Within days, Klyte sees how hard their job is. The vigilantes of the kingdom are desperate to reveal the veil of lies, to show the citizens how blind they have been. They want a rebellion, and they'll do anything to get it. Visere calls for a hunting trip, a much-needed break from the job. It soon dissolves into chaos and, for the first time, the Liars are faced with a group of people just as cunning as they are.
Then Klyte realises that his worst fear shouldn't be the vigilantes. It shouldn't be the impending civil war. It should be the person right in front of him, smiling that knowing smile and twirling a knife behind their back.

I am fifteen years old, nearing sixteen, yet I have never seen the stars that scatter in the night sky. The ancient stories describe them as a beautiful sight when you have just had a rough day, but nowadays the sky is nothing but midnight blue bleached over with ash.
Centuries ago, my ancestors got careless. The world was already in a dangerous state, but no one took any action against it. Instead, they ignored it and kept playing with their scientific tools and technology, taking everything from nature but not giving anything back. Problems kept popping out, accumulating over the years, and by the time anyone had realized what they had done, it was too late.
Mutations started popping out, too vicious to kill, escaping from labs and cages. They were the results of too many DNA experiments, and careless ones at that. Monstrosities of creatures thought to only exist in fairy tales and legends now existed, hideous freaks sending shivers down the bravest's backs.

Nanowrimo 2011 - Day TwoDust rose up in clouds around the Jeep as we launched over the dunes. I smiled to North who held the wheel between his fists as if he were going to snap it in half, screaming and laughing as we gained bounced over the fields of sand. These were the days we enjoyed most, those times we spent together not trying to survive, but trying to entertain ourselves. Locke sat beside me in the Jeep, my mistakes from the night before apparently forgotten. We were kings of the desert and princes of sand, what did we need the people of Untown for?Nanowrimo 2011 - Day Two4 years ago in 2011 More Like This
I heard Shea's high pitched giggle from beside me and looked to see her with her arms above her head, bracing herself against the support bars of the Jeep as to not hit them. Out of all of us, she was the shortest, so I laughed. Locke, the tallest, wasn't even bracing himself and when he bounced he missed the bars by mere inches. Shea, seeing this, sheepishly returned her hands to her lap with a laugh.
