An incomplete set of layer styles for The GIMP, including:

:bulletred: Drop Shadow
:bulletred: Inner Shadow
:bulletred: Outer Glow
:bulletred: Inner Glow
:bulletred: Color Overlay
:bulletred: Gradient Overlay
:bulletred: Pattern Overlay
:bulletred: Stroke

To add or update a layer style, simply select the layer style's parent layer - the layer the style will or already belongs to - and call the action. This also works from any of the other layer style layers the parent layer has. The scripts will automaticaly find the correct parent layer and/or layer style layer to update.

To be able to run these scripts, you'll first need to install these two scripts, which function as library routines for the layer style scripts:

:bulletgreen: Select Layer Fill
:bulletgreen: Calculate Offsets

The scripts introduce two limitations:
:bulletblue: You can now only use 9998 layers in one image
:bulletblue: The layer styles get "rasterized" when you duplicate your image

it's a nice start, still need to be able to hook two layers together so that you can easily move the layer and it's style without merging.

i don't mean that you should think about trying to implement linked layers withing scheme, but withing GIMP, as for the GIMP design philosophy, it tends to be outline ideas with scripts and write plug-ins or program features once the methods have been explored, go to the GIMP developers and show them what you've done.

Probably, it's quite old already. Maybe you can try to look for something that does the same on the gimp.org website.

mm, i instaled em and every time i use one i get the same error... e.g. dropshadow:

Error while executing
(script-fu-ls-drop-shadow 1 3 120 5 5 0 75 0 '(0 0 0))
ERROR: Procedural database execution failed:
(gimp_edit_clear 19)

but the last number (in this case the '19' ) changes everytime
