Obviously, this is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, one of my favorite fairy tales. I composed this in Photoshop with my tablet, incorporating a few elements that I drew and painted on watercolor paper and then scanned in. It was fun to take a break from all the pictures I've been doing lately that use heavy lineart and to just make something that's much more painterly.
Completed in May of 2006.
Prints are now available!
Also, I uploaded a small version of how this picture progressed to my Scraps area: [link] It's not a tutorial, but it will offer some insight for those who ask how I go about making a picture.
