The first thing I saw was an angel, young yet sad faced. Its cold, gray, downcast eyes were not different from the rest of it, except for a trailing crimson, velvet cloth which it held in its stone-carved arms. It seemed to me a cloak, with golden tassels undone. That, at least, cloth and rope, stirred against the curling breeze. Nothing else stirred, save that, the manipulative wind, and crackling things that fell from the trees and broken things that rose from the ground… and I.
I approached the stone angel longing to see by what powers it had produced a sweet voice, and quickly found myself standing over the body of a girl, strewn upon the ground like so many inconsolable autumnal victims… Red, brown, and golden, with eyes hard as the gravestone above her head.
