YAY something different from a pot (I hear you all cheering).
I wanted to do something special for my other friend who is a huge InuYasha fan. She made me a beautiful Sesshoumaru doll, a beautiful InuYasha doll (I'll get piccies of him up soon I promise Kira-chan) an InuYasha wallet. To put it bluntly she's awesome!
Well for the last couple of years she's gotten me the Japanese InuYasha calender. And I know she paticularly liked one pic from the 2005 calender. It was a particularly cute picture of Inuyasha and Kagome in a tree and I liked it too because we both want those crazy kids to end up together.
But the picture would have been incredibly difficult to paint on a pot and I'm not that masochisitc! Although painting this tray came close!
Again I have kept with the theme of just using one colour. I don't know why, mebbe because long ago my art teacher in high school pretty much told me I might be good with a plain old pencil, but I sucked when it came to colour. Anyhoo, that and I really loved the first pot I did in various shades of pastel green.
So I went with various purples in this.
I used a wooden tray, pencil and acrylic paints, finished off with a gloss varnish. I sketched the picture onto the tray (that took hours in of itself, its not an identical sketch, I left out some details to save time such as mountains and fields in the background) and then set about colouring it. (I lost count of the number of hours it took, but it took a LOT! I was so glad when it was finally finished.)
I liked the end result enough that I would do it again, but probably not for a long while!
Anyhoo, InuYasha and Kagome are creations of Rumiko Takahashi and the image is based on the Januaray/February page of the 2005 calender.

Sheik: Shit... *notice cam* I did not just burn the bridge the Hero of Time was standing on causing him to fall into a pit of lava and die... No I just um... bye!
Hmm, if someone were to commission one, I'm not sure. I don't think it should be too expensive it would have to at least cover the cost of the tray I'd imagine. Next time I'm at Michaels I'll have a look. Since that is where I got the tray from.
I used a plain unfinished tray from Michaels the craft store.

Love the colors. And did you do this on any kind of tray?
