The day wanes as the branches outside my window sag to the ground, burdened with newly fallen snow.  I glance up to see a flock of geese fly slowly across the sky, as silhouettes in a perfect V, and watch as they fade into the horizon.  The last light sparkles through the trees in a mesh of pinpoints, and reflects of off each tiny flake of the snow-covered ground to scatter in every direction possible…

The sky fades from blue to light gray, as the green of the pines turns to black, and the world becomes colorless, but for the lingering tones of the last rays of sun.  Farther off the trees are bare, and contrasted with white, making a criss-crossed pattern of dark against light against the ever-darkening sky.

More geese fly by, in the same direction as the first flock, to same place, maybe, but who could know?

The sun has disappeared, away across the sky to light some other place, far away…  Only the stars remain to twinkle off the snow, and off my weary eyes as I fade into sleep.
