New beginningThe spirits had come back. Despite her initial wonder and awe upon hearing of this, she had not been able to stop the bitter disappointment that had gradually come over her, like a poison filling her small frame. She felt so guilty. When the spirits had died, she had not completely understood what had been happening. But she had known, even then, that she hoped they would remain dead. It was a terrible thing to hope for, especially after seeing her mother's reaction to losing her wings; but she hadn't been able to help how she felt, no matter how often she quietly berated herself. After all, when the spirits had, they had taken away the tattoos, and that meant she wouldn't have to ever leave her family. They would not have to be separated, and they would always stay together, her and her mommy and daddy and Tari and Ken and Levian and Dillion and Eli.
