How long have you been creating art?: oh, geez, since i was a wee boy. I attempted my first novel when i was about 9 yrs old, been photographing for about 10 yrs now and creating manips for less that a year

Do artistic skills run in your family?: yes... my mother was a painter and a writer, my brother is a musician and my father is an inventor for aero-space industries

If you could create art like any of the great artists of the past, who would it be and why?: Magritte! I love how simple and sublime his surrealism was. How oft-times you would have to stare at a work before you could even realize what was surreal about it. Also, Magritte's use of color was inspiring!

Besides Dark Art, what other types of art do you like (poetry, prose, sculpture etc...)?: I love classic painting and renderings, abstract sculpture. Cinema.

Does creating art help you release inner emotions or is it just a fun way to pass time... or perhaps the question should be 'Why do you create Art'?: Sometimes, yes. I think a lot of times its just an artistic response of some kind. I've noticed in my work that when my mood is terrible (depressed, mad) that I create rather pleasant art, or " pretty" pictures... and when my mood is good (happy) I create darker pieces. I wonder what a shrink would say?

What is your DevART nickname?:
Thurisaz. It’s the name of a rune, and it has several different meanings such as thorn, wildfire, giant, ogre, troll. I’m into Norse mythology so it came natural to me to choose a name in that context.

How long have you been creating art?:
It depends where you draw the line on what can be called art I guess, but the earliest I can remember is on primary school where I started drawing and my pencil strokes actually started to make figures like I imagined them in my head. I got some attention for my drawings then so I’ve kept doing it until now. But drawing and painting aren’t my main branches of art though I like doing it, I mostly stick to digital art and I started that journey for about 7 years ago.

Do artistic skills run in your family?:
Not in particular, it’s mainly me and my sister who’s really into it. We’ve both studied arts & crafts, but noone else in the family that I can think of has made an effort of having a career or hobby within art.

If you could create art like any of the great artists of the past, who would it be and why?:
I hate to choose only one, but it would be Theodor Kittelsen. He lived up until 1914 so he’s not that much of “the great past”, and he’s probably unfamiliar to most people, but he’s a very famous artist here in Norway. He introduced me and everyone else to the darker side of Norwegian nature, folklore and fairytales, and he created a fantasy that lives on forever in our childhood memories. His images have followed me all the way and I still have them on my wall, I often just sit and look at them and picture myself in the dark, vast forests – surrounded by trolls that want to spirit me off into the mountains and the wood nymph luring me with her song, spellbinding me forever…

I like many kinds of art, but the artworks that draw my attention are usually placed on the darker side of the genre. May it be poetry, music, design, woodcarving, brewery and so on.

Does creating art help you release inner emotions or is it just a fun way to pass time... or perhaps the question should be 'Why do you create Art'?:
I create art to visualize selected thoughts, often to express a certain mood or feeling. It means everything to me to be able to create, thus I find my sanctuary in making art in either way. It’s kind of like making music, it’s therapy for me playing my drums to get rid of aggression, and it works the same way when making art, for example if you’re sad and depressed, you can find a great comfort in visualizing those feeling and watching it turn out to something dark and beautiful.

Who are some other Deviant Artists that you admire?:
I’m relatively new on DeviantArt so I haven’t been able to learn to know all the wonderful artists lurking around. But to mention a very very few: *insaneone, *furiouskitten, *fenriz, ~back, ~aeterea, ~kreestal, everyone here in ~The-Dark-Arts + many many others whos deviations really inspire me and I always try commenting on.
