For basic macro photography I'm using a Nikon D7000 DSLR camera with a manual focus Micro-Nikkor 55mm/3.5 lens. When taking pictures of very small objects I'm adding the extension tube Nikon PK-3 (27.5mm), which gives a magnification ratio of 1:1 to the object. At this magnification ratio lighting becomes a very important factor to achieve a sharp picture. Therefore I rely on an on-camera flash with a softbox. I'm using the Nikon Speedlight SB-25 exclusively in manual mode to change the flash output if necessary. I've built a softbox, with plain paper as a diffusor, from cardboard and duct tape to fit
