey in Africa, who loves to eat flowers. This male guereza was engulfing bunches of flowers like and alcoolic having his first beer after being restrained for a long period of time. This is an abstract painting because it is more talking about being able to see red and green than copying a black-and-white monkey
